Thursday w/Wine, Concerts and Honeypots!

Good Morning Everybody - it's a lovely day and there's lots of good stuff goin' on!

Thursday Events

Don't miss out on the weekly wine tasting at Cork and Bottle (3700 Orleans) about 5:00 pm in Mid-City. Come sample some delicious vinos and kick off your early weekend right! You can also stop at Clever (right next door - don't even have to walk outside) for their happy hour specials after attending the free wine tasting!  And be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market (right outside the door) and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more!! 

Go hang out at City Park this evening and enjoy music from Smokin' Time Jazz Club for the Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series!  Enjoy the sweet, sensuous, seductive sounds of The Smoking Time Jazz Club, New Orleans Classic Jazz and Blues a la Jelly Roll Morton and King Oliver! Gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children (it was $3 last year :)

The Armstrong Park Thursdays big finale concert is tonight with Cyril Neville, the Baby Boyz Brass Band and DJ Quickie Mart! The concerts runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and come hungry - there will be food from Café Treme, Wine and Bistro, Jacques-Imo's Café, and more...Fun!!  (Ok - I'm getting mixed news - I'm hearing Allen Toussaint is tonight!  Guess you'll have to go and find out!)

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden presents Kelcy Mae Combining traditional Southern bluegrass and country instrumentation with an acoustic independent rock sound, Kelcy Mae hits a pitch-perfect balance!  And tonight the O BAR's specialty drink is The Mint Julep - Seersucker, white linen and mint juleps -- summer has arrived. The O Bar will concoct a refreshing julep to rival those served at the Kentucky Derby!!

After all the early concerts, be sure to head on down to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) for an amazing evening of lovely singers - with the acoustic sounds of the Honeypots at 8:00 pm!  To top it off it's the CD Release Party for "Something Sweet"!!  Be sure to grab your autographed copy tonight!

Tuesday Farmer's Market and Music!

Good morning everybody and happy Tuesday!

Farmer's Market!

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm.  After wowing us last week, Domenica finishes up the month of May with an amazing menu:  Monica’s vegetable shakshouka with farm eggs and garlic grilled ciabatta, hand-rolled cavatelli pasta with almonds, Mauthe’s cream and Bill Ryals’ pork shoulder, sweet corn custard with Pete & Clara’s pickled shrimp and spring onion salad, Chilton County peach torta with blueberries and salted caramel, and honeydew aqua fresca. Swing by the market this Tuesday and pick up lunch, or dinner!

Good Music Tonight!

And there's a great evening on the Avenue....Cause it's another lovely southern night for porch sitting and music over at the The Columns (3811 St. Charles Ave.) from 8:00 to 11:00 pm...Have a fancy cocktail and listen to the New Orleans Guitar Masters with Phil DeGruy, Jimmy Robinson, John Rankin, and Cranston Clements! Brick DuBois, visiting New Orleans for the first time, will play from 8 to 8:30, then the NOGM will take over - 6 string guitars, 7 string guitars, 12 string guitars, and Phil's own 13 or 19 or whatever string guitarp, and they're not afraid to use 'em.  There's no cover, but don't forget to tip the band!

Right down the street the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) has a triple header with no cover - Andy Forest at 4:00 pm, Aurora Nealand and the Royal Roses at 6:00 pm, and top off the evening with Meschiya Lake & The Little Big Horns at 10:00 pm!

End your night over at the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street...with  the Grammy Award winning REBIRTH Brass Band they come on around 10:30ish - there's a cover, but you'll be glad you paid and stayed up late!!

A Friday w/ Greek Fun, Jambalaya, Lots of Vino & Music!

Happy Three Day Weekend - Woop woop!!!

Start your weekend off with a little wine close to Bayou St. John (cause it's a wine kind of weekend!)  It's the Friday Free for All from 6 to 8 pm at Swirl Wine Bar & Market (3143 Ponce de Loen).  Jared Breaux from International will take you on a European tour tonight with 4 free wines from Italy, Spain, France and Portugal. Chef Richard will be in the house serving up his delicious tapas plates. This tasting is free!  See you there!

Well, if it's Memorial Day weekend it can only mean one thing...and that's Greek Fest (1200 Robert E. Lee Blvd.)....Come out and experience Greece on the Bayou, and the 39th annual Hellenic party with a uniquely New Orleans flair!  Join the fun for delicious food, delightful drinks, and entertainment the entire family will enjoy.  (Entrance fee is only $5...and children under 12 get in FREE!) The fest runs all weekend, and tonight things get kickin' at 5:00 pm...Oh....and make sure you check out the ouzo daiquiri...it's a good one!

And if you're searching for a great little road trip...(it's really not that far)...You've got to head on over to Gonzales for the Jambalaya Festival today through Sunday in Gonzales (120 Irma Blvd.)!!  The festivities get kickin' up today with cooking contests starting up at 11:30 am and the fun runs through midnight....."The World's Largest Jambalaya Cook-Off" is the big event with rides, music, a car show, cooking contests and more then 20 bands!!  For more details on all the fun and how to get there...click on the link above!!

Thursday w/a Stroll, Concerts in Parks & a Museum, & Top it off w/a Benefit!

What a beautiful evening for a stroll on Royal!

This evening is the Royal Street Stroll sponsored by Rouses the fun starts up at 5:30pm and goes until 8:30pm at the 300 Royal Street, The Wine and Food Experience Event brings together New Orleans' greatest gifts: rare antiques, fine art, live jazz and stunning historic architecture with the world's outstanding wines. Shop the enchanting galleries of Royal Street while experiencing wine offerings at each stop, as live jazz music fills the air. As always, the Krewe of Cork will parade down Royal Street to add to the fun!

