Wednesday....Jazz Fest Eve!!

Okay...seriously, there is so much stuff going on today I don't know even know where to begin...so here's the short list of good things going on this Jazz Fest Eve!

Wednesday Events

For starters, if you're lucky enough to have the day off here are a few things you can check out:

For more Quarter day fun walk on over to the Jazz in the Park at the Jean Lafitte - French Quarter Visitor Center (419 Decatur St) starting up at 10:30 am.  Enjoy a taste of life in Louisiana with a day of cooking and crafts demonstrations (corn macque choux, Houma Indian baskets, Mardi Gras masks, Islenos remedies, spinning and weaving) along with music by the U.S. Navy Band (10:30 a.m.-noon), David and Roselyn (12:15-1:45 p.m.), and Tony Green and the Gypsy Jazz Band
(2:00-3:30 p.m.) FREE!
 
Today is also Part 2 the Between Daze Festival from Noon to 6pm at the Rusty Nail (1102 Constance) to benefit the New Orleans Musicians Clinic and the Gulf Restoration Network. There's gonna be great food from Woody's Fish Tacos and pristine oysters, boiled crawfish by Brett Ryan Boilmaster Extraordinaire, plus jambalaya and gumbo by Crescent Pie and Sausage Company. As far as drinks go there will be great beers from NOLA Brewery and special cocktails from Old New Orleans Rum and excellent music.....New Era Presents Papa Mali + Mario Abney Quintet + Barr Brothers + Nigel Hall + The Logeaux Trio (and more)...admission is only $5!

It's the 5th Annual Chaz Fest 2010 from Noon - 10pm at the The Truck Farm, 3020 St. Claude Avenue - Here's the amazing line-up!

There's gonna be food by Bywater's own The Joint and a kids area.  Tickets are $30..but this it's definitely worth the price!!

And you know it's the pre-Jazz Fest concert for the Wednesday at the Square in Lafayette Square - Today's concert features the amazing piano woman herself, Miss Marcia Ball and My Name is John Michael as the opener.  Things get revved up at 5:00 pm...be sure to save some money for some super yummy food and beautiful crafts!!

Tuesday...are you rested up??

This is the time of year I wonder....why didn't I take off the whole week between Jazz Fest weekends?  It seems like a pretty good idea right about now.

Here are just a portion of the things going on today...enjoy!!

Tuesday Events!

I really believe the best way to start up your day is the Louisiana Music Factory...it's another day and another amazing in store concert line-up!  12:00 pm Lindsay Mendez, 1:00 pm Washboard Rodeo, 2:00 pm Bobby Rush, 3:00 pm Garage A Trois, 4:00 pm Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, 5:00 pm Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, 6:00 pm Zeke Fishhead and Jolly House, 7:00 pm Cyril Neville...wow!

Jazz Fest "Fats" Monday

Hope everyone had a most excellent Jazz Fest weekend....Besides a little dampness (just a little) on Friday it was an amazing weekend!

Here's what's happenin' this Monday...if you still need to get your groove on!

Start off your day right at the Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur) with their continuing in store concerts - check out the line-up!  12:00pm Big Daddy O', 1:00pm Dwayne Dopsie, 2:00pm Honey Island Swamp Band, 3:00pm Little Freddie King, 4:00pm Zachary Richard, 5:00pm New Orleans Cottonmouth Kings, 6:00pm Eric Lindell, and 7:00pm Big Sam’s Funky Nation!!

Take a little time out from the Music Factory to grab a beer and celebrate Gil T.'s Birthday with his big B-day bash at Kerry's Irish Pub (331 Decatur) at 5:00 pm...it's gonna be a good time with Foot & Friends!!

Then move on down the road to "FATS MONDAY" TO HONOR NATIVE SON FATS DOMINO - The French Market Corporation and WWOZ 90.7FM will present "FATS MONDAY", the first annual procession will include Fats Domino and his family riding in golf carts and led by a brass band through The French Market District. It will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Washington Artillery Park, go up St. Ann and around Jackson Square, then return to Decatur Street to proceed down to the French Market Flea Market, then back up to Decatur Street.  The procession will end at approximately 5:45 p.m. at The Market CafĂ© at 1000 Decatur Street, where a band will welcome Fats and he will sign autographs for his many fans!

