Veggies, Margarita and a Saint!!

Happy Tuesday Everybody,

Lots of good stuff going on today!!

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm and pick up some fresh seafood, veggies and you can even get some lunch!  Beaucoup Juice Chef Dylan Williams and his team will keep you cool all month long with fresh juice sno-balls made with local fruit. Other cool items on the menu this week include vegan apple-currant-banana bread, vichyssoise, Greek blackened shrimp wrap or salad with cucumbers, Creole tomatoes, local Feta, greens and Greek vinaigrette, orzo salad with olives, Creole tomato, yellow bell pepper & basil, and acai bowls ....now that sounds delicious!

This evening there's lot of fun stuff going on....

Get your happy hour going at Le Booze (300 Bourbon Street) this evening from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm for Happy Hour Toasting with Margarita.....cool off with some refreshing cocktails with Margarita and her co-host one of our favorite Saints - Mike McKenzie!!!

For more music fun....come on down to Chickie Wah Wah on Canal Street to enjoy the amazing John Mooney!!  Music starts about 8:00 pm, but come early to get a good seat.

You can also head on over to Bullet's Sports Bar (2441 AP Tureaud) at about 8:30ish and get down to the sounds of Kermit Ruffins and the BBQ Swingers...there's really no better place to spend your Tuesday night and have a few drinks to celebrate!

If you're lookin' for some Rockin' and Bowlin' and some good food too...Have some dinner over at Ye Olde College Inn..where you'll get some yummy food and a discounted ticket to Rock 'N Bowl...right next door!!  It's the J.J. Mugler Band tonight...and the show gets kickin' about 8:30 pm.

You need to go by the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street for the early show.  Cluck! Nite featuring Three Piece Spicy + Creole Cookin' ...and make sure you stay up late for the REBIRTH!!  You'll be glad did!

Celebrate NOLA!

Happy Monday Everybody!

I don't know about you, but after all the Katrina events this weekend I need a little music, food, fun....and celebrate the great City we are lucky enough to live in....So, let's get to it!

It's another HOT Monday, but there's a great breeze from the river today...so it's a good night to take a stroll along the River Road levee, and while you're there be sure to stop at the River Shack Tavern at 7:00 pm for some really GOOD red beans and rice, and the cool sounds of Amanda Walker.

You can get your evening started off right at Chickie Wah Wah on Canal....they have amazing singer/songwriter Spencer Bohren for an early show at 7:00 pm...and I'm sure there's gonna be some yummy food too!!

There's a fun double header over at Maison (508 Frenchmen)...You got Jayna Morgan & The Sazerac Sunrise Jazz Band at 7:00 pm, and the Monday Super Jam hosted by Gene Harding featuring Rue Fiya at 10:00 pm...now this sounds like a fun way to spend your evening!!

Keep out the heat and spend some time on the Avenue at The Columns....There's gonna be David Doucet from BeauSoleil fame, and while you're enjoying the sounds have a refreshing adult beverage and  this will surely start your evening off right!

Stick around Mid-City and go on over to the Banks Street Bar & Grill for the N'Awlins Johnnys at 9:00 pm and some free red beans and rice for your Monday night!

BJ's Lounge (4301 Burgundy) has a special show tonight at 9:00 pm with King James and the Special Man...If you've never headed down to BJ's you gotta do it...and if they're serving those yummy burritos you have to get one...they are yummy!!!!

If you're lookin' for some bluegrass music tonight you don't have to go too far to find it....Check out the Hi Ho Lounge on St. Claude and the Bluegrass Pickin' Party at 8:00 pm...there's no cover and FREE red beans at this show too!

Remembering that B**** Katrina

Happy Saturday Everybody,

It looks like it's going to be a damp Saturday, so make sure to confirm your outdoor events before you head on down!

Let's see what's happenin' today!!

It's the Saturday Art Market at Palmer Park....The monthly open air festival of creativity hosted by the Arts Council of New Orleans featuring local artists, live music, and good food is today from 10:00 to 4:00 p.m..  In the Kids Tent at 10:30 am- Heal 2 Toe second-line dance class with Dancing Man 504; afterwards the Craft Project of the Day will be Second-Line Fans!  Vodou priestess Sallie Ann Glassman will have a ceremony blessing New Orleans as it continues to recover after Hurricane Katrina at noon in the Music Tent.  In the Music Tent, Eve's Lucky Planet will perform world music at 1:00 pm, then reggae by The Revealers at 2:30 pm.

