This one's pretty darn close to Mid-City - so if you're looking for some dinner and then some music for dessert  Rock 'N Bowl (3016 S. Carrollton) can help you out!  Get an entree' over at Ye Olde College Inn and then get a half price ticket to the show right next door at Rock N' Bowl....Tonight's gonna be groovin with the piano man Joe Krown at 8:30 pm - it's another fun night of rockin' and bowlin'!!

Celebratin' Tuesday with Veggies & Great Music!

Happy Tuesday Everybody!!

Special Events Today!

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm and pick up some fresh seafood, veggies and you can even grab some lunch!  La Divinia Gelateria is fixing up some great food each Tuesday in August at the Market.....on the menu today: Chilled zucchini-dill soup and herbed roast beef sandwiches with balsamic roasted onions and aged provolone on homemade ciabatta or Sicilian eggplant caponata washed down with fresh squeezed ginger lemonade. Their final sorbetto offerings are watermelon and hibiscus-lime.......yummy!!

The Trinity Artist Series continues tonight at Trinity Episcopal Church (1329 Jackson Ave.) with "Organ & Labyrinth" with Albinas Prizgintas on the 5000 pipe Trinity tracker organ. The program includes some of the greatest music ever written ranging from Classical Baroque to vintage rock and popular tunes. The concert is from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm and is FREE!

Good Music Tonight!

It's Open Mic Night over at the Rusty Nail (1100 Constance) with Whiskey T of Country Fried!  Get on stage, or just check out the local NOLA talent!  The fun starts up at 8:00 pm.

It's gonna be a great evening to hang out at the The Columns (3811 St. Charles Ave.)...Have a cocktail and listen to the amazing guitar playing of John Rankin and saxophonist Ray Moore at 8:00 pm...it's a lovely night for porch sippin'!

Head on over to Mid-City to Chickie Wah Wah's (2828 Canal) for a very special concert with Andre' Bohren - Andre's usually playing the drums for Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, but tonight he's tickling the ivories for a very special concert at 8:00 pm...be sure not to miss it, and come hungry for some Taceaux Loceaux too!!  (There might be a cover, but this show will be worth it - call 304-4714 for more details.)
There's a triple header over at the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) starting up at 4:00 pm with Brett Richardson, then stay on for Smokin' Time Jazz Club at 6:00 pm, and finish off the night with Meschiya Lake and Little Big Horns at 10:00 pm!!

End your night over at the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street...with  the REBIRTH Brass Band they come on around 10:30ish - there's a cover, but you'll be glad you paid and stayed up late!!

Remembering Katrina & Movin' Forward this Monday

Monday Monday...With the 6th Anniversary of Katrina today, there are a few events today and this evening.  Let us never forget, but also remember to move forward and show our love for our precious City!

This morning remember Katrina with the Surviving Katrina Memorial Event from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm (1826 Tennessee Street) in the Lower 9th Ward. The event will have music by The Big Nine Social Aid & Pleasure Club, Mardi Gras Indians and Sons of Jazz Brass Band.

This evening is the Unveiling of the Hurricane Katrina Memorial with a ceremony and second line with the Rebirth Brass Band. The second line starts up at 6:00 pm 900 Convention Center Blvd (cross street N. Diamond Street)and ends at 212 Loyola Street - The Saratoga Building. Please be there by 5:30 to meet and greet.

Monday Night Music

If you're Uptown - It's never too hot for some porch sippin' over at the Columns Hotel (3811 St. Charles)....It's David Doucet of Beausoleil fame at 8:00 pm tonight!

Head on down to Mid-City and to the Banks Street Bar (4401 Banks) about 10:00 pm for the N'awlins Johnnys and FREE red beans tonight!

And there's more Mid-City fun over at Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal)...with two excellent shows tonight.  The Vincedent kicks off at 6:00 pm with (no cover) and then at 8:30 it's Mark Growdon - solo ($8).  And of course come hungry - the Taceaux Loceaux is overflowing with yummy food!

And If you're lookin' for some bluegrass music tonight you don't have to go too far to find it....Check out the Hi Ho Lounge (2239 St. Claude) and the Bluegrass Pickin' Party at 8:00 pm...there's no cover and cheap and yummy red beans (veggie red beans too)! 