MORE MUSIC

There's a happy hour happenin' at Chickie Wah Wah on Canal with the Pfister Sisters at 5:30 pm...No Cover..snacks and kitchen open! Then hang out for the Evan Christopher CD Release Party at 8:00 pm - The resident ambassador for the living tradition of New Orleans clarinet debuts his CD Clarinet Road Vol III!!

You can always have a lovely evening at The Columns on St. Charles Avenue...Sit on the porch and listen to Cajun music legend David Doucet at 8:00 pm.

Go down to hear another amazing early evening show with the 100th Anniversary of Bob French and the Original Tuxedo Band at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse (300 Bourbon) show starts around 8:00 pm!

You can also go on down to Donna's Bar and Grill at 800 N. Rampart Street - things get geared up at 9:30 with Les Getrex and The Blues All-Star Band and Blue Mondays means FREE red beans and rice and BBQ chicken!

If you're lookin' for some bluegrass music this evening...you don't have to go too far to find it....Check out the Hi Ho Lounge on 2239 St. Claude and the Bluegrass Pickin' Party at 8:00 pm...there's no cover and FREE red beans at this show too!

Rock 'N Bowl has a very special Monday night show with Alvin & the Guilty Women with special guest Sonny Landreth + Snooks Eaglin Tribute with Brint Anderson and George Porter Jr. starting up at 8:30...make sure to bring your socks...so, you can do some rockin' and bowlin'!!

If you're thinking about heading out later into the evening, go down Frenchmen Street and make a stop by the Spotted Cat for the Jazz Vipers at 10:00 pm.....it's sure to be a great Monday evening show.

Jazz Fest Eve!!!!

Good Morning Everybody,

It's another day with way too much stuff going on for one human to do...so make your plans now!

Thursday Events

Kick off work a little early, because the Louisiana Music Factory on Decatur (right across the street from the House of Blues) is starting off their Jazz Fest in store concerts.  Today's stellar line-up is 2:00pm John Ellis & Double Wide, 3:00pm Spencer Bohren, 4:00pm 101 Runners, 5:00pm Maurice Brown, 6:00pm Lena Prima, 7:00pm Big Al Carson, 8:00pm Soul Rebels Brass Band - Wow!!!

If you're hanging in Mid-City do a little wine tasting from Cork and Bottle around 5:00 pm (along with the Farmer's Market)...then head on over to the City Park for a big evening!

It's The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with accomplished jazz musicians Frank and Cindy Mayes. The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

Be sure to stay a little later in the park, because it's also Threadhead Thursday at the Botanical Garden!  Gates open at 8:00 pm...it's an evening outdoor concert featuring John Boutte, Paul Sanchez, Susan Cowsill, Craid Klein, Shamarr Allen, Glen David Andrews, Mary Lasseigne, Alex McMurray, Margie Perez, Debbie Davis, Russ Broussard, and Matt Perrine and it's totally FREE!!!

If you're staying in the downtown area...don't fret, there's plenty to do! 

You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art better known as Ogden after Hours.  The concert starts up at 6:00 pm with DJ Jubilee Also known as Mr. Temple.  DJ Jubilee and is one of the earliest New Orleans bounce rappers to come on the scene.  Jubilee helped define the genre with pumping party anthems like "Get it Ready," and "Take it to St. Thomas."....so come on down for some music, culture and fun! (remember if you get down there early - go grab a cocktail at the Circle Bar on Lee's Circle...one of the best happy hours in town!)

Want to celebrate the Saints Draft and eat some crawfish? Join Harrah's on Fulton Square this Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm for Bugs, Buds and Bands with Bruce Daigrepoint Cajun Band and celebrate!! Enjoy music, beer, and crawfish "with all the fixin's" with special deals for Harrah's Total Rewards members (the crawfish is a $1.00 a pound!!)  Ernst Cafe (right across the street) is joining in the fun with drink specials and televisions galore for the football fanatics!!