Drink some beer for a good cause!!!  RARE BEER AUCTION and BEER TASTING - Benefiting the GULF RELIEF FOUNDATION......The event starts up at 1:00 pm at the Avenue Pub (1732 St. Charles).....Rare and extraordinary beers create the basis for this benefit to help fishers and other families suffering financially due to the BP spill, with ALL proceeds donated to Gulf Relief Foundation (the folks who orchestrated the Gulf Aid concert).   Admission is only $35 which includes 4 beer tickets and access to very special beers on tap especially for this event.  Cash or checks preferred for admission and auction. Celebrate Rebuilding Together with the Fifty for Five Community Celebration at Lafayette Square (500 St. Charles) from 2:00 to 8:00 pm...It's a party celebrating the rebuilding in Gentilly with music from Germaine Bazzle, Treme Brass Band, and The World Classic Rockers, food and fun!!!

In honor of the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) hosts a weekend of events, all of which are FREE and open to the public.

American photographer Richard Misrach will premiere an exhibition: UNTITLED [New
Orleans and the Gulf Coast, 2005]: Photographs by Richard Misrach. The exhibition will be open to the public starting on Saturday, August 28, at 10 a.m. in NOMA's first floor Bay Gallery. Saturday evening is a members-only reception with the artist. The exhibition will be on display until October 24, 2010.

HBO's Grammy-nominated series Treme will screen in the Stern Auditorium on Saturday and Sunday.

Don't forget it's the Mid-Summer Mardi Gras with the Krewe of Oak.....the crowd meets up about 8:00 pm on Oak Street right in front of the Maple Leaf Bar.....This parade is more of a participant event, not really a spectator sport. Each year the parade is larger and more outrageous and is lots of FUN!  Be sure to wear a cool costume!!!  There's a post-party at the Maple Leaf afterwards, but it's invite only...so make other after parade fun plans by checking out the WWOZ livewire below.

After the parade you should head over to THE 5th ANNUAL KATRINA ARTISTICALLY REVISITED (on the 5th Anniversary Eve of Katrina) about midnight at the Canal Place Theatre (333 Canal).....The lobby opens at 10:30 pm and about midnight the Theartre will open up 11:30 pm.

The Katrina Artistically Revisited special commemorative multimedia events are annually produced by Patty Lee and Armand St. Martin and have been held every Anniversary Eve of Katrina, since Katrina, at the Theatres at Canal Place, "to remember all those we lost and to honor those who survived."  Each year this special event is personally dedicated, by the producers, in memory of "Mom" Nona Lee, 88 1/2, and William "Uncle Bill" Ulmer, 99 - - neither survived the first year of Katrina's aftermath.
The meaningful date and time for Katrina Artistically Revisited was purposefully created to begin every August 28th before midnight "when our lives were normal" and to end after midnight on August 29th, "when our lives were changed forever." - P.Lee

**In the Theatre Lobby from  10:30 pm - 11:30 pm there will be a Katrina photo display, and a chance to meet the artist, award-winning staff photographer at the Louisiana State Museum, Mark Sindler; a book display of published Katrina books, offered for sale by the manager of Garden District Books, Amy Loewy; oral story sharing; food and drinks available for purchase at the lobby cafe, Gusto Restaurant, by Chef Adolfo Garcia.

**In the Theatre, 11:30 pm - 12:45 pm....the event begins with a brief introduction by Armand St. Martin; music and original Katrina songs performed solo, by award-winning zydeco and blues recording artist, Bruce "Sunpie" Barnes; by legendary rockabilly Hall of Fame recipient and Louisiana troubadour with his official Katrina Recovery song, Jay Chevalier; by jazz orchestra leader, Orange Kellin; and by recording artist, New Orleans roots rock 'n roll pianoman and entertainer, Armand St. Martin; oral stories from Gisela Chevalierand several first responders and audience; a bxw short film by New Orleans photographer Dennis Couvillion, titled, Stillness. . . the Aftermath of Katrina; commercial short trailer for the documentary, "Katrina's Children" produced by Richard Colton and Babs Johnson; photo-slides by the New Orleans Kids Camera Project, produced by Joanna Rosenthal and Ariya Martin, with live music; backdrop photos on screen by New Orleans photographers Donn Young (Port of New Orleans photographer), Mark Sindler (Louisiana State Museum photographer), and Patty Lee (creator/producer of Katrina Artistically Revisited).  As always, entrance is Free to the public (over the age of 18 admitted only)

Cocktails, Levees and Music!!