At the event, in exchange for your ticket, you will receive a 2012 Wine Glass & Wristband that allows you receive wine & food offerings.  Tickets are $75 per person in advance ($90 on-site), available at NOWFE....If you're poor like me and can't afford the wristband...be sure to head down anyway and support the shops and establishments on Royal this evening...it's a fun event!!!

*Rescheduled for Tonight Swing in the Park with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at Lafreniere Park under the gazebo on the center island of the Park. The LPO is hosting FREE outdoor concert which will feature traditional classic and modern favorites that will please any and all generations of listeners. Selections include: Overture to Light Cavalry, Suite from Carmen, Selections from Phantom of the Opera, Strike Up the Band, Muppet Medley, Traditional New Orleans Medley, Big Band Fantasy, Irving Berlin - A Symphonic Portrait, and Stars and Stripes Forever. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnics for a relaxed evening at the park. While refreshments will be available for purchase, guests are invited to bring their own ice chests, food and beverage. Support the Gulf Restoration Network and Sweet Home New Orleans tonight at the Blue Nile (532 Frenchmen) at 9:00 pm.  It's a very special concert where New Orleans' own Bonerama and Sunpie Barnes will be performing with special guests Elvis Perkins, Erin McKeown, Jeanie Schroder (Devotchka), Justin Poree (Ozomatli), Lateef The Truthspeaker, Martín Perna (Antibalas + Ocote Soul), Merrill Garbus (tUnE-yArDs), Spank Rock, Thao Nguyen (Thao And The Get Down Stay Down), and more for "Dear NOLA: A Concert for New Orleans".   This show is a benefit for Sweet Home New Orleans and Gulf Restoration Network, two New Orleans-based nonprofits working to support and sustain the region's unique musical and cultural traditions and to protect and restore vital environmental and community resources for future generations.  Tickets are only $12 for this amazing night of music!

Tonight also kicks off the Birdfoot Festival....Named for the branching profile of the Mississippi River Delta, the inaugural Birdfoot Chamber Music Festival begins tonight and runs through Friday evening. The three-night celebration begins with an open rehearsal evening tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Uptown Jewish Community Center (5342 St. Charles Ave.); tomorrow there will be a Festival Concert at 8 p.m. at the Old U.S. Mint (400 Esplanade Ave.), and Friday there will be a "Party at the Piazza" at Piazza d'Italia (300 Poydras St.). Opera returns to Bourbon Street with Opera on Tap - It's New Orleans Summer in the city!  Song, wine, and air condition are the perfect combination for summer fun.! Join the fun tonight at 7:00 pm at the Puccini Bar located at the Inn on Bourbon (541 Bourbon)! The Inn is located at the site of the French Opera House (1859-1919) and continues to celebrate its history with a live performance series.  Special $5 parking is extended to all guests attending the performances.

TGIF w/Courtyard Concerts, Seersucker and Bayou Fun!

Hurray for Friday and what a beautiful day it is!!

Cut our of work a little bit early for the "Bon Operatit! on the Balcony Series" celebrating "The Sound of Music" from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the Upper Pontabla, 520 St. Peters Street - Cost is FREE!

Farmer's Market!

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm.  After wowing us last week, Domenica is back with another equally impressive menu:  Swiss chard ravioli with butter and Parmigiano Reggiano, chilled tomato soup with crab meat salad, goat cheese stuffed squash blossoms with aged balsamic, rhubarb and ginger cobbler with fresh mint, and peach, blueberry, basil and mint aqua fresca. Swing by the market this Tuesday and pick up lunch, or dinner!

Happy Hump Day w/the Square, a Market & Plenty of Music!

It's a beautiful Wednesday (that rain better stay away!!)  Celebrate the day with lots of good stuff going on 'round town!

Come on down to Lafayette Square for another stellar line-up for this year's Wednesday at the Square concert series....there will be crafts, food and libations....Karl Denson's Tiny Universe plus Robin Barnes get things movin' this evening at 5:00 pm - and check out the entire line-up so you can make your plans.

Head on over to Lakeview and the Harrison Avenue Marketplace presented by Beacon of Hope tonight from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the parking lot of Lakeview Grocery at 801 Harrison Avenue.  You'll enjoy music by Dirty Play and come shop and support the local artists who can help you find that perfect something for you and your Mom (don't forget Mother's Day is Sunday!) There will be 75 arts, crafts and food vendors along with the Bayou Gaming Truck hosted by St. Paul's. You can enjoy the famous char-grilled oysters from Drago's or Baked Alaska from Antoine's. Stop by the Beacon Beverage booth to enjoy a refreshing libation from an array of thirst quenchers. Try the new Velvet Cactus Margarita-frozen or on the rocks! It's going to a fun evening!

Tuesday w/Veggies, Joan of Arc & Lots of Music!

Good morning everybody and happy Tuesday!

Farmer's Market!

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm.  After wowing us last week, Domenica is back with another equally impressive menu: grilled spring onion, romanesco and goat cheese bruschetta, grilled shrimp with fresh corn, fava bean and cherry tomato salad, chicken liver and onion frittata, buttermilk chocolate cupcakes with blackberries, and peach, blueberry, basil and mint aqua fresca. Swing by the market this Tuesday and pick up lunch, or dinner!

Special Event!

Exhibit of Joan of Arc Statues opens today at the Ursulines Convent with an Artist Reception from 5:00 to 8:00 pm (In honor of Joan's lifting of the Siege of Orleans - May 8, 1429)! A new exhibit of photographs of Joan of Arc statues taken throughout France by native New Orleans Alex Labry. This event is free and open to the public and the display will continue until the end of June 2012.

And there's a great evening on the Avenue....Cause it's another lovely southern night for porch sitting and music over at the The Columns (3811 St. Charles Ave.)...Have a fancy cocktail and listen to the guitar stylings of John Rankin!