Need more stuff to do!

You can get your free crawfish cravin' fixed this evening at Maison on Frenchmen Street tonight at 7:00 pm!  Bar patrons get as many free mudbugs as they desire....and be sure to hang out for the big Earth Day Fest kicking up at 9:00 pm.  Check out this line-up!  9pm N'awlins Johnnys, 9:45 One Mind Brass Band, 10:30pm Big Sam's Funky Nation and 91.5 WTUL DJs, Manga Rosa, Sereia, Yamin and C, will be spinning world, funk, soul and latin music upstairs all evening! 

There's more crawfish waiting for you at the one and only historical Mother-in-Law Lounge tonight - starting at 6:00 pm and rolling on 'til 10:00. The Funk'n Blues'n Crawfish experience continues tonight with Ernie Vincent and the Top Notes with fresh CRAWFISH by Shaggy's Boil.....this boil will be rockin'!!!

And besides all that....there's the usual Thursday nite fun stuff. Make sure to stop by  Vaughn's for Kermit Ruffins...cause there ain't nothin' more New Orleans than Vaughn's on a Thursday night!

Wednesday at the Square or Under the Oaks???

Good Morning All,

Why is there sooooo much to do in this Town?? But seriously I'm not complainin'....

Two of my most favorite events are today, and I haven't figured out how to clone myself - so you decide what you want to do.

Wednesday Events

First, it's Wednesday, so that can mean only one thing....Lafayette Square and this is the big one before Jazz Fest weekend.  For this week's installment of Wednesday at the Square....we have Amanda Shaw (who I love!!) plus Mark Adam Miller (who is amazing!).  Things get kicked off at 5:00 and go all the way to 7:30.  Be sure to check out the cool art and yummy food while you're cruising around.

Okay, to make my life super confusing it's also the Ochsner Swing in the Oaks.  It's a free concert with the LPO on City Park's Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn starting up at 6:30 pm.  Enjoy a spectacular evening of popular favorites from Sullivan's H.M.S Pinafore to Gershwin's Girl Crazy Overture to Sondheim's Gypsy Overture.  Be sure to bring your picnics, family, and friends for a fun-filled evening!  This is such a special event and it's so much fun to check out the super fancy picnics some people bring out there!

Alright, once you've solved your early evening scheduling dilemna...here's what's going on tonight!

Wednesday Evening Music

If you're in the Marigny be sure to go by dba on Frenchmen Street for the early show at 7:00 pm with the Mirlitones (don't you love the name!)...and Walter Wolfman Washington is in for the 10:00 pm show!

The Iguanas are back at Chicke Wah Wah on Canal for a Wednesday night show through April 19th.  The band gears up at 8:00 pm - so put on your dancing shoes and go check it out!

A little later in the evening you've got Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue record release party at the Republic (828 S. Peters).   Show starts up at 9:00 pm ..check out this line-up!  The event will be hosted by Kermit Ruffins with performances by Rebirth Brass Band, Free Agents Brass Band, Hot 8 Brass Band and Juvenile.  Other Special Invited guests include Irvin Mayfield, James Andrews, Big Sam of Big Sam's Funky Nation, Shamarr Allen and actor Wendell Pierce.  The event is open to all fans and friends of Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue.  To attend, Please RSVP to meetusbackatown@gmail.com for list admission.

Tuesday Countdown to Jazz Fest!

Mornin' Everybody,

Okay...only three more days 'til Jazz Fest - can you believe???

Start off your Tuesday with some fun culture and go to the Ogden Museum of Southern Art with this cool event starting up at 7:00 pm....In conjunction with the Ogden's exhibition "Where They At: New Orleans Bounce and Hip-Hop in Words and Pictures," a special screening of the definitive bounce documentary Ya Heard Me? Featuring DJ Jubilee, Kilo, TTucker, Katey Red, Big Freedia, Mia X, and many more. RESERVATIONS RECOMMENDED - Museum Members get in FREE!  General Admission: $10 (Contact Susan at 504-539-9616....reserved seats deadline was Friday the 16th...but call for more info to see if you can get into this fabulous event!)