BMC (1331 Decatur) has a great early show at 5:00 pm with Fun in the Pocket featuring Mayumi Shara (drummer extraordinaire)...then stay on for the next show at 9:30 with Smoky Greenwell's Blues Jam!!

And two great shows at the Maison (508 Frenchmen) with the sultry sounds of Jayna Morgan and the Sazerac Sunrise Band at 7:00 pm, and The New Orleans Super Jam with Gene Harding at 10:00 pm.

Be sure to make a stop by the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) early for this great line-up of music....Brett Richardson at 4:00 pm, Dominick Grillo and The Frenchmen Street All Stars at 6:00 pm and be sure to stay on for the Jazz Vipers at 10:00 pm.....it's sure to be another smokin' Monday evening show.

Supportin' Reddy Teddy, The Healing Center and Remembering Katrina - 8/28/11

Happy Sunday Everbody!

Two very important events today - you don't want to miss either one!

The Reddy Teddy Benefit is at Big Al's Deckbar on Jefferson Hwy (across the street from Ochsner Hospital). The event kicks off at 10:00 am this morning with a brunch and acoustic set by Greg "Lil G" Rosary and friends.  At noon Oscar Caballero and the Blues Cats take over for a 12 hour open jam - with special guests to include - Monique D, Big Daddy Jeff Ruello, Jack Kolb, Harpo Guilder, Margie Perez, Art Johnson, Johnny Angel, Lynn Drurry, David Hyde, Ed Wills, Sandy Maillho, Peter Novelli, Eloise Davis, Velvet Voice Otis, Dr Guitar, Bull Durham, Harvey Berman, Terri Cranford aka Sticky T, Yvette Watkins, Paul Scali, Jan Clemmons, Austin Clemmons, Tyler Clemmons, Rocky Denny, Dr Bill Carlasile, LeRoy Freeman, Jeff Jones, Darrel White, Gregory “Lil G” Rosary, Maggie Havens, Cr Gruver, Glen Zugar, Joseph Crachiola, Thomas Walker, Guitar Lightnin Lee, Cranston Clements  - WOW!!!  (and I'm sure even some more surprise guests!!)

- At 8pm...the Swamp Daddies, Teddy's band is doing an hour and a half set, then we are going back to the late night jam.
- There will be raffles, auctions, pastries, Big Al is cooking...selling plates of food. All money raised will go to Teddy and his son, who has just moved here from New York in the last week to be with Teddy.

Come Celebrate the Grand Opening of the New Orleans Healing Center (2372 St. Claude Ave.). This long-planned community center opens with a day of activities, including arts, spirituality, health and sustainability panels, an art show, children's' activities, food, free samples, and music by Henry  Butler, John Boutte, Treme Brass Band, Mardi Gras Indians, Chuck Perkins and the Voices of the Big Easy and many others!! The fun starts off with a second line and ribbon cutting at 11:30 am and the events go on until 10:00 pm tonight - don't miss this special event!!

Tonight is the 6th Annual - Katrina Artistically Revisted at Canal Place Theatres.  It's an annual commemorative event held the Anniversary Eve of Katrina, in memory of those we lost and to honor those who survived.  This heart-touching evening of reverent entertainment begins with an art opening of Katrina photographs in the theatre lobby from 10:00 pm – 11:00 pm, by various award-winning photographers such as Ellis Joubert, III. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from the theatre cafe’ Gusto, as guests mingle and share their Katrina stories with others.  Following the art opening, the creative multi-media experience begins in the main theatre at 11:00 pm and continues on to 12:30 am (just past midnight). This Katrina experience includes live music performances by Armand St. Martin, Jay Chevalier and Steve Wulff, film shorts, poetry, book excerpts, and first responder oral stories, all presented through the eyes of the artists who survived Katrina.

More Sunday Music!

The Trinity Artist Series (1329 Jackson Ave.) continues this afternoon at 5:00 pm with a Katrina Memorial: "When The Levee Breaks" - ALBINAS Prizgintas plays "Classic Rock" on the magnificent 5000 pipe Trinity organ. This will truly be an amazing event in this beautiful church.

