TIGIF! with an Art Extravaganza, Wine, and Plenty of Music!

Hurray for Friday!!

There's an amazing Art Extravaganza this evening over at Floor and Decor Designer's Outlet (2801 Magazine) featuring artists Michael Fedor, Pat Jolly, Steven Lindsley, Michele Benson Huck, Kat Walker, Natalie A. Hutzler, Trina Davis and Patrick Perret - View and purchase works in glass, found objects, drawing, paint, photography, pottery and sculpture.  Enjoy complimentary food and drink and music by the Kat Walker Jazz trio with Bart Ramsey on piano and Spike Perkins on bass!

And this is always a fun way to kick things off.  It's the weekly wine tasting over at Cork & Bottle (Orleans at Moss St.) - today they have a wine flight with wine picks from the C & B staff!  Come taste some great, affordable bottles today at the FREE tasting from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Check out the selection:

The Where Y'Art? party is going on this evening over at the New Orleans Museum of Art starting at 5:30 pm with Gallery & Exhibition Tours, lots of fun activities and music!!  The event is FREE with museum admissions. $10 Adults, $8 seniors, students, active military, $6 children ages 17 to 7, children 6 and under are free.

Head down to the French Quarter for happy hour and stop by the Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur) for an in-store concert at 7:00 pm with Bad Beth and Beyond...it's going to be a fun show, and be sure to pick up a CD while you're there!

You say - you still don't know what to do??? 
Head on over to Chickie Wah Wah on Canal for their happy hour around the 5 o'clock hour and the music starts up at 7:00 pm with the Voodoo Blues Krewe...and don't forget to come hungry cause they got yummy food going on in the kitchen!

And there's more good music in Mid-City (almost Uptown) over at Rock 'N Bowl (3016 S. Carrollton) it's The Bucktown Allstars at 9:30 pm!!  Remember if you eat at Ye Olde College Inn right next door you get a discount to the show!  Happy rockin' and bowlin'!

If you're looking for the total brass band funky experience then you got to go to Banks Street Bar and Grill (4401 Banks) for Egg Yolk Jubilee's Big Summertime Show at 10:30 pm and there's no cover!!...It's a FREE show and you'll be glad you came!!

Need more music??  Then go to Frenchmen Street!

You can get started early at the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) with Brett Richardson at 4:00 pm, Washboard Chaz Blues Trio at 6:00 pm, and Cottonmouth Kings at 10:00 pm.

Stop by Mojitos Rum Bar & Grill (437 Esplanade - corner of Frenchmen) for some excellent margaritas and some great music all afternoon and evening long with Alex Bossworth at 4:00 pm, Eudora Evans and Deep Soul tonight at 7:00 pm, Fredy Omar con su Banda at 10:30 pm!!

Right down the street you have another trio of shows at BMC (1331 Decatur)...with El DeOrazio & Friends at 3:00 pm, Moonshine and Caroline at 7:00 pm, and Dana Abbot Band at 10:00 pm!

d.b.a.'s (618 Frenchmen) got the The Hot Club of New Orleans at 6:00 it's FREE, but don't forget to tip the band!!  And stay on for The Pine Leaf Boys at 10:00 pm...there's a $5 cover, but you don't want to miss the Boys!!

Wine, Craft Mafia & the King of Surf Rock - Tonite!

Don't miss out on the weekly wine tasting at Cork and Bottle (3700 Orlenas ) about 5:00 pm in Mid-City and tasting is free with these great samples.....2009- Silver Palm- Chardonnay, 2009- Franciscan- Sauvignon Blanc, 2008- Estancia- Cabernet Sauvignon, and a 2009- Estancia - Pinot Noir!!  And be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more! 

Please join the New Orleans Craft Mafia in celebrating their 6th birthday on tonight at Du Mois Gallery (4921 Freret Street) from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  This party is free and open to the public and will include drinks and snacks, crafts, fun, and camaraderie.  A gift basket of handmade products will also be given as a door prize to one lucky guest.

Need a little culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art - better known as Ogden after Hours.  The concert starts up at 6:00 pm. with Sarah Quintana an up and coming New Orleans jazz vocalist with a distinct French influence in her work, Sarah puts on an unforgettable performance...so come on down for some music, culture and fun (and you're going to want to try the signature drink for June - "The Porch Punch" it is 'um 'um good!!

Go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with New Orleans Moonshiners and Cristina Perez. The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

Good Music Tonight!!

The Columns Hotel (3811 St. Charles Ave.) has Freddy Omar at 8:00 pm...come out to enjoy some fantastic Latin music!!

Head on over to Frenchmen Street and to d.b.a (618 Frenchmen) for an amazing double header with piano player extraordinaire Jon Cleary at 7:00 pm, and the sultry sounds of Shannon McNally at 10:00 pm (there may be a small cover - but it's worth the money!)
More fun on Frenchmen Street with Soul Project at 10:00 pm over at Cafe' Negril (606 Frenchmen).

And if you got some money tucked away for a great show...the Howlin' Wolf (828 S. Peters) has what you need with some rockin' surfin' music with the King of Surf Rock -  Dick Dale!!....this is a show you're not going to want to miss (tickets are $17 in advance and $20 at the door - click the link above for more info)!!

It's a Bead Puppies Party Tonight!!!