Music for Tuesday

Head on down to Canal Street, because Chickie Wah Wah has the amazing sounds of Anders Osborne, John Fohl and Johnny Sansone.  Show starts up at 8:00 pm...and bring your hunger they have some yummy eats!!

And if you want to hang out Uptown, spend this beautiful evening out on the porch at The Columns. Watch the streetcars go by, sip a martini and listen to the guitar styling's of John Rankin.

Need some more Anders after the Chickie show.....head on over to Le Bon Temps Roule on Magazine for another dose of Anders Osborne at 11:00 pm....there's NO COVER...and the beers are extra cold!!

And of course...if you're looking to gear up for Jazz Fest make your way to the Maple Leaf for THE REBIRTH!!!  I'm sure it's going to be a packed house with Fest mode in high gear - party starts around 10:30ish, but it's worth a little hangover for tomorrow.

Beers and Beans Monday

Yea!!  We finally got a little rain, but thank goodness it was late enough not to bother any of the fun yesterday!

Come join NOLA Beer this evening at Franky and Johnny's, 321 Arabella, for a NOLA Beer tasting featuring Nola Blonde and their new Hurricane Saison!!!!! It starts at 6:30 - so be sure not to miss it!

Be sure to go down River Road For some really cheap and yummy red beans and rice, and for the cool sounds of Amanda Walker....take a walk along the River Road levee this evening and make a stop at the River Shack Tavern...Amanda will be playing at 7:00 pm tonite!

Beautiful Sunday!

It's a beautiful pre Jazz Fest Sunday...What's going on this gorgeous day!!

It's the second half of Old Algiers Riverfest....take that Algier's Ferry over about noonish...and check out this line-up!

Next head on down to Laurence Square (corner of Magazine and Napoleon) for the Sixth Annual Celebracion Latina from Noon to 6:00 pm.  The Celebration is FREE and open to the public - there will be food, live music, and other entertainment all with a Latin flavor. Local Latin groups will be performing such as Ovi-G and the Froggies and Casa Samba.

Head a little further down Magazine towards the Irish Channel and check out the Half Moon (1125 St. Mary) grand opening of the patio.....They'll be FREE crawfish for all bar patrons!!

Hope you cleaned out your closets and attics so you can go right around the corner to The Friends of St. Alphonsus - Trash or Treasure Day! Bush LA.  Admission is $10.00 per person.  Be sure to brring flashlights and umbrellas! Your lawn chair, picnic dinner and thirst for our wine while listening to the outdoor concert.

Looking for music outdoors.......head on over to Gentilly's Pontchartrain Park for a FREE LPO concert tonight!  HBO "Treme" star, Wendell Pierce, joins the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in celebrating the first free outdoor concert in Pontchartrain Park.  The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra invites the community to bring their blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets and enjoy the glorious sounds of live music in the first free outdoor concert ever presented in New Orleans' Pontchartrain Park (Press Drive at Prentiss Avenue).  The concert begins at at 6 p.m. and will serenade listeners with a selection of well-known and well-loved works from George Gershwin's Girl Crazy Overture to the beloved America the Beautiful, introduced by Wendell Pierce and community leaders.

Pre-Jazz Fest Friday

Good Morning Everybody,

It's hard to believe, but one week from today is opening day of Jazz Fest.  Can't wait to get there early so I can watch the gates open and see the die hards grab that special real estate in front of their favorite stage!!  (hey...i got to get my blanket on my special spot too!!)

But we got a whole week before that happens...so what's going on today?

FRIDAY FUN STUFF

You can start off your Friday right by tuning into WWOZ 90.7 or www.wwoz.org from 11 am to 2 pm for the Louisiana Music Party with Bill deTurk!