Good Morning and Happy Thursday,

It's another fun Thursday at Twist Cocktails (628 St. Charles Ave - part of Mike's on the Avenue) with "Top Dog" a dog-friendly event going on this evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.!  Celebrity bartending teams will vie for the title of "Top Dog"....This week’s celebrity bartenders are Curt Sprang of ABC 26 TV and Lorin Gaudin, “The Food Goddess.”  The bartending duo that rings up the most sales during their two-hour bartending gig will be crowned "Top Dogs".   Presented by Szimblich Vodka, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Southern Animal Foundation. The event is dog-friendly, so guests are invited to bring their pooches along to join in the fun! 

Don't miss out on the weekly wine tasting at Cork and Bottle about 5:00 pm in Mid-City......and be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more!

You should also check out The Ogden Southern Museum of Art concert this Thursday....better known as Ogden after Hours.   Music starts up at 6:00 pm with the Lower Ninth Ward Revue featuring Al "Carnival Time" Johnson & Guitar Lightnin' Lee!!!   So come on down for some music, culture, fun...and the "O" bar will be serving some Jack & Ginger specialty cocktails!! (remember if you get down there early - go grab a cocktail at the Circle Bar on Lee's Circle...one of the best happy hours in town!)

You can also go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with the Motown sounds of the New Orleans Mystics! The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children. 

Everyone is encouraged to come out for the Levees.org 5th Annual Event to observe the Worst Civil Engineering Disaster in U.S. History at Touro Synagogue (4238 St. Charles Ave).   Speakers will include Sandy Rosenthal, founder and guiding force behind Levees.org, and team leader Melissa Smith.   There will be cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and a presentation from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m....and musical entertainment by the traditional jazz band Some Like It Hot.   THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THIS EVENT, but seating is limited so please reserve your seat by clicking the above link.

A Saintsational Evening for Books and Tapas!!

Hey Everybody,

A little late this Wednesday, but have a fun one!

Do you want to meet some Saintsations??  Of course you do...and today is the day!!  The Royal Sonesta Hotel will host the official unveiling of the Saintsations 2011 Swimsuit Calendar......you are invited to join the Saintsations in a traditional Second-Line parade led by the Storyville Stompers Brass Band.  Cheer on the ladies as they depart the Royal Sonesta Hotel promptly at 6:00 pm, and join in the fun as they roll through the French Quarter with Saints' mascots Gumbo and Sir Saint!!

It's another Wednesday on the Point from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and of course, admission is FREE..Take the ferry right over to the concert tonight and head to the Algiers Ferry Dock (200 Morgan) for MyNameIsJohnMichael with Mykia Jovan Duo for Back to School fun!  Click the above link for complete concert series info!

And it's the Riverbend Tapas Crawl from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.   Along with Barcelona Tapas, participating restaurants include Brigtsen's Restaurant (723 Dante St.), Dante's Kitchen (736 Dante St.), Hana (8116 Hampson St.), and Jazmine Cafe (614 S. Carrolton), all of which are located within two blocks of each other.  For the Crawl, you'll find the same format at each stop: Order at the bar, or at another specified area, hand over $5 and you get a tapa-sized dish...plus a short glass of wine. Bring cash to keep it simple...There's no itinerary, so diners are encouraged to wander from place to place...Hoping this inaugural event will be the start to tapas tradition in NOLA!!

Tonight is the YLC's One Book's 2010 Kickoff Event: A Night with Louis! from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at the McKenna Museum of African American Art (2003 Carondelet)....The YLC presents the kickoff for the Sixth Annual One Book One New Orleans campaign for literacy and community!  There will be many spectacular New Orleans eateries showcased, including FREE FOOD from:  Jacques-Imo's, Muriel's, Dooky Chase, Mother's, Langenstein's, Leidenheimer's Breads, Angelo Brocato's, The Kupcake Factory and more!   Plus free wine and beer provided by: Abita Beer and - Elio's Wine Warehouse!!
And Enterntainment with performances by YLC's Project Prodigy and special guest Glen David Andrews!  So come on down for raffles,  photography by Dear New Orleans, with the official book selection available for sale by Octavia Books!  And The New Orleans Public Library will be on-site to sign individuals up for library cards and the Literacy Alliance of Greater New Orleans will also be present.  IMPORTANT: *PLEASE* bring a book to take your pic with and/or donate to NOPL for a One Book collection that will be housed at the library.

