It's Day No. 2 At the Fest...Below is the next installment of Bill's Tips and Picks for the Day!!

Jazz Fest Tips – Take time to check out the amazing indigenous art in the Folk Crafts Area. When you have nothing on your music schedule, go to the Fais Do Do Stage. When you need to get out of the sun and sit down a minute, hit the Gospel Tent, although not sure how long you will be able to stay in your seat. And number one tip is to master the “walk by”; face it, there is too much truly fabulous music, so “walk by” and check out an act for 10 minutes or so as you make your way to another mind-blowing destination. Everyone have a great day and enjoy the world’s greatest music and heritage festival!

Jazz Fest Picks - Day 2 is strong in Louisiana talent – and Grammys, in fact nobody makes the cut for non-Louisiana pick of the day.  Shannon McNally & Hot Sauce (11:20 Gentilly) – Best skin in show business. Savoy Center of Eunice Cajun Jam (12:40 Fais Do Do) – Saturday morning in Eunice comes to N. O.  Wayne Toups & Zydecajun (1:40 Acura) – Louisiana pick of the day.  Don Vappie & the Creole Jazz Serenaders (1:45 Economy Hall) – Learn what Creole Jazz is.  Midnight Disturbers (1:55 Jazz & Heritage) – Another Stanton Moore all-star jam.  Pine Leaf Boys (3:00 Fais Do Do) – 4 time Grammy nominees.  Irma Thomas (3:05 Acura) – Hope the Soul Queen of N. O. does not get booed by Bon Jovi Fans.  Emeline Michel (3:35 Congo) – Haitian girl singer.  John Boutte’ (4:05 Jazz Tent) – Good luck getting a seat for this one.  Ricky Scaggs (4:20 Fais Do Do) – Multi-instrumentalist with 14 Grammys.  Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience (6:00 Fais Do Do) – Winner of the very first Cajun-Zydeco Grammy.

Good Morning Everybody,

So much going on this Thursday...what's happenin' today??

Don't miss out on the weekly wine tasting at Cork and Bottle (3700 Orleans) about 5:00 pm in Mid-City and tasting is free!!  And be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more! 

Need a little culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art - better known as Ogden after Hours.  The concert starts up at 6:00 pm. with David Torkanowsky's B3 quartet w/ Roderick Paulin and Wendell Brunious ....so come on down for some music, culture and fun....don't miss it!!

Tonight is Fortier Fest in Fortier Park (Esplanade at Mystery St.)...The fun starts at 6:00 pm with Walter "Wolfman" Washington, Tony Green and Allen Toussaint!!  There's going to be great food from Cafe' Degas, Cansecos, Terranova's (just to name a few), a silent auction, and of course lots good times for all!!

Go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series for Tony Green and his gypsy jazz (wow, he's everywhere tonight)!!! The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

Are you hungry for some great music, dancing and food....then head on over to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) from 6:00 to -7:00 pm advanced lindy hop lesson w/ Giselle Anguizola & Chance Bushman, 7:00 to -8:00 pm all levels swing dance lesson w/ Mariela & Gabriel and from 8:00 to -10:00 pm it social dancin' with Raphael Bas and Don Vappie (dance lessons $5 - band cover $8).....see you tonight for some dancing !!!

Need crawfish?  You can get your crawfish cravin' fixed this evening at Maison Frenchmen on Frenchmen Street (of course) tonight at 7:00 pm!  Bar patrons can load up on crawfish for the low low price of $5 a pound and don't forget about the $5 pitchers!  And of course FREE live music all night long with Those Peaches at 5:00 pm, David Mahoney Quartet at Thursday April 14 at 7:00 pm and top off the night with Magnetic Ear at 10:00 pm!!!

Good Morning Everybody,

I'm dedicating this last day of festing to food!!!

It IS the last day of French Quarter Fest and if you haven't tried all the yummy food you better get working on it!!  So far I've had the Dickie Brennan's roast beef sammich, turtle soup from Court of Two Sisters, vaucresson sausage, fish taco from GW Fins, and the smoked crawfish po-boy from Red Fish Grill...I better get out there soon, cause I got a lot mo' eating to do!!

Today is the first day of French Quarter Fest, and today is locals day...so sneak out of work and head on down to the biggest free festival in the South!!  Head to Jackson Square around noon for the world's largest brunch and some amazing music...then cruise down to the River around 3ish when the music gets crankin' over there!  Click on the link for all the music, food and fun info!

Friday Festin'!!!

There's sooo much going on this weekend - I wish I could be in two places at once!!

