Gleason Gras!

Former Saint and veritable hero Steve Gleason loves music, and the annual Gleason Gras features performances by Galactic, Anders Osborne, John Micheal Rouchell and other local rockers.  Come on down to Champions Square for an evening of great music and food! Admission for the event benefiting the Louisiana Hospitality Foundation’s ALS awareness efforts and the Gleason Family Trust is free, but VIP tickets are available here!

Head on over to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) in the heart of Mid-City for an amazing show with Paul Sanchez and Friends including Arséne DeLay, Antoine Reynaldo Diel singing the songs and John Herbert playing harmonica on the songs of Paul Sanchez at 8:00 pm! It's the 2nd Annual Tails & Ales presented by Abita Beer! This tasting will feature more than 100 beers from around the world and will be held in the Club House at the New Orleans Fair Grounds over looking the paddock and the track! Festival season ain't over yet!  We got two big events in the Quarter this weekend! It's Cajun - Zydeco Fest at the The Old U.S. Mint (400 Esplanade) - Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 am to 7:00 pm - Admission is free!

COOL! INTERVIEW STAGE
The National Park Service and the Louisiana State Museum are providing access to the beautiful new theater on the Third Floor of the Old U.S. Mint - where the Jazz and Heritage folks will present interviews with many of the performers. Audience members will hear first-hand how our artists learned their craft and carry on our culture. And it'll be a great place to get out of the heat and enjoy some cool air before heading back out for more dancing, eating and shopping. Interviews will be from noon to 5 p.m. both days of the festival.

Swing by Mickey Markey Park for the start of the The Fourth Annual World Naked Bike Ride in New Orleans will take place today. The ride will start at 5:00pm from Mickey Markey Park (Piety and Royal Street)The riders will travel through the French Quarter passing Jackson Square and return to the park by way of Bourbon St. There will be an after party at the Country Club on Louisa St. Ride naked!

Party with Mr. Okra tonight at BJ's Lounge (4301 Burgundy St.). It's traveling produce man, Mr. Okra's, 70th birthday and the fun begins at 6:00 pm with music by Guitar Slim and delicious food from Sergio and family! Crafters Paradise: Selections from the Louisiana Crafts Guild
The Arts Council of New Orleans showcases some of the finest crafts persons from Louisiana in a group show currently on display in the Arts Council's Gallery ( 935 Gravier St.)

Greek Steppers, Mardi Gras Indians and a special second line will all be a part of the 10th Anniversary celebration!  Visitors will enjoy authentic soul food prepared by local restaurants and caterers, and in addition to our exciting collection of exotic animals, kids will enjoy hands on activities at the Kid's Cultural tent. Visitors of all ages can receive free wellness information from local health organizations. Visitors can also purchase a special commemorative 10th Anniversary Soul Fest tee shirt!

Music and Horses!

Starlight Racing at the New Orleans Fairgrounds (1751 Gentilly Blvd.) - Groove on down to the sounds of the Groovy 7 and DJ Live! Gates open at 4:00 pm and the first post is at 5 p.m. The live bands take to the Clubhouse stage at 7 p.m., while the DJs in the Miller Lite Beer Garden spin nonstop until after the last race, about 9 p.m.
Admission and Parking:
*General Admission to Fair Grounds for Starlight Racing is $5.
*Admission to the Clubhouse or the Miller Lite Beer Garden is an additional $10.

Movies!

If you haven't seen all the Oscar nominated films head on over to the AMC Theaters Best Picture Showcase at the Elmwood Theatre in Harahan. The theatre is having a marathon screening of all nine films nominated this year! The movies crank up at 10:00 am on Saturday and tickets are $40.00.

Art!

Michalopoulos Gallery Opening (617 Bienville) Saturday, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. In celebration of "HEART SONG", the original James Michalopoulos painting used for the Official 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival poster. "Heart Song" captures Aaron Neville's two great inspirations -- New Orleans and spirituality - in this uplifting masterpiece. The exhibit will also feature studies and paintings used to create Michalopoulos' other Jazz Festival posters. James Michalopoulos will be in attendance.

A Ball!

2nd Annual Mad Scientist Ball: "Artwork, Absinthe & Alchemy" Collective World Art Community - Saturday from 8:00 until Midnight at The Big Top (1638 Clio Street). The event kicks off with a special mixology demonstration by one of New Orleans' very talented spirit handlers who will guide a group of aspiring alchemists as they create and sample a variety of specialty cocktails using chemistry sets provided by Collective World. Bring your own lab coat and don't forget your brass goggles!
*Entertainment will be provided by our DJ, Bats in the Belfry and feature live performances by Sundog along with a costume contest for the best green fairy, the maddest scientist and the sexiest lab mouse. There will be a raffle and a silent auction with many great pieces of artwork, crafts, beautiful jewelry, handmade fashion accessories, dining certificates, hotels, gift cards, tickets for events and attractions and many other fabulous items contributed by artists and local businesses.
*The proceeds from this event will benefit our project of bringing Giants in the City to the New Orleans Botanical Garden this fall.

Start celebrating St. Patrick's Day a little early with The Downtown Irish Club Practice Parade!! Oscar Viewing Parties!!

Oscar Experience New Orleans - The Theatres at Canal Place. The American Red Cross of Southeast Louisiana teams with The Theater and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences to host Oscar Experience New Orleans at 6:30 pm. The City's only officially sanctioned Oscar viewing party. Since it's official you'll have to shell out the big bucks though (but hey, it's going to charity - right!) Zebras and Ostriches - oh my!!  Things just keep getting wilder at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, where live zebras will compete in an exhibition race on Saturday!! The first zebra race ever in the South will be paired with the return of ostrich and mascot racing. First post for the twilight Thoroughbred program will be 2 p.m., with mascots, ostriches and zebras scheduled to race under the lights in the evening hours, after 6 p.m.
General Admission will be $10 at the door. Clubhouse and Miller Time Beer Garden admission will be $15. Children 12 and under will be admitted free. The resort spa for dogs is hosting a benefit for the nonprofit Dag's House, which provides housing and rehabilitation for special needs dogs, with live music, food and cocktails.
