Jazz in the Park Free Concert Series kicks off this evening in Armstrong Park! PUfAP is proud to present the 2013 second season of Jazz in the Park, inside of the historic Louis Armstrong Park. The events are FREE, with an art market from Noon to 8:00 p.m., cool Jazz from Noon to 3:00 p.m., Second Line begins at 4:00 p.m., and the afternoon music kicks off at 5:30 pm - Check out the great line-up of music below!

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden presents Robin Barnes. Barnes’s music is inspired by several genres, including jazz, soul, blues, and even a little reggae. It's a great night to hang out at City Park and enjoy Julio and Cesar for the Twilight Garden Concert Series! Originally from Guatemala, Julio and Cesar Herrera have been in New Orleans for over 30 years.  They describe their music as constantly evolving, attributing this, in part, to their exposure from an early age to many cultures. The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children.

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden has Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Review. Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue is a country swing band from New Orleans that incorporates original material with the best of country, rockabilly and western swing classics. Singer, Vanessa Newman's vocal range glides seamlessly from a dreamy Patsy Cline to a gritty, hard-edged Johnny Cash, with a twang of country reverence for Merle Haggard and Bob Wills.

Patriotic Celebrations!

Tonight head on down to Lafreniere Park (3000 Downs Blvd.) for Uncle Sam Jam 2013 at 5:00 pm. The Annual Family Day with Music & Fireworks Display. The Jam features food & beverage concessions, music, and fireworks display. Performance by Ghost Town (5-7pm); the New Orleans Concert Band (7-9pm); FIREWORKS AT 9 PM; and Bucktown Allstars (9:15-11:00 pm). FREE ADMISSION! Don't forget your blanket or lawn chairs AND enjoy the evening under the stars!

Wear your red, white, and blue and join in as City Park celebrates the 3rd of July! Bring your friends and family along for this new annual family event right here in your City Park from 7:00 to 9:00 pm (fireworks at 9:00)! The Marine Corps Band and the Naval Band of New Orleans will play on the Goldring Woldenberg Great Lawn. You're invited to bring your chairs and blankets to listen to them play music with a patriotic theme. They'll even have some sing-a-longs for you, too!

Thursday Fun with Music in the Garden,"O" with Jimbo Mathus, Abita Beer and Toasts & Tiki Tails!

It's a great night to hang out at City Park and enjoy David Torkanowsky for the Twilight Garden Concert Series! David is recognized as one of the finest contemporary jazz pianists in New Orleans, and over the years has performed with most of the great New Orleans musicians. Things just seem to sizzle when David is playing his piano. He is sure to have some new songs, so grab your mint julep and get ready for an enjoyable evening. The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children.

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden has Jimbo Mathus.  Entertainer, singer, instrumentalist, songwriter, and tankerman, Jimbo Mathus was born in Oxford, Mississippi. His early life was filled with music, as his father and relatives were skilled instrumentalists and singers. He began joining the family musical circle at an early age and by age 8 was proficient at mandolin. By 15, Jimbo had been taught the rudiments of guitar, piano and harmony singing. The family's repertoire consisted of hundreds of folk, bluegrass, country blues and pre-recorded songs passed down through the Mathus and Byrd families. You may also know him from his band "Squirrel Nut Zippers" - Good stuff!

This evening is the Royal Street Stroll and the fun starts up at 5:30 pm and goes until 8:30 pm! Enjoy amazing food and wine as you stroll from the 200 block to the 900 block of Royal Street. The Wine and Food Experience Event brings together New Orleans' greatest gifts: antiques, fine art, live jazz and stunning historic architecture with the world's outstanding wines. Shop the enchanting galleries of Royal Street while experiencing wine at each stop, as live jazz music fills the air. As always, the Krewe of Cork will parade down Royal Street!