The Louisiana Crawfish Fest is kickin' in Chalmette, and the fun starts up tonight at 6:00 pm and all weekend long. There's going to be plenty of amazing food, music and you can ride the rides for one low low price!! Click on the link for all the info!!!

Lookin' to hang out on the Bayou and enjoy some lovely wine and beautiful weather...then go no further than the Pitot House on Moss Street for Vino on the Bayou tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 pm!!  This event is always a great way to kick off the evening. Hangin' in the Quarter this beautiful evening?  Well then you have to head over to the French Market for the Fridays in the French Market music series where the fun gets started at 4:00 pm!!  The series starts with the award-winning Honey Island Swamp Band (Voted Best Roots Rock Artist 2010 by Offbeat Magazine) with special guests members of Bonerama and Walter Wolfman & the Roadmasters. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs and enjoy the concert "festival-style".   Remember it's always festival time at the French Market!!

There's good times at the New Orleans Museum of Art this evening with Where Y'Art from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm, it's FREE and all events will be in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden!

The New Orleans Roadfood Fest gets kicked off this evening with a really big party!!  It's the Kickoff Party with Oysters, Cocktails 'n' Cracklin's - tonight from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum (Julia Street Entrance of the RiverWalk).....It's a party where festival chefs and foodies from around the country have a chance to talk about food, enjoy oysters on the half shell, hot cracklin's and hors d'oeuvres, and partake of an open bar featuring local cocktails!!  Admission to the museum is included in the price of a ticket, which is $50, including food and drinks.

Be sure to head on down to Hamp Fest tonight with ConFunkShun + Michael Ward + Kermit Ruffins from 6:00 pm to midnight at Saint Augustine High School.....The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation is a co-sponsor of the Edwin Hampton Music Festival.  As part of the Foundation's Jazz Journey series of tributes to important figures in New Orleans music, an all-star group of New Orleans jazz artists will perform at the festival.  The event honors the legacy of Edwin Hampton, who founded the St. Augustine "Marching 100" and was its band director for more than 50 years.  Proceeds from "Hamp Fest" will help to provide scholarship funds for needy applicants to St. Augustine, which was founded in 1951 as a Catholic high school for African-American males.  Tickets to Hamp Fest may be purchased online at http://www.purpleknights.com/. And if you're in the mood for some art....be sure to check out Postcards from New Orleans from 6:00pm - 10:00pm at The Front (4100 St Claude Ave.)....The show includes works by Artists: Jessica Goldfinch, Dan Tague, Alex Podesta, Chris Jahnke, Maxx Sizeler, Srdjan Loncar, Laura Gipson, Rachel Jones, Monica  Zeringue and Aaron McNamee.  For ten years, the University of New Orleans and the City of Innsbruck  have held an annual artist exchange. Every summer a few graduating  UNO, MFA students are granted a show in old-town Innsbruck, and every academic year, a few Austrian artists mount a show at the UNO Fine  Arts Gallery. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of this international event, UNO Fine Arts Chair and Exhibitions Director Christopher Saucedo organized a show of ten New Orleans based artists who have participated in this exchange over the years and bundled them together into a exhibition that opened on July 5th at Galerie im Andechshof. Saucedo intended that the show would convey, to the Innsbruck audience, an aesthetic of tourist's snapshots of the dynamic and unique, visual voice of our home town.  The exhibition has now traveled back to New Orleans and will be on view at The Front from September 11th until October 3rd.

At Rock 'N Bowl (3016 S. Carrollton) tonight it's a tribute to our first responders out there with a concert by The Boogie Man and The Wise Guys starting up at 9:30 pm.....All first responders get FREE admission to the show tonight so go out there, have some fun and show your support!!!

If you're looking to celebrate going back to school....or just forget about it for one more night...Head on down to Tipitina's (501 Napoleon) for Gravity A's Back 2 School Bacchanal with The Trio (featuring Johnny Vidacovich, George Porter Jr., and June Yamagishi) plus Gravity A featuring special guests Tim Green, Danny Abel, and Billy Iuso!!!

In honor of Bastille Day, New Orleans will join cities around the world in hosting a waiters race, a tradition started in Paris in the early 20th century to recognize the waitstaff profession. Coined "VIVE LA FRANCE, VIVE LA SEAFOOD!" the race serves as a celebration of the New Orleans local restaurant andseafood industries. The public is encouraged to attend and cheer on waiters as they make their way down Decatur Street from St. Ann Street to Ursulines Street.  The race begins at 4 p.m. on Decatur Street at St.  Ann (near Café du Monde).  Waiters will register at Washington Artillery Park across from Jackson Square, where they will be fitted with an apron, napkin, waiters tray, and plastic wine glasses filled with water. Waiters will need to adhere to strict rules as they carry their tray in a straight shot down Decatur Street to Ursulines, just past the Joan of Arc statue, where the race ends...You don't want to miss this one!!

