You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm.  Canal Street Bistro is back for their last appearance at the GPS tent this month. Join the Market in this celebration of the freshest seafood you could desire, as they serve up pork carnitas with rice and beans, grilled veggie platter with black beans, black beans and guacamole, horchata, and agua fresca(a refreshing Latin American cinnamon rice drink) to wash it all down......Yum!

And there's more wine!! Come to Tastings at the Track and and celebrate Christmas in July. The reception-style tasting will feature more than 75 French Champagnes and sparkling wines from Italy, the United States and Spain.  Top brands that will be sampled include Dom Perignon, Taittinger, Perrier Jouet, Mumm, Moet & Chandon, Ruinart and many more!! Held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the clubhouse at Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots (1751 Gentilly Blvd.), the spirited sampling is sponsored by Dorignac's. Wine experts are on hand to answer all of your wine questions, and there will be gourmet cheeses to compliment the wines. Cost to attend is $25 per person. Go hang out at City Park this evening and enjoy music from Washboard Rodeo for the Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series! What could be better in the mid summer than good ole Cowboy Swing music? Western Swing developed when practitioners melded fiddles and steel guitars to create their own music inspired by swing, a sort of "Cowboy Jazz". Add a washboard and you have the Washboard Rodeo! Gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children (it was $3 last year :)

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden presents Mia Borders  Showcasing her distinctive voice, Mia Borders's shows are an energetic blend of funk, soul and rock! Tonight the O BAR's specialty drink is the O Sangria: Say O-lé to this refreshing sangria consisting of white wines, fresh fruit juices and fresh fruit!  And....my hubby Bill deTurk will be doing the interview today - so you definitely don't want to miss it!

Friday w/Second Line for Uncle Lionel and Lots of Music!

Happy Friday!

Celebrate the life of Uncle Lionel this afternoon with a Second Line to remember and honor his memory and spirit! The second line will start at Tuba Fats Square on the corner of St. Philip and N. Robertson in the Treme, and end at Sweet Lorraine's Jazz Club at 1931 St. Claude. See the route belwo. (We are also Asking All Second Line Clubs to Dress out)


Following the Second Line, there is a benefit at Sweet Lorraine's. Taking the stage to honor the legend will be trumpeters Kermit Ruffins and Kid Merv, singer Michael Baptiste, NOLA R&B mainstay Deacon John, singer Danon Smith and Jazz violinist Michael Ward. The show starts at 7 p.m.

A memorial fund has been set up for Uncle Lionel Batiste at Liberty Bank and Trust. Donations can be made to the fund by going to any branch. If you have any questions please contact Glenda McKinley at 504-915-1552.

Wine Tastings!

Come celebrate the Fourth of July with the sounds of Swingaroux as they perform the Big Band sound that was so popular in America during and after World War 2. Come get "In The Mood" with the music of Swingaroux! Gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children (it was $3 last year :)

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden presents Andre Bohren - A Classical Night  A change of pace for the drummer of rock band Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, Andre Bohren will share his talent on the piano with a number of classical pieces, accompanied by fellow Dirty Note Harry Hardin on violin! Tonight the O BAR's specialty drink is O Sangria: Say O-lé to this refreshing sangria consisting of white wines, fresh fruit juices and fresh fruit.

After the "O" show - come on down to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) and check out Andre's dad - Spencer Bohren and the Whippersnappers at 8:00 pm.  It's a double dose of the Bohren family!  And be sure to come hungry for some yummy pizza and Italiano favorites!

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm.  Chef Guillermo Peters of Canal Street Bistro makes his debut under the Green Plate Special tent. Can’t wait to try his Cuban and Caprese sandwiches with sides of German potato salad, quinoa salad and horchata to wash it down. Stop by the Tuesday market and help welcome Chef Guillermo to the market, and pick up lunch while you’re there.....Yum!

The concerts will be today and tomorrow at 7:00 pm at the St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square.  What a great way to start off your holiday!

Tonight head on down to Lafreniere Park (3000 Downs Blvd.) for Uncle Sam Jam 2012 at 5:00 pm. The Annual Family Day with Music & Fireworks Display. The Jam features food & beverage concessions, music, and fireworks display. Performance by Ghost Town (5-7pm); the New Orleans Concert Band (7-9pm); FIREWORKS AT 9 PM; and The Yat Pack (9:15-11:00 pm). FREE ADMISSION! Don't forget your blanket or lawn chairs AND enjoy the evening under the stars!

Good Music Tonight!

And there's a great evening on the Avenue, because it's another lovely southern night for porch sitting and music over at the The Columns (3811 St. Charles Ave.) from 8:00 to 11:00 pm...Have a fancy cocktail and listen to the music of John Rankin!

Head on over to Mid-City and to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal)!  Get the holiday and America's birthday started up with a big band tonight with a performance by Greezy Joe, up and coming Country Super Star - See ya'll out there on the dance floor!!

There's some fun on Frenchmen tonight too over at d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen) with the Treme Brass Band at 9:00 pm - there's a $5 cover, but that's practically free!

Right down the street the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) has a triple header with no cover - Cindy Chen 4:00 pm, Jayna Morgan's Band at 6:00 pm, and top off the evening with Smokin' Time Jazz Club at 10:00 pm!

End your night over at the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street...with  the Grammy Award winning REBIRTH Brass Band they come on around 10:30ish - there's a cover, but you'll be glad you paid and stayed up late!!

Patriotic Monday Music and Lots of Fun 'Round Town!

Monday Night Music

Start celebarting the 4th a little early with some patriotic music in a most beautiful setting.  The Marine and Navy Band’s from New Orleans will be performing two joint FREE concerts to celebrate Independence Day. The concerts will be today and tomorrow at 7:00 pm at the St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square.  What a great way to start off your holiday!

Catch some Kermit Ruffins early in the evening at his new club "Kermit's Treme Speakeasy Restaurant" (1535 Basin St.) - Kermit and the BBQ Swingers will be performing at 6:00 pm - so come on by for some great music and of course some Monday night red beans!!

Head on over to The Irish House (1432 St. Charles) for a lovely pint of your favorite brew and a Traditional Irish Music Session at 7:00 pm!

And while your Uptown - Enjoy some cocktail porch sippin' over at the Columns Hotel (3811 St. Charles)....Tonight David Doucet of Beausoleil fame performs at 8:00 pm tonight!

There's fun in Mid-City over at the Banks Street Bar (4401 Banks) come by for The N'awlins Johnnys at 10:00 pm and don't forget about the FREE red beans tonight!

Satisfy your hunger for great food and music over at Three Muses (536 Frenchmen)...Tonight at 7:00 pm enjoy the sultry sounds of Kristin Diable - don't miss the show!

Be sure to make a stop by the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) early for this great line-up of music...Sarah McCoy at 4:00 pm, Dominick Grillo and The Frenchmen Street All Stars at 6:00 pm and be sure to stay on for the Jazz Vipers at 10:00 pm!