Le Bon Temp Roule' (4801 Magazine) has Chapter Soul featuring Calvin Johnson, Kirk Joseph & Kevin O'Day at 9:00 pm!

The Maple Leaf Bar (8316 Oak St.) has the Joe Krown Trio featuring Walter "Wolfman" Washington and Russell Batiste at 10:30 pm!

Celebratin' Some Mid-Summer Mardi Gras Madness Tonite! 8/27/11

Happy Saturday Everybody,

I hope you're diggin' in your costume pile for the Oak Street Mid-Summer Mardi Gras parade tonight!!

Let's see what's happenin' today!!

It's the Saturday Art Market at Palmer Park from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  The monthly open air festival of creativity hosted by the Arts Council of New Orleans features local artists,  good food and live music with Peter and Delia at 1:00 pm, followed by Band in a Pocket at 2:30.

Don't forget it's the Mid-Summer Mardi Gras with the Krewe of Oak.....the crowd meets up about 8:00 pm on Oak Street right in front of the Maple Leaf Bar.....This parade is more of a participant event, not really a spectator sport. Each year the parade is larger and more outrageous and is lots of FUN!  Be sure to wear a cool costume!!!  There's a post-party at the Maple Leaf afterwards, but it's invite only...so make other after parade fun plans by checking out the WWOZ livewire below.

Saturday Music (with no cover!)

Fun on River Road at the Rivershack Tavern (3449 River Road) - Christian Serpas at Ghost Town - CD Release Party at 9:30 pm.

Free Frenchmen Street fun at the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) - Luke Winslow-King at 3:00 pm, Panorama Jazz Band at 6:00 pm, Dominick Grillo and the Frenchmen Street All-Stars at 10:00 pm!

TGIF with Football Fun and Lots of Music!!

Hurray for Friday!!

And this is always a fun way to kick things off.  It's the weekly wine tasting over at Cork & Bottle (Orleans at Moss St.) - today they have a wine flight with wine picks from the C & B staff!  Come taste some great, affordable bottles today at the FREE tasting from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. 

And you can double your wine tasting fun!  Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Once you've tasted one of their excellent choices you'll be sure to be buy a bottle! 

The Where Y'Art? party is going on this evening over at the New Orleans Museum of Art starting at 5:30 pm with Gallery & Exhibition Tours, lots of fun activities and music!!  The event is FREE with museum admissions. $10 Adults, $8 seniors, students, active military, $6 children ages 17 to 7, children 6 and under are free.

The festivities begin at 8:00 pm with drink specials by Jack Daniel's and Abita Beer along with light party food donated by local favorites such as Superior Grill, Cook Me Somethin' Mister, and Theo's Pizza. The entertainment for the evening is BandCamp, a local cover band playing 80's music and other party favorites. Admission is $20 online pre-sale and $30 at the door.

Head on over to Chickie Wah Wah on Canal for their happy hour around the 5 o'clock hour and the music starts up at 9:00 pm with Bill Kirchen & Too Much Fun (cover $15)...and don't forget to come hungry cause they got yummy food going on in the kitchen!

A Thursday with Wine, Music and a Big Irish Party!!

Good morning everybody...one more day 'til the weekend...yea!!!

Need a little culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art - better known as Ogden after Hours.  The concert starts up at 6:00 pm. with Shannon McNally's earthy, bluesy and fresh voice.  Her unbridled approach to songwriting carries the great blues and blues/rock tradition on to new generations of fans......so come on down for some music, culture and fun..don't miss it!!

Go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with jazz pianist David Torkanowsky. The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

If you're looking for some wine to taste in a unique setting you need to head out to the New Orleans Fairgrounds from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for the first "Tastings at the Track - European Treasures" sponsored by Dorignacs.  Attendees will have the opportunity to taste a collection of reds, whites and sparkling gems from France, Germany, Italy and Spain.  This casual, reception style tasting will also feature a selection of cheeses and wine experts who will discuss and answer wine related questions.  Tickets are $25 per person and are available at Dorignac's (710 Veterans Blvd in Metairie). Tickets will be available at the door if the event is not sold-out.

