What a beautiful Thursday!

It's an Elephant Birthday Party at the Audubon Zoo!  Panya, the senior member of the beloved pair of female Asian elephants at the Audubon Zoo, celebrates her 50th birthday on today at 2 p.m. Zoo staffers will present Panya with a cake, gifts and a giant birthday card signed by guests. Everyone is invited to observe the "party'' celebrating this milestone birthday from the Asian Domain boardwalk.

Panya, who weighs in at 9,500 pounds, will be joined by her longtime sidekick, 7,500-pound Jean, who is a spry 41. The two pachyderms have been star attractions at Audubon Zoo for 30-plus years. Jean came to Audubon Zoo in 1978 and Panya arrived in 1980.  The special birthday "party'' will be held in the temporary elephant exhibit across from the white tiger enclosure.

It's a beautiful night to hang out at City Park and enjoy  Pianist Lars Edegran, leader of the New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra, as he teams up with world renowned clarinetist Tom Sancton for a fun evening of toe tapping New Orleans Jazz at the Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series!  The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children.

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the concert at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden has the Gerald French Trio.  Gerald started playing drums at the age of 5. He is the son of George French and nephew of Bob French, the Frenches being part of the pantheon of illustrious New Orleans musical families. He has traveled and performed with hundreds of musicians, treating listeners all around the world to the many different genres of music he has mastered. And remember if you're a member of the Ogden you always get in free!

Tonight the Ogden has Dave Malone with Friends and Family. For more than 30 years, Dave Malone was best known as the guitarist/vocalist and one of the songwriters of The Radiators, with whom he recorded more than a dozen albums. The group performed over 4,000 shows in their 33 years together. For this Ogden After Hours, Malone will perform with his daughter, Darcy, Graham Robinson, and Steve Spitz.

Tonight is the Tastings at the Track Wine Series Kick Off at the Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots (1751 Gentilly Blvd.) from 6:00 p.m. 'til 8:00 p.m.  The fun tasting series returns with "Bountiful Bubbles: Sparkling Wines from Around the World." The reception-style tasting will feature 30 sparkling wines including those from California and France, Cava from Spain and Italian Prosecco. The tasting will also feature a selection of gourmet cheeses, and wine experts who will answer wine-related questions. Cost is $25 per person. Tonight the Ogden has Jimbo Mathus.  Entertainer, singer, instrumentalist, songwriter, and tankerman, Jimbo Mathus was born in Oxford, Mississippi. His early life was filled with music, as his father and relatives were skilled instrumentalists and singers. He began joining the family musical circle at an early age and by age 8 was proficient at mandolin. By 15, Jimbo had been taught the rudiments of guitar, piano and harmony singing. The family's repertoire consisted of hundreds of folk, bluegrass, country blues and pre-recorded songs passed down through the Mathus and Byrd families. You may also know him from his band "Squirrel Nut Zippers" - Good stuff!

It's finally here....Hooray!!  Okay...it may be a little yucky outside today, but the weather peeps are saying it should stop raining around 2ish or 3ish - so we can get out there and do some celebrating!!!

Fundraiser!!

Fundraiser at Jimmy's Music Club - Do you remember hanging out Jimmy's (8200 Willow St.) as a youth?  It was one of the best music clubs in NOLA...It was the first  music club I ever went to, and I was lucky enough to see bands like - Lords of the New Church, Aztec Camera and Modern English to just name a few!  Well, Jimmy needs your help..the City of New Orleans is giving him a hard time about opening up the club (imagine that?!) and he has a mounting legal bills.  Come out tonight starting at 6:00 pm and all weekend long for an amazing line-up of bands and help save the music!!! Some More Thursday Night Music

There's lots of fun going on over at Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) tonight!  It's The Creole String Beans - tonight about 8:00 pm! And Come hungry for a Louisiana sammich for dinner!

And head on over to Frenchmen and the Spotted Cat Music Club (623 Frenchmen) cause they have a triple header with Sarah McCoy's Oopsie Daisies at 4:00 pm, Miss Sophie Lee at 6:00 and stay on and party with Jumbo Shrimp at 10:00 PM!!

There's more fun on Frenchmen over at d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen) with Jon Cleary at 7:00 pm with no cover!!  And stay on for more music with Hurray For The Riff Raff + Sam Doores with Riley Downing & The Tumbleweeds($10 cover) at 10:00 pm - you don't want to miss it!!