His interest in music was influenced by his parents, both classically trained musicians. Seth began playing the cello at the age of three but eventually fell in love with the guitar. Once Seth was introduced to the blues by his uncle, he began to trust his own voice and his desire to express himself through music. Weekend Fun with Hogs for the Cause, St. Baldrick's, and Festivals Galore!

Happy weekend and we deserve it!!

Weekend Festivals and Fun!!

The delicious smell of pork and the amazing sounds of music are filling the air over at City Pork (a/k/a City Park) tomorrow for Hogs for the Cause! This pork lovers paradise includes 80 competing BBQ teams plus lots of beer, food and trucks and of course music! The musical line-up is spectacular with the Lost Bayou Ramblers, Rebirth Brass Band, Robert Randolph and the Family Band with special guest Anders Osborne and more!! And remember all the money goes to a worthy cause - to aid families with children suffering from pediatric brain cancer. So get high on the Hog for a very good cause! Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate - Gates open at 11:00 am - for more info click here.

Celebrate St. Baldrick's Day and help out kids with pediatric cancer.  There are two big events going on Saturday where you can have some fun and help out!!  Come on over to Finn McCool's Irish Pub (3701 Banks Street) at noon for some head shaving, some Irish fun and libations!

And no worries, if you can't make Finn's there's more head shaving fun at the Deutsches Haus (1023 Ridgewood Drive) with an after party with the Mustard Brothers. Shavings will be from 5 pm to 8 pm with numerous activities for kids while heads are shaved for donations. So if you have some extra funds you can spare, please visit www.stbaldricks.org and donate either to the event or to a team.  (Rumor has it that a really hot Pussyfooter - Ms. Kathleen Ford - will be shaving her head for the cause!!)

And if you happen to be in the Quarters head on over to the French Market for the Nola Food Fest!  The flavorful fest runs Saturday 11:00 am to 7:00 pm and Sunday 11:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  Four blocks in the French Market will be lined with dozens of top Food Fest cooks from New Orleans and all of Louisiana as well as from all across America, each offering a unique specialty. This is NOT typical and expected festival fare: it is a taste of America's most celebrated dishes, all gathered in one place: a foodie's dream. Portions are right-sized and priced to provide everyone a chance to taste the maximum number of great regional eats as they stroll through the French Market inhaling delicious smells that range from real Texas pit barbecue to Pecan Pie to artisan boudin sausage made by Cajun country's most beloved butchers. And while your in the Quarter head on over to Armstrong Park for the Congo Square New World Rhythms Festival - Saturday and Sunday, 10:30 am to 7:00 pm. Popular Brooklyn-based bhangra funk band Red Baraat and the great Cuban percussionist/singer Pedrito Martinez will be among the featured performers at the sixth annual Congo Square New World Rhythms Festival, in Armstrong Park. The Congo Square New World Rhythms Festival is one of the cultural enrichment events produced and presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation. This event showcases the music and culture of the African Diaspora, tracing the musical voyage from Africa to the Caribbean and the Gulf South. Free admission and for more info click here.

Happy Monday with the Clydesdales and Cops Plus Great Music!

Special Event - Horses, Hops and Cops!

Come meet the Budweiser Clydesdales tonight!!  All proceeds will benefit the N.O.P.D. Mounted Division. The event will take place at the N.O.P.D. Mounted Division’s Stables located at Harrison Avenue and Marconi Drive in City Park. Admission is FREE.  The Budweiser Clydesdales will be present for photos and other activities. Additionally, attendees can participate in a raffle to win a ride on the Budweiser wagon pulled by the Clydesdales during the Argus parade.
Food from Drago’s and Zatarain’s will be available for purchase at $5 per serving, along with beverages provided by Budweiser and Coke. Live music will be provided by The Yat Pack and The Hangovers.  Don't miss these beautiful horses!!

Monday Night Music!

Head on Uptown and enjoy some cocktails over at the Columns Hotel (3811 St. Charles)....Tonight David Doucet of BeauSoleil fame performs at 8:00 pm!