Celebrate the Launch of the brand new website for the Irish Network in New Orleans tonight at Finn McCool's (3701 Banks) from 5:30 pm to 11:00 pm in beautiful Mid-City...There's gonna be free food free Guinness, Jameson cocktails, NOLA beer and Merlin wine.  Entertainment from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the students from the Joni Muggivan School of Irish Dance, and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. the New Orleans-based Irish roots rocker Danny Burns performs, and throughout the evening DJ Dylan O’Donnell (of NOLA Bulls fame) will spin tunes! Sponsored by the Irish Network of New Orleans - sign-up this evening to become a founding member!!

Monday Monday....with Music!!

Happy Monday Everybody!

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend...here's some good music to get your week off to a great start!

Monday Night Music

If you're Uptown - It's never too hot for some porch sippin' over at the Columns Hotel (3811 St. Charles)....It's David Doucet of Beausoleil fame at 8:00 pm tonight!

Head on down to Mid-City and to the Banks Street Bar (4401 Banks) about 10:00 pm for the N'awlins Johnnys and FREE red beans tonight!

And there's more Mid-City fun over at Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal)...with two excellent shows tonight.  The Vincedent kicks off at 6:00 pm with (no cover) and then at 8:30 it's Mark Growdon - solo ($8).  And of course come hungry - the Taceaux Loceaux is overflowing - their truck is down this week so you'll have to venture to Chickie's to get that crazy fix!

Sunday Fun at the Children's Museum & Show Some Support with Sunpie!

Happy Sunday Everybody!


It's a Target Free Sunday at the Louisiana Children's Museum (420 Julia) all day long from Noon to 5:00 pm!! Visit the Museum for FREE this Sunday, courtesy of Target. Participate in fun, physical activities beginning at 1:00 p.m. Watch the Red Shirt Brigade perform their Let's Move dance at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Plus, enjoy a special jump-rope performance at 2:45 p.m. Bring your dancing shoes and let's get fit together!

A benefit - Rock, Ride ’n’ Rescue, featuring musical entertainment by Sunpie Barnes, tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at Rock ’n’ Bowl Mid-City Lanes, 3000 S. Carrollton Ave. There's gonna be a silent auction with each organization sponsoring a table, bowling, cash bar and a lot of fun. The cost is $10 per person and tickets can be purchased in advance through each organization, which will keep those admission fees. Saturday Family Fun with the "O", the Hornets & Some Brass Bands!!

Happy Saturday and Geaux Saints!!!

Here's some Saturday Fun!!

It's fun time for everybody at the Ogden Family Fair today at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art (925 Camp St.) from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and it's FREE!!

There gonna be arts and crafts, as well as music, will keep all ages entertained at our own version of a Southern county fair. Crafts include: Hobby horses, watercolor painting, sunflowers sculptures, art scavenger hunt, fishing grab bag, animal creations, games, and more!
Entertainment includes:
10 a.m. New Orleans Suzuki Forum
11:15 a.m. Calliope Puppets
12:15 p.m. Young Audiences
1:15 p.m. Ogden Teen Docents Puppet Theater
2 p.m. Preservation Hall Jr. Brass Band

And there's more family fun at the New Orleans Arena for Hornets Family Fun Day!! The New Orleans Hornets host this fun day and Select-a-Seat event from Noon to 2:00 pm! The "behind the scenes" experience includes locker room tours, a chance for fans to take shots on the court and many other interactive opportunities for the entire family. In addition, Hugo and the Honeybees will be on-hand for pictures and autographs. Fans can interact with Hornets Lead Assistant Coach Randy Ayers, and assistant coaches Dave Hanners, James Borrego, Bryan Gates and Fred Vinson.The Hornets recently released their half-season plans for the 2011-12 season. The Dinerral Shavers Educational Fund will sponsor its 3rd Annual Back to School Extravaganza today at 1:00 pm over at the Treme Community Center (900 N. Villere). This event will be a free school supply giveaway targeted towards all New Orleans students, and will include food, music, entertainment, blood pressure screenings, cholesterol screenings, child health screenings, and much more for the youth of New Orleans. There also be great entertainment by The Hot 8 Brass Band, Free Agents Brass Band, To Be Continued Brass Band, Baby Boyz Brass Band, Black Leather Indians and there could be some special guests - so head on out there for an afternoon of fun!

The Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur) Free Concert Series continues today with Earphunk at 3:00 pm and Shamarr Allen 4:00 pm - you don't want to miss these two great shows - and be sure to purchase a CD while you're there!!

Saturday Night Fun!!

Help out your furry friends with some human fun at the Bow Wow Luau at the Eiffel Society (2040 St. Charles). There's gonna be a singles auction, dates with 24 eligible bachelors and bachelorettes will be available to the highest bidders. The fun starts at 6:00 pm and tickets are $20 and admission gets you a complimentary cocktail too. All this fun benefits the Humane Society of Louisiana - so go bid on a hot date and help out some pups and kitties!

Need a little more art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours.  The concert starts up at 6:00 pm with Camile Baudoin (The Radiators) on guitars along with David Doucet (Beausoleil) on guitars and ukulele, and Harry Hardin (Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes) on violin. They play what we call Living Room Music, the songs Camile sang and played with his family when he was growing up, along with some originals and instrumentals - don't miss it!!

Go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with John Autin!  The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

Thursday Night Music

Celebrate Music for a Good Cause - A Benefit for Malcolm and More!

Happy Sunday Everybody!

Head on over to Tipitina's (501 Napoleon) today for the Sunday Music Workshop - come play on Tip's world famous stage with Steve Masakowski, Chris Severin, & Johnny Vidacovich from 1:00 to 3:00 pm!! This program is FREE and open to the public, but is geared towards young musicians (please bring your own instruments).

Looking for somewhere cool to hang out, hear some great music and help someone out - then go on over to BMC (1331 Decatur) for a Benefit for Malcolm Westin - Malcolm is a musician and one of the best independent auto mechanics in town, however he's been unable to work over a year due to a serious health condition that requires multiple surgeries and long stays in the hospital.  Enjoy music by Mas Mamones with special guest Mas Mamones, also Alex McMurray, MrGo, and Ritmo Calypso all this music for a measly $15. cover plus $5 more to enter the raffle of 20 donated prizes (food, art, and more). All proceeds will help Mal and his family.  So come on out for a good cause, have some fun and give what you can for this great hard-working guy.

Head to the French Market Fare Program with Chef Marilyn Doucette of Meals from the Heart Cafe' at 2:00 pm.  The Market and Farm discusses local ingredients, urban farming practices, demonstrates how to use various products in creative ways, and how to preserve season produce.  So come on out and learn some fun stuff and go shopping in the French Market (located between Ursulines and Governor Nicholls Street) - what a fun way to spend your Sunday afternoon!!

Enjoy music in a beautiful setting at Trinity Episcopal Church (1329 Jackson) the Trinity Artist Series continues this evening at 5:00 pm. with the High Ground Drifters Bluegrass Band with Albinas Prizgintas, organ This concert is FREE and open to the public.

Looking for a romantic evening of a music?  Check out the
Summer Twilight Romance Series at the Jazz Back Porch at the N.O. Jazz National Historical Park Visitor Center (918 N. Peters) at 7:00 pm -  Harmoniemusik New Orleans continues a summer series of classical chamber music at the Back Porch, including trios, quartets, quintets and more.  Admission is FREE - but donations are accepted and appreciated.

If you're looking for more good things to do this evening head on over to the Hi-Ho Lounge (2239 St. Claude) for the 6t'9 SAPC Back to School Recruit! This is one of many, but most important? All are invited to join, and we ask everyone, even if you don't join? to PLEASE donate a backpack for kids! Each year, 6t'9 donates new or used (good condition) backpacks to school children! won't you please help us and donate too? The meeting will be from six ta nine, and krewe members will be on hand to discuss parades past, and how you can join up, and participate too! Each year this parade goes through the sixth ward to the ninth ward, and brings candy and more to children in neighborhoods! A fter Katrina, there was so much blight, that 6t'9 decided to bring the halloween experience to the neighborhoods! they roll from the sixth ward to the ninth, in halloween costumes, with bands, floats and more. One of the most anticipated parades for any child. They are the only parade to bring the bands through the neighborhoods, and the families come out in droves to join in the fun!  Each year they accept new members, and this year is no exception!