Then get your evening started with the Abita Wheat Pub Crawl and $1.00 beer!!!  Crawl starts off at the Howlin Wolf, 907 S. Peters St. from 5:30pm-8pm (registration)...then off to Dino's Bar & Grill, 1128 Tchoupitoulas St. from 8pm-9pm...continue the party at the Rusty Nail, 1100 Constance St. 9pm-10pm and finish the party at Ugly Dog Saloon, 401 Andrew Higgins St.10pm-11pm.  (then take a cab home ;)

If you're hanging in the Quarter and want to hear some music and check out New Orleans history...head down to the Historic New Orleans Collection for their Courtyard Concert!  The spring series, which is sponsored by AOS, continues with a performance from Preservation Hall Hot 4 and selections from Covington Brewhouse beers. Thursday Events

Looking for some wine to taste??   Stop by Cork & Bottle around 5:00 pm in Mid-City (along with the Farmer's Market)...and if in Metairie about 6:00....there's a fun party tasting at Partysist on Metairie Road!!

Need a little culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art better known as Ogden after Hours.  The concert starts up at 6:00 pm. with singer/songwriter Andrew Duhon....so come on down for some music, culture and fun! (remember if you get down there early - go grab a cocktail at the Circle Bar on Lee's Circle...one of the best happy hours in town!)

Go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with talented musician Tony Green. The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

Want to celebrate the New Orleans Hornets and eat some crawfish? Join Harrah's on Fulton Square this Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm for Bugs, Buds and Bands with CoCo Robicheaux and the Swamp Monsters and celebrate the Hornets Fan Fest!! Enjoy music, beer, and crawfish "with all the fixin's" with special deals for Harrah's Total Rewards members (the crawfish is a $1.00 a pound!!)

Need more crawfish?  You can get your free crawfish cravin' fixed this evening at Maison Frenchmen on Frenchmen Street (of course) tonight at 7:00 pm!  Bar patrons can load up on crawfish and stay on for the brass band beat of the Young Fellaz at 10 pm.

It's a Triple Threat Tuesday!

Will this good weather ever stop??  You got to love it!!  Here's what's going on this lovely Tuesday!

Get your evening started off right with a trip down to Decatur Street with a free evening show at the Louisiana Music Factory.  Check out Ken Colyer Trust Party featuring Kid Simmons' New Orleans Band at 6:00pm.  You can also get pick up some drink tickets for some cheap and yummy beers down the street, and don't forget to pick up a couple cds from the amazing music collection!

If you're hungry for a great burger be sure to stop at Yo Mama's Bar and Grill for some Beth Patterson and some din din - show starts at 8:00 pm - 727 St. Peter.  You should also be sure to pop in next door at the Boondock Saint for some Irish whisky and beer!

Rock 'N Bowl has a triple threat tonight with Joe Krown, Walter "Wolfman" Washington and Russell Batiste at 8:30 pm...where else on a Tuesday night can you catch this kind of show.  Don't forget - if you eat next door at Ye Olde College Inn you get a discounted ticket for the show.

Okay, did I say there's only one place where you could catch an amazing threesome...ummm...I was wrong!  Head on down to Canal Street, because Chickie Wah Wah has the amazing sounds of Anders Osborne, John Fohl and Johnny Sansone.  Show starts up at 8:00 pm...and bring your hunger they have some yummy eats!!

And if you want to hang out Uptown, spend this beautiful evening out on the porch at The Columns. Watch the streetcars go by, sip a martini and listen to the guitar styling's of John Rankin.

The Day after French Quarter Fest

Hope everyone made it okay to work today....it was a little hard going back after such a beautiful weekend!!

Here's a few things to do this evening to make your weekend last longer.....

Featured Monday Music

Be sure to go down River Road For some really cheap and yummy red beans and rice and the cool sounds of Amanda Walker....take a walk along the River Road levee this evening and make a stop at the River Shack Tavern...Amanda will be playing at 7:00 pm tonite! 