Family Fun, Books and Pampered Ladies!!

Happy Sunday Everybody!!


It's time again for the best Summer County Fair in a City--the Ogden Family Fair! And it's FREE!!!
This year, the Ogden is celebrating our amazing Gulf of Mexico and the state's marshes and bayous " our theme is "A Coastal Celebration."  This event is for all ages!  Arts and crafts include: hobby sea horses (back by popular demand!), Gulf creature creations, sea turtle sculptures, art scavenger hunt, Wash tub fishing and more!!!!
Live entertainment too:

Champions Square - Geaux Saints!!

Champions Square will open for New Orleans Saints' first exhibition game at the Superdome today!! There's gonna be food fun and music, so go on down and check it out!!

And I can guess what everybody's going to be doing between 7:00 pm and 10:30...but head on down to Twist Cocktails (628 St. Charles) early to watch the game and stay on for the Back to School Drive hosted by PlayNOLA, Time2PlayNO and the Deuce McAlister's Catch 22 Foundation with cocktails, music, games and food, from 9:00 pm to 2:00 am to collect school supplies for the children of New Orleans....Please bring any type of school item to donate and admission is $10 online at www.time2PlayNO.com or $15 at the door.

Dogs, Museums and Happy Hours!

Good Morning and Happy Thursday,

It's another fun Thursday at Twist Cocktails (628 St. Charles Ave - part of Mike's on the Avenue) with "Top Dog" a dog-friendly event going on this evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.!  Celebrity bartending teams will vie for the title of "Top Dog"...tonight's team is Maria Muro and John Sartori! The bartending duo that rings up the most sales during their two-hour bartending gig will be crowned "Top Dogs".   Presented by Szimblich Vodka, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Southern Animal Foundation. The event is dog-friendly, so guests are invited to bring their pooches along to join in the fun! 

Don't miss out on the weekly wine tasting at Cork and Bottle about 5:00 pm in Mid-City......and be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more!

You should also check out The Ogden Southern Museum of Art concert this Thursday....better known as Ogden after Hours.   Music starts up at 6:00 pm with the sounds of Texas Johnny Brown who is truly one of the legendary figures of the American blues scene.  So come on down for some music, culture, fun...and the "O" bar will be serving some Jack & Ginger specialty cocktails!! Groovin' Tuesday Music!

Happy Tuesday Everybody,

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm and pick up some fresh seafood, veggies and you can even get some lunch!  Beaucoup Juice Chef Dylan Williams and his team will keep you cool all month long with fresh juice snoballs made with local fruit. Other cool items on the menu this week include vegan apple-currant-banana bread, vichyssoise, Greek blackened shrimp wrap or salad with cucumbers, Creole tomatoes, local Feta, greens and Greek vinaigrette, orzo salad with olives, Creole tomato, yellow bell pepper & basil, and acai bowls ....now that sounds delicious!

This evening there's lot of fun stuff going on....

If you're looking for an early show this evening....head on over to the Circle Bar (Lee's Circle) for The Tom Paines at 6:00 pm and stay on for The Nightmare River Band at 10:00 pm...not sure if they're any relation to the Little River Band...

New Orleans on a Monday!!

Happy Monday Everybody!

Here are some great ways to stay cool this Monday evening!

It's another HOT Monday, but there's a great breeze from the river today...so it's a good night to take a stroll along the River Road levee, and while you're there be sure to stop at the River Shack Tavern at 7:00 pm for some really GOOD red beans and rice, and the cool sounds of Amanda Walker.

You can get your evening started off right at Chickie Wah Wah on Canal....they have amazing singer/songwriter Andrew Duhon for an early show at 7:00 pm...and I'm sure there's gonna be some yummy food too!!

There's a fun double header over at Maison (508 Frenchmen)...You got Jayna Morgan & The Sazerac Sunrise Jazz Band at 7:00 pm, and the Monday Super Jam hosted by Gene Harding featuring Rue Fiya at 10:00 pm...now this sounds like a fun way to spend your evening!!

Keep out the heat and spend some time on the Avenue at The Columns....There's gonna be David Doucet from BeauSoleil fame, and while you're enjoying the sounds have a refreshing adult beverage and  this will surely start your evening off right!

Stick around Mid-City and go on over to the Banks Street Bar & Grill for the N'Awlins Johnnys at 9:00 pm and some free red beans and rice for your Monday night!