Bust Out Your Red Dress, Dirty Linen & Head out to the Quarter this Saturday!!

Good Morning Everybody!!

BIG SATURDAY EVENTS!!

If you're not already out there it's not too late to head down to the New Orleans Hash House Harrier's - Red Dress Run for lots of fun!! Get yourself down to Washington Square (Dauphine Sts at Frenchmen St.) NOW - with your best red dress on (boys and girls!) Registration is $75 and open from 9:00 am to Noon. The music begins with Chasing Daylight from 10 am to 11:30 pm, Blackened Blues from Noon to 1:30 pm and Dash Rip Rock from 2:00 pm to 1:30 pm...There's gonna be delicious lunch provided by Corky's at 1:30 too!! So get your red butt down there for some drinkin' and runnin' round the Quarter!!  (And remember your registration fee goes to great local charities all around NOLA!!)

After the Red Dress Run this evening....stay in the Quarter and bust out your dirty linen (from White Linen of course) for Dirty Linen Night (200 - 1000 Blocks of Royal St., 500 blocks of St. and St. Peter Streets, Jackson Square and Dutch Alley).  Art Galleries and shops open up for an extra special art stroll from 6:00 to 10:00 pm!!  More than 60 venues will be open with refreshments (of the liquor variety!)  The official Dirty Linen Night After Party takes place at 10:00 pm at the Royal House Oyster Bar (441 Royal) with music by Washboard Chaz Blues Trio and complimentary dirty martinis and hor d'oevres.  All this is fun is FREE so get your dirty up some linen and get yourself down there this evening!!!

Saturday Music!

If you're takin' a break from the Red Dress Run head on over to the Louisiana Music Factory for two great in-store shows...(great music and a/c!!)  with World Wide Zoo at 2:00 pm and Gypsy Elise at 3:00 pm...remember while you're there to pick up some great Louisiana music too!!

Not too far away you can stop by the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park Visitor Center (916 N.  Peters) for a FREE concert by the New Orleans Racketmakers from 2:00 to 3:00 pm!

The Historic New Orleans Collection (410 Chartres) has a special program of music this afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00 pm with Places and People in New Orleans Past: A Centennial Commemoration in Music Honoring Samuel Wilson Jr. - Samuel Wilson Jr. (1911-1993), noted preservationist, architect and architectural historian, was known as the "Dean of Architectural Preservation in New Orleans." In celebration of what would have been his 100th birthday, The Historic New Orleans Collection is presenting a FREE concert featuring soprano Thais St. Julien and pianist Peter Collins performing music reminiscent of New Orleans' past, which Wilson strove to protect throughout his career. A Thursday with Art, Music, Eating and Dancing!

Thursday Events

Don't miss out on the weekly wine tasting at Cork and Bottle (3700 Orleans ) about 5:00 pm in Mid-City and the tasting is free with some great choices to taste and purchase!  And be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more! 

Looking to get your art on this evening...well we have just the thing for you!!  It's  "Bottles and Brushes" at the Degas House (2306 Esplanade)!   Beginning at 6:30 PM, this one of a kind event provides artists and non-artists the opportunity to come and be inspired where Degas lived.  They’ll supply the paints, aprons, and brushes and  even one COMPLIMENTARY adult beverage.  All you need to bring is a little creativity and a positive attitude.  Come a little early and enjoy the social hour at 5:30 pm....Cost is $40 and for more info and reservations call (504) 821-5009 or email: info@degashouse.com.

Need a little more art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours.  The concert starts up at 6:00 pm with Ven Pa’ Ca a flamenco music and dance ensemble that is the result of the collaboration between artists John Lawrence (guitarist/musical director), Leticia Jimenez (dancer/percussionist), Rob Wagner (saxophonist) and David Sobel (percussionist). Ven Pa’ Ca has developed a unique voice that blends New Orleans’ rich musical customs with traditional Flamenco- don't miss it!!