The Columns on St. Charles Avenue has Cajun music legend David Doucet at 8:00 pm. Sit on the porch, drink a cocktail and watch the streetcars go by.

If you're headed to the Quarter there's a few things you can do this evening.   Go down to hear another amazing early evening show with Bob French and the Original Tuxedo Band at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse show starts around 8:00 pm...with NO COVER.

You can also go on down to Donna's Bar and Grill at 800 N. Rampart Street - things get geared up at 9:30 with Les Getrex and The Blues All-Star Band and Blue Mondays means FREE red beans and rice and BBQ chicken!

There's always something fun happenin' at Chickie Wah Wah on Canal, tonight check out Evan Chrisopher's International Jazz Jam at 7:00 pm.....Join Evan and French Quarter Festival friends and family for a post Festival jazz jam.

If you're lookin' for some bluegrass music this evening...you don't have to go too far to find it....Check out the Hi Ho Lounge on St. Claude and the Bluegrass Pickin' Party at 8:00 pm...there's no cover and FREE red beans at this show too!

French Quarter Fest and Treme Premiere!

Good Morning Everybody,

It's time to get up early and get down for the last of day of French Quarter Fest 2010.  Bring an empty stomach so you can load up on your favorite foods (I need some Vaucresson sausage, meat pies and turtle soup!!)  It will be another amazing line-up of bands all over the Quarter, from the Mint to the Aquarium (schedule) - with the Radiators as the closeout at 5:30!

If you're heading out of the fest and looking for more music.....get right on over to Bacchanal to catch Los Poboy-Citos at 6:00 pm for a FREE Sunday show! (and make sure you save a little room for their fabulous food!)

Tonight is also the premiere of New Orleans based series "Treme" on HBO....if you were like me and so many others who lived in New Orleans early post Katrina...you may want to gather with friends to watch this already, critically acclaimed, series.  (And even if you weren't living in New Orleans at that time - I think this is going to truly move you.)  The Mother-In-Law Lounge is having a premiere party - so head over at about 8:00 pm to gather, view, reminisce and appreciate the truly great CITY we live in.  (Treme airs at 9:00 pm Central tonite).

Wow...what a beautiful day!

I can imagine if you're in New Orleans there's only one thing you gonna do today....and that's GO to the largest FREE FEST in the City - French Quarter Fest!  Not to mention....you couldn't have ordered a more perfect day.

So, I'll make it a short and sweet one, check out the schedule, go see some only in New Orleans music, eat some amazing only in New Orleans food, layout in the sun and have an all around great day!!

It's French Quarter Fest Eve and the City is kickin' with loads of things to do!  So, let's see what's happenin'!

A Tuesday in New Orleans

Good Morning All,

Another gorgeous day and you should have been at the Rivershack last night for Amanda Walker...she is one amazing singer, and the red beans were spectacular!  It really is a great way to spend your Monday night!

Will you be heading down to the Quarter this evening?  If you do, be sure to stop at Yo Mama's Bar & Grill for some Beth Patterson and a great burger - show starts at 8:00 pm - 727 St. Peter.  If you're looking for a little luck of the Irish....stop next door at Boondock Saint and check out their vast selection of Irish beers and whiskey - this promises to be a fun night!

Rock 'N Bowl has New Orleans favorite Benny Grunch and the Bunch...you will surely have a yatty good time at this one...and do a little rockin' and some bowlin'.  Don't forget - if you eat next door at Ye Olde College Inn you get a discounted ticket for the show (tonight 20% of your meal proceeds goes to the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation - better known as Save our Lake !!)

Chickie Wah Wah has the usual fun Tuesday show with Anders Osborne, Johnny Sansone and Susan Cowsill what a talented trio!!  Show starts up at 8:00 pm...there may be a small cover, but it's worth it!!

Monday Fun!

Good Morning Everybody!

Another beautiful Monday and I hope everyone had a fantastic Easter weekend!!  If you're home watching the kiddies, or are lucky enough to have Easter Monday off....Here are a few things you might want to do today.