BJ's Lounge (4301 Burgundy) has a special show tonight at 9:00 pm with King James and the Special Man...If you've never headed down to BJ's you gotta do it...and if they're serving those yummy burritos you have to get one...they are yummy!!!!

If you're lookin' for some bluegrass music tonight you don't have to go too far to find it....Check out the Hi Ho Lounge on St. Claude and the Bluegrass Pickin' Party at 8:00 pm...there's no cover and FREE red beans at this show too!

Red Dresses and Dirty Linen!!!!

Good Morning Everybody,

If you're already not out at the Red Dress Run...then you must know it's Dirty Linen Night, and I'm saving myself up for this event!!!

But if you've got yourself a red dress you probably already know the lowdown...but for you Red Dress newbies, here's what's going on!!

OFFICIAL RED DRESS RUN ROUTE from the NOPD

"This year's annual Red Dress Run which is set for Saturday at Noon.

The run shall begin at Washington Square (located at Royal and Frenchmen) then proceed on Royal toward Esplanade Ave then to Bourbon St. The run shall then be contained from the 200-700 blocks of Bourbon until 2pm at which time they will head down Bourbon to Esplanade then onto Dauphine. The run shall then continue on Dauphine back to Washington Square for dispersal."

And here's the schedule for the day:

9:00am Gates open
9:00-11:30am Registration
10:30-11:30 Snack
9:30-11:30 Blackened Blues Band
12:00-2:00 Run
2:00-3:00 DJ
3:00-6:00 Boogie Men
3:30-5:30 Dinner served. Food service will end promptly at 5:30 PM.
6:30 THE END!!!

Then it's DIRTY LINEN NIGHT!!

Join the celebration on Royal Street from the 200 block of Royal to the 1000 block ending at Ursulines Street, from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. Dirty Linen Night will feature more than 60 galleries and shops and an exclusive shopping experience. Most galleries will serve cool refreshments, and special surprises between!

Dirty Linen Night is free and open to the public; the shops will welcome visitors into their businesses and offer a chance to meet the artists and owners. This has become a favorite summer event for both locals and visitors alike. Dirty Linen Night began 9 years ago as a grassroots effort to bring visitors to this unique strip of Royal Street, and to this day it remains a free event that truly belongs to the Artists.

If you're already down on Royal be sure to take a slight detour over to Conti Street to Broussard's Restaurant (just 2 short blocks from Royal) for some eating, drinking and carrying on! The spacious courtyard will feature the the sounds of James Andrews and the Crescent City All Stars, in addition to a display of the inspired works of New Orleans' top artists. Settle into the comfortable bar & lounge where you can beat the heat and enjoy complimentary passed specialties while sipping on the Bacardi sponsored Mojito!!!

If you don't end up on Frenchmen after Dirty Linen here are a few fun things going on around the City.

It's the Banks Street Bar's (4401 Banks) Luau Beach Party starting up at 900 pm with music by Hawaii 504....Tropical drink specials, FREE food on the grill (pineapple, anyone?), leis, limbo and ladies (and maybe men) in grass skirts!!! Wear your sarongs and flip-flops or your best Hawaiian attire!

And it's the big Clockwork Elvis 10th Anniversary Party over at the Kingpin (1307 Lyons)...You don't want to miss this one, it should be a blast!!

Claiborne) for the Big Bash tonight at 7:00 pm...There gonna be Guitar Lightning Lee, 3 G Production Band, Kahrizma Band and Armand St. Martin...and to top it off your first drink free and free food...there's just the very small donation of $10.00 donation at the gate!  More surprise musicians will be there also so come out and show your support..V.I.P cards will be given to the first 30 people who enter the gate...so get their early and stay late for Armand St. Martin 'round midnight!!!

It's Madden Gras!!

Happy Madden Gras Monday!!

LAUNCH OF MADDEN NFL 11 with "N'AWLINS" STYLE MADDEN GRAS CELEBRATION at Ernst Cafe (600 South Peters) today from 11:00 am 'til midnight!!

To mark one of the most anticipated events of the year, the launch of Madden NFL 11, EA SPORTS will be celebrating the occasion with a Mardi Gras-themed event today!! Madden Gras will feature a full day of musical guests, on-site Madden NFL 11 tournaments, appearances by former New Orleans Saints and members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Satchmo Sunday and Seafood!!

Good Morning Everybody,

Feeling a bit slow today, but don't let last night's drinking prevent you from having a good time today!!

It's the last day of Satchmo Summerfest, so you have to down to the Quarter for all the festivities, fun and music!!