Happy Hump Day Everybody!

Get your Mardi Gras off with a "bark" with BEAD PUPPIES!!  The Louisiana SPCA is unveiling Paws on Parade, a new public art project, today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the W New Orleans. The art display includes 58 of the iconic Haydel’s Bakery Mardi Gras Bead Dogs, each sponsored by a local company and decorated by a local artist, to raise awareness of animal welfare. Title artist Alex Beard will be in attendance today. The Mardi Gras Bead Dogs will be on display until June 2012.


After bead puppies - Mid-City is kickin' with lots of great music!

Go by Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) for some greta food and the Tex-Mex sounds of the Iguanas at 8:30 pm!  What a fun night!

Head on down to Banks Street Bar and Grill (4401 Banks) around 10ish for the sounds of Major Bacon and some tasty FREE BLTs!!

Go back to the '90s at Bayou Park Bar (542 S. Jeff Davis) when Grunge Jazz Trio hits the stage with freestyle (you guessed it!) Grunge around 9:00 pm.

Or hang out on Frenchmen!

Check out Three Muses (536 Frenchmen) and Support Sweet Home New Orleans as they bring you some Traditional Jazz at 7:00 pm....Sweet Home N.O. has been helping to revitalize the damage suffered by musicians and other contributors to New Orleans’ cultural heritage since 2005.

There's another great evening full of music at the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) with free swing dance lessons at 5:00 p.m.!!  Brett Richardson at 4:00 p.m., The Orleans 6 at 6:00 p.m., and to top off the night St. Louis Slim & The Frenchmen Street Jug Band at 10:00 p.m.!

d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen) has two fun show tonight with The Tin Men at 7:00 and Walter Wolfman Washington and the Roadmasters at 10:00 pm!!

Celebrate Tuesday with the Arts and Music!

Happy Tuesday Everybody,

Good Stuff Tonight!

The Windsor Court holds a monthly Artist Showcase series, featuring local artists and including a monthly reception for the artist. The artist spotlighted this month is Louisianan Rebecca Rebouché, who describes her style as “contemporary folk art”...it features whimsical images that are simple yet powerful.  The reception tonight is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and will have complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeurves. RSVP by calling 522-1994.

It's gonna be a lovely evening to hang out on the porch at The Columns (3811 St. Charles Ave.)...Have a cocktail and listen to the musical stylings of John Rankin & Friends and watch the streetcars go by!

For more music fun....come on down to Chickie Wah Wah on Canal Street to enjoy the amazing John Mooney!!  Music starts about 8:00 pm, but come out early for happy hour starting up at 4:00 pm with $1.00 off drinks and the kitchen opens up at 5:00 pm too!!

There's a triple header over at the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) starting up at 4:00 pm with Brett Richardson, then stay on for Smokin' Time Jazz Club at 10:00 pm, and finish off the night with Meschiya Lake & The Little Big Horns at 10:00 pm!!

If you're lookin' for some Rockin' and Bowlin' and some good food too...Have some dinner over at Ye Olde College Inn..where you'll get some yummy food and a discounted ticket to Rock 'N Bowl...right next door!!  It's Walrus tonight with some Beatles inspired music...the show gets kickin' about 8:30 pm.

You need to go by the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street for the early show.  Cluck! Nite featuring Three Piece Spicy + Creole Cookin' (with some FREE food)...and make sure you stay up late for the REBIRTH!!  You'll be glad did!

Decadence, the Dome and No Dead Artists!

Good Morning Everybody,

Well if you didn't remember...it's Southern Decadence in the French Quarter all weekend long.  You can definitely have some free fun with your favorite party beverage while cruising up and down Bourbon for some crazy sights and good times...if you've never been...you need to go...it's a festive Gay Mardi Gras in September!!!  And make sure you stay on for the THE BOURBON STREET EXTRAVAGANZA, it's a FREE concert, on Bourbon and St. Ann starting up at 5:00 pm!!  This year's stars are Deborah Cox, Kimberly Lock, Jeanie Tracy and Erika Jayne (all appearing courtesy of the Bourbon Pub!) and the voice of Pride Winner, Damian Faul...be in the Quarters this evening for the fun!!

If Southern Decadence is not your thing you probably want to head down to the Dome for the Saints pep rally!!!  Sean Payton and Drew Brees lead the Pep Rally at Champions Square today!!  Fans are invited to celebrate the upcoming Saints season with a Believe Again Bash and it's FREE!!!!!  There gonna be music, food  and fun....check out the entertainment line-up!!

Are you searching for your forever friend, but live in a small space....then this is the event for you!!  "Puppies & Pinot" is a dog adoption featuring "condo-size" canines and a wine & cheese event  from 11am to 3pm at the Cotton Mill Condominiums (920 Poyefarre St.-Entertainment Room)...This adoption party is sponsored by the St. Francis Animal Sanctuary...so come on down and find your cute pup!!!

And if you're looking for art and culture this evening you don't want to miss out on the 14th Annual No Dead Artists National Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Art from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery (400 Julia St.).......The exhibition opens tonight with an artists' reception...Each year the show draws thousands of art enthusiasts and focuses attention on an emerging generation of contemporary artists that are poised to breakthrough into the greater art world!  And be sure to walk around the Warehouse District this evening for even more art gallery openings - it's an Art Walk!!