For those of you who with the day off lookin' for a unique New Orleans experience....Check out Vella Vetro Art Glass at 3000 Royal St on the 2nd Floor. You can come by anytime Monday thru Friday 9 - 3 pm for free glass blowing demonstrations.

If you're going to hang out at City Park to feed the ducks, geese and squirrels (maybe even a raccoon)....be sure to check out the fancy new dog park - NOLA City Bark....and if you have a pup of your own....you can register them for a small fee...also, doggie must be up to date with shots.

Don't forget about Audubon Park...they have just as many ducks and crazy geese out there too who are lookin' for some bunny bread to munch on....(don't think I've ever seen a raccoon though)...And you can always head on over to the Fly (the park behind the zoo) and watch the ships pass by.

Well if you had enough relaxing in the park on this gorgeous day - here are some fun music events for tonight!!

This is going to be a short one....I hope everyone has a joyful day and enjoys a lovely brunch or lunch with their family and loved ones.

Looking for some fun shopping  - check out Elysian Fleas on 527 Elyasian Fields (of course), just in time for Easter, from 11 to 5:00 pm today (and now weekly)!!  Ms. Cree McCree will be there on Saturday with a delightful collection of Cree-ations Easter bonnets, fresh & flirty sundresses, cool summer shirts for guys and my famous Righteous Fur nutria-teeth jewelry. Donald will also be on hand with his Straight from the Hipster used books ("classic lit from the Greeks to the Beats"), along with Howlpop and lots of other cool vendors.


To celebrate the Grand Opening as a weekly market, Debauche is playing gypsy hooligan music, Old New Orleans Rum is raffling off rum, and there are Easter egg and afikomen hunts for kids, so it should be a lot of fun!!


Do the kiddies need some Easter Egg Fun....stoll them over to Palmer Park at 11:00 for the Mayor's Easter Egg Hunt...there should be loads of bunny fun out there!


After the hunt be sure to head on over to the Freret Street Market (at Freret and Napoleon) for all your Easter presents needs from Noon to 5:00 pm...They'll be music, 90 amazing vendors, and animal rescue groups will be there.....so you can bring home a forever friend this afternoon. 

Prefer the wine to the egg hunt - not a problem....Run on over to Bacchanal Wine for Saturday's Free Wine Tasting: Meet The Grape, King Cab from 3:00pm - 6:00pm.


And if you're strolling the Quarter this afternoon, be sure to stop and hang out at the Louisiana Music Factory (possibly wearing one of Cree's amazing Easter bonnets!!)  There will be live music shows this afternoon from  Jonno & Bayou Deville @ 2pm Ted Hefko and The Thousandaires @ 3pm and Seva Venet @ 4pm - you can pick up some beer coupons at the store and stroll down the block for your favorite brew!!  Be sure to snatch up some great music for your family and friend's Easter Basket!


Saturday Night Events


I know ya'll are not going to forget about Jammin' on Julia this evening (check out the link, or yesterday's post for more details)!!  It's going to be a great event!!


And you definitley want to start your Easter Celebration a little early with Chris Owens tonight at 7:30 ....with a night-time cocktail party with complimentary wine, champagne, soft drinks and hors d' oeuvres at the Chris Owens Club, 500 Bourbon Street. Guests will have access to a private upstairs room and balcony that overlooks Bourbon Street. There's a show following, featuring Chris Owens; a one-woman dazzling, talking, singing, dancing, sparkling explosion of perpetual motion that sweeps the audience right into the tempo of the show!

Then Easter morning don't forget to make plans for the French Quarter Easter Parade with Ms. Owens as Grand Duchess.  The parade gears up at 1:00 pm on Canal and Bourbon - it's always a great one and you may even catch some candy!!!!

It's a Good Friday....

Good Morning All,

All I have to say this morning is La Cote Brasserie makes an amazing gumbo....and I can dance in high heeled shows...for real!!

Now onto some fun FRIDAY EVENTS!!