Here's the lowdown....

10:00 a.m. - Noon Jazz Mass at St. Augustine Church (1210 Governor Nicholls Street) Free and open to the public St. Augustine Church (the church of Sidney Bechet) in the historic Treme neighborhood. Celebrate a
unique Sunday morning musical ministry with the Treme Brass Band, along with the St. Augustine Church Choir. Followed by a second-line parade (10-15 blocks) from the church to the Satchmo SummerFest site at the Louisiana State Museum's Old U.S. Mint

At noon, immediately following mass, join us for the 'Satchmo Salute' Second Line Parade, featuring Grand Marshall Boe Monkey Red, Grand Marshall Jenn Jones, Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Million dollar Baby Dolls, Baby Boyz Brass Band, Dumaine Street Gang Social Aid and Pleasure Club, The Sudan Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Undefeated Divas Social Aid and Pleasure Club, TBC (To Be Continued) Brass Band, and the The Young Ones Brass Band, presented by Rhodes Funeral Home. This very special second line parade visits Louis Armstrong Park, and then proceeds to Satchmo SummerFest at the Louisiana State Museum's Old U.S. Mint (approximately 15 blocks). The Jazz Mass is held at historic St. Augustine Church in the Treme neighborhood, known for its authentic cultural and musical history. Treme includes Congo Square within Armstrong Park, where slaves gathered on Sundays to worship, sing and dance. This weekly gathering played a significant role in the evolution of jazz.

And there's also some great art on Magazine Street this evening...check out the opening of the Sibley Gallery's (3427 Magazine) new sculpture garden from 4:00 to 8:00 pm....and Poet's Gallery (3113 Magazine)  from 6:00 to 10:00 is having an amazing exhibition showing the works of Jason Hawkins, Christopher Kirsch, Kristin Littwin Gile, Billy Corcoran and  Christopher Morrison-Slave.

Satchmo Struttin' and Mo'!!

Happy Friday and TGIF!!

There is so  much going on this weekend....So, where to get started??

First there's a very important event going on tonight at Zeitgeist (1618 Oretha Catle Haley) at 9:30 pm it's the Wenny Kelly Memorial Benefit Concert and this event is for a very good cause...There's gonna be performances by Johnny J. and the Hitmen, Egg Yolk Jubilee, Hawaii 504 plus a silent auction, food from area chefs and a jam session in Wenny’s honor.  Wenny Kelly was an area musician, Zeitgeist volunteer.  He suffered a massive stroke on June 26 as he was preparing to watch the U.S. vs. Ghana in the World Cup. After a seven hour emergency surgery and over a week in the hospital, he died on July 4, just three days shy of his 49th Birthday.  Unfortunately Wenny had no health insurance and his family needs your help.  Suggested donation is $10...come on down and show your support!!  For more info and how you can help click on the above link.

Art, Music, Free Crabs and Fancy Dinners!

It's a big show at the Ogden this evening!! The Ogden Southern Museum of Art better known as Ogden after Hours starts up at 6:00 pm with Singer-songwriter Mary McBride.  So come on down for some music, culture, fun and the "O" bar will be serving this month's cocktail the "Jack and Ginger"!! (remember if you get down there early - go grab a cocktail at the Circle Bar on Lee's Circle...one of the best happy hours in town!)

You can also go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with Bayou Deville! The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

Come on down this evening to the Maison Frenchmen on Frenchmen Street (of course) tonight at 7:00 pm for the Free Boiled Crab Night with Influencia de Jazz!  Bar patrons can load up yummy crabs and support the local seafood industry and don't forget the $5.00 pitchers of beer.....be sure and stay on for Rue Fiya at 9:00 pm!

Take Back the Night in Your Neighborhood!

Happy Tuesday Everybody,

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm and pick up some fresh seafood, veggies and you can even get some lunch!  Beaucoup Juice Chef Dylan Williams and his team will keep you cool all month long with fresh juice snoballs made with local fruit. Other cool items on the menu this week include vegan apple-currant-banana bread, vichyssoise, Greek blackened shrimp wrap or salad with cucumbers, Creole tomatoes, local Feta, greens and Greek vinaigrette, orzo salad with olives, Creole tomato, yellow bell pepper & basil, and acai bowls ....now that sounds delicious!

This evening there's lot of fun stuff going on....

Don't forget it's the National Night Out Against Crime....If you can't make it to one of the many block parties, don't forget to leave your porch light on!