Go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with Solid Harmony!  The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

Tonight you can Fight Crime with a Fork!!  Dine at one of the following locations and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the New Orleans Police & Justice Foundation!  Eat some food and help out.

Finale on the Point, Supportin' the Wetlands & Celebratin' w/ Music!

Tuesday with Veggies, Yappy Hour and Music!

Happy Tuesday Everybody!!

You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm and pick up some fresh seafood, veggies and you can even grab some lunch!  La Divinia Gelateria is fixing up some great food each Tuesday in August at the Market.....on the menu today: Chilled vichyssoise, slow roasted pork sandwiches with caramelized onion and fennel on homemade ciabatta, grilled peach salad over mixed greens with feta and pecans, and watermelon & hibiscus lime sorbetto for dessert......yummy!!

Hurray for Yappy Hour at Fetch Mid-City (3536 Toulouse)!!!  It's going to be a tail-wagging pawty for well-mannered canines and their human companions this evening from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.  There's a FREE wine tasting for humans by Cork & Bottle with Nibble gourmet cheeses from Whole Foods, and FREE doggie treats for the pups!!   You can also give Fido an Express Dog Wash for just $10 with proceeds going to SULA Foundation (American Pit Bull rescue group) - so come on out for a doggone good time!

The Trinity Artist Series continues tonight at Trinity Episcopal Church (1329 Jackson Ave.) with "Organ & Labyrinth" with Albinas Prizgintas on the 5000 pipe Trinity tracker organ. The program includes some of the greatest music ever written ranging from Classical Baroque to vintage rock and popular tunes. The concert is from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm and is FREE!

Good Music Tonight!

It's gonna be a great evening to hang out at the The Columns (3811 St. Charles Ave.)...Have a cocktail and listen to the amazing guitar playing of John Rankin at 8:00 pm...it's a lovely night for porch sippin'!

Enjoyin' Some Music on Monday!

Happy Monday Everybody!

Hope everyone had a fun Satchmo filled weekend...here's some good music to get your week off to a great start!

Monday Night Music

Stop by the Bombay Club (830 Conti) in the Quarter and enjoy the sounds of Amanda Walker at 7:00 pm, and then head on over to Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse (300 Bourbon - Royal Sonesta Hotel) for Bob French and the Original Tuxedo Band at 8:00 pm!!

If you're Uptown - It's never too hot for some porch sippin' over at the Columns Hotel (3811 St. Charles)....It's David Doucet of Beausoleil fame at 8:00 pm tonight!

Head on down to Mid-City and to the Banks Street Bar (4401 Banks) about 10:00 pm for the N'awlins Johnnys and FREE red beans tonight!

And there's more Mid-City fun over at Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal)...with two excellent shows tonight.  The Vincedent kicks off at 6:00 pm with (no cover) and then at 8:30 it's Mark Growdon - solo ($8).  And of course come hungry - the Taceaux Loceaux is overflowing - their truck is down this week so you'll have to venture to Chickie's to get that crazy fix!

And If you're lookin' for some bluegrass music tonight you don't have to go too far to find it....Check out the Hi Ho Lounge (2239 St. Claude) and the Bluegrass Pickin' Party at 8:00 pm...there's no cover and cheap and yummy red beans (veggie red beans too)! 

BMC (1331 Decatur) has a great early show at 5:00 pm with Fun in the Pocket featuring Mayumi Shara (drummer extraordinaire)...then stay on for the next show at 9:30 with Smoky Greenwell's Blues Jam!!

And two great shows at the Maison (508 Frenchmen) with the sultry sounds of Jayna Morgan and the Sazerac Sunrise Band at 7:00 pm, and The New Orleans Super Jam with Rue Fiya at 10:00 pm.

Be sure to make a stop by the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) early for this great line-up of music....Brett Richardson at 4:00 pm, Dominick Grillo and The Frenchmen Street All Stars at 6:00 pm and be sure to stay on for the Jazz Vipers at 10:00 pm.....it's sure to be another smokin' Monday evening show.