If you're looking for super yummy food - check out the Slidell BBQ Challenge in Olde Towne Slidell.  There's gonna be professional cookers and back yard grillers competing from 4:30 to 10:00 pm on today and 10 to 10:00 pm on Saturday....Tonight they got the Redoux Band at 6:00 pm - this is gonna be one mouth watering event!

Be sure stop and stay awhile at the Good Friday Celebration at 2132 Simon Bolivar, you'll be hearing the Jo Cool Davis presents his annual gospel concert, featuring Sherman Washington & the Zion Harmonizers, and many others at 5:00 pm tonight!

For evening fun head on down to the early show (7:00 pm) at the BMC located at 1331 Decatur and check out the jazzy styling of Jayna Morgan & the Sazerac Sunrise Band...it should be a beautiful night in the Quarter. If you stay right there you can catch the Latin music of Fredy Omar...he should get you up and dancing!!

If you want to hang out in Mid-City, and why wouldn't you want to do that??  Head on over to Chickie Wah Wah and go by for the Pfister Sisters Happy Hour with NO COVER - snacks and kitchen open!  Then stay on for Paul Sanchez & Friends at 8:00 pm with Original compositions for the musical based on the book NINE LIVE.

It's just my opinion, but many of you may head off to bed early tonight to prepare for the Crescent City Classic.....Soooo you partying folks check out the Offbeat listings for all the music going on this evening.

And remember tomorrow is another fun filled day with the Crescent City Classic after party concert (check the link above)....Check out who's playing over the Louisiana Music Factory tomorrow - they always have some sweet concerts going on for FREE and some cool beer specials from the bars down the street.

TGIT!!

Good Morning Everybody,

It was another crowded Wednesday at the Square last night, and another fun show.  I'm not quite sure how much of the band I actually saw, but it was a fun evening to hang out with old friends!

Now on to Thursday...for some of the lucky bunch today is the start of your weekend....it is for me, and I'm happy!!

Thursday Events

Need a little culture and music?  You gotta go to the show at Ogden after Hours this evening starting up at 6:00 pm.    You'll get to check out the North Mississippi Blues music of Cedric Burnside, grandson of the blues legend R.L. Burnside...this promises to be an excellent show...so come on down to the Ogden for some music, culture and fun! (remember if you get there early - go grab a cocktail at the Circle Bar on Lee's Circle...one of the best happy hours in town!)

Need to get your gambling on and want to eat some crawfish too?  Join Harrah's on Fulton Square this Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm for Bugs, Buds and Bands with Nathan and the Zydeco Cha-Chas!!  Enjoy music, beer, and crawfish "with all the fixin's" with special deals for Harrah's Total Rewards members.

Want to hang out in the park this evening??  No problem.  The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series is going on featuring Tom McDermott & Evan Christopher.  The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

Craving some more crawfish and don't want to gamble?  Not a problem....There's some waiting for you at the one and only historical Mother-in-Law Lounge tonight - starting at 6:00 pm and rolling on 'til 10:00.  The Funk'n Blues'n Crawfish experience continues tonight with Ernie Vincent and the Top Notes and fresh CRAWFISH by Shaggy's Boil....Now this a great way to spend the evening!!

Want to pub hop? (literally,....it is Easter time).  Then the NOLA Bunarchy Pub Crawl will take care of your pub crawlin' needs and funds go to a great cause, the Louisiana SPCA.  The hop kicks off at MIMI's at 8pm then off to YUKI at 9pm Dragons Den at 10pm Aunt Tiki's at 11pm and final stop at One Eyed Jacks at 12am.  Passes for the event will be $10 and gets you cover and drink specials at all stops.  Passes are available at FUNROCK'N and PopCity 930 Decatur and at all stops.  Now this sounds like a hoppin' good time!!!

And besides all that....there's usual Thursday nite fun stuff.  If I can stay up late enough...I'll be hitting the Kermit Ruffins show at Vaughn's...cause there ain't nothin' more New Orleans than Vaughn's on a Thursday night!!!