There's good times in Mid-City over at Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal).  They've got an amazing Monday night show with a solo performance from piano man  Jon Cleary at 8:00 pm!!

Lots of fun around Frenchmen Street!

Glen David Andrews is at d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen) for his Monday gig at 10:00 pm! So come on out and say hello, and enjoy the music!

To top off you're evening....you gotta go Uptown and over to the Maple Leaf (8316 Oak) for Papa Grows Funk at 10:00 pm - they'll get your Monday night funked up -remember there's a cover - but it's worth it!!!

A product of New Orleans rhythm and blues, Ernie Vincent has been on the music scene since the mid 1960's, playing r&b/funk and collaborating with the likes of Ernie K-Doe, King Floyd, Tommy Ridgley, Oliver Morgan, Irving Bannister, Eddie Bo, Jessie Hill and more!  And tonight the O BAR's specialty drink is The Rum Diary: After a sip or two of this mélange of Calypso Spiced Rum, coconut milk, simple syrup and a splash of a tropical fruit juice you will be ready to create a story or two!

Join us at 5:30PM to see the New Hope Baptist Dance Ministry, an LPO concert at 6PM, and a performance by the Creole Wild West Mardi Gras Indians at 7:15. This program is funded through ArtPlace.

Kick off Jazz Fest in style! Threadhead Records invites you to attend the 3rd Annual Threadhead Thursday at City Park tonight from 6 pm – 11 pm at the Robert B Haskel Outdoor Garden Stage in the New Orleans Botanical Garden at City Park. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and join us and some of our multi-talented THR artists for a magical night under the stars including Glen David Andrews, Paul Sanchez and the Rolling Road Show, The Honeypots, and The Creole String Beans!! The Live at Lafreniere Park Concert Series continues tonight at the Park Pavilion with the Bucktown Allstars at 6:00 pm. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, etc. and enjoy an evening of live music in the Park and best of all it is FREE!!

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden presents Honey island Swamp Band And be sure to head on over to the bar for;the O-Enchanted - a spritely concoction of vodka, club soda, rosemary-infused simple syrup and a splash of pear juice!

Parks, Trains, Pups and Seafood Celebrating!!

Head on down to City Park to celebrate their 100th birhday with Art Spark in the Park today from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the The Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn (Across from Storyland)it's Free and open to the public! The Great Lawn in City Park (across from Storyland)will sparkle with 100 Arts Market artists, elegant music, storytelling
and local cuisine to commemorate a century of fine art housed at NOMA!!

And you definitely want to check out SteamFest 2011 - The Original Audubon Park Steam Engine and last Louisiana-built locomotive, SP745returns for SteamFest2011 May 14th-15th from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm at The Riverview (The Fly) Kids Attractions, Music, Food & Fun, Model Trains,Ellsworth Maritime Steam Engine Exhibit Hosted by the Louisiana Steam Train Association Pay One Price $10, kids $5....There's gonna be a great musical line-up both days -

Today is the Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO) "Pup" Crawl...It's time to help out ARNO and drink with your pup!! You can bring your pooch on a pub crawl to live it up in UPTOWN...today!! Party animals interested in participating should visit http://www.animalrescueneworleans.org/ for more details. First 100 people to register will receive a t-shirt and one free shot at each participating location. Funds raised will benefit Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO), an all-volunteer organization created and dedicated to the rescue and aid of abandoned and homeless animals.  The cost is only $25 and additional donations are welcomed and appreciated.  DO IT FOR THE PUPS (and kitties!!)

And all weekend long it's the The Plaquemines Parish Seafood Festival celebrate the rich heritage of the people of Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana. Visitors will enjoy great local seafood and other unique, local food specialties. The festival offers continuous live music from popular local bands, and traditional Cajun music. Visitors will also enjoy crafts from local artisans, carnival rides, sandbagging contests, and the Seafood Queen Pageant.