Bastille Day Saturday

Happy Saturday!

It's City Park's Blessing of the Fleet.  The ceremony begins at 11:00 am with an official blessing from Deacon Robert Normand.  Following will be a celebration with FREE bike and boat rides until 1:00 pm.  This event is FREE and open to the public.

Joy Ride Bike Rentals, a locally owned company, is joining forces with City Park to bring guests the option of bicycling throughout the park.  Also added to the line-up is NOLA Gondola, offering relaxing and romantic gondola rides. Bicycles will be rented during the existing boating hours of operation: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 am - 7:00 pm.  Gondola rides will be offered from 1:00 pm - 10:00 pm, Wednesday through Sunday (subject to heat, wind or severe weather).  Visitors to the area surrounding Big Lake can also find Williams-Plum Snowballs shaving ice every Saturday and Sunday.

Make sure to head down to the Louisiana Music Factory  (210 Decatur) for the Free Concert Series...with the Turnip Greens  at 2pm and Wilson & Moore 3pm...this is always a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!!

It's a Friday night happy hour at Chickie Wah Wah tonight with the Pfister Sisters at 5:30 pm with no cover charge!!  Then stay on for Threadhead Paul Sanchez at 8:00 pm for a super fun evening!

You can get your evening started off right with a little wine tasting and art opening at Swirl (3143 Ponce de Leon) with the Friday Free for All from 6 to 8:00 pm.   July's show features the collaborated efforts of fused glass artist Paulette M. Lizano of Lizano’s Glass Haus and wood artist David C. Porretto of DCP Designs and their colorful unique word signs.  Karen Stone will be on hand pouring 4 old word picks and Chef Dan Esses will be dishing out his infamous tapas plates for $5.

If you're thinking about heading down to Frenchmen Street...there's lot of music to hear!

d.b.a.'s (618 Frenchmen) has two bands tonight that will get you up and dancing...you got the Hot Club Of New Orleans at 6:00 and stay on for The Iguanas at 10:00 pm!
Right down the street you have another trio of shows at BMC (1331 Decatur)...with Fun in The Pocket featuring Mayumi Shara and Reinaldo at 7:00 pm, Fredy Omar con su Banda at 10:30 pm, Medianoche International at 12:30 am...(hey, now it's Saturday mornin'!)

Head on down to the Maison (508 Frenchmen) at 7:30 for Some Like it Hot...and you'll appreciate the great drinks and the NO COVER and stay on for the late show with Izzy and Hesstronics at 10:00 pm!

And for those of you hanging out Uptown don't forget it's Free Fridays at Tipitina's (504 Napoleon Ave.) with Gal Holiday & The Honky Tonk Revue and Country Fried...show starts up about 10ish...it's gonna be good one!

Be sure to find your favorite watering hole this afternoon to watch the USA soccer team kick Ghana today at 1:30 pm!!

The best and brightest of the Hot Sauce and Gourmet Food community will be displaying and sampling their award winning products right here in the heart of Hot Sauce Country – the place where people sure know their food. There’s gonna be party going on down here!!!! With the Saints winning the Super Bowl, the Who Dat Nation is alive and kickin’ so come join the food and fun at the 1st Annual NOLA Hot Sauce and Gourmet Food Show.  There will be products to suite everyone.  If you want to take on the hottest thing you have ever tried, this will be the place for you ranging from sauces and other products made from the hottest pepper in the world to flaming hot extracts, come give it a try – if you dare. We will also have BBQ sauces, dip mixes, seasonings, soup and cajun mixes and so much more.  Tickets are just $5.00 and the fest goes on this Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 to 5:00 pm at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner....AYEEEEEEEEE.!!!!

It's also the Arts Market of New Orleans at Palmer Park (corner of S. Claiborne and S. Carrollton from 10 am to 4:00 pm today!!  Free and open to the public!  Whether you're looking for metal art by Travis Linde, traditional  handmade belts by Bob Friedrich of Crescent Belt, or a "Trish Fish"  made of recycled materials by debris artist Trish Ransom this month's  Arts Market of New Orleans has something for everyone. Choose from glass, metal, wood and leather art  to paintings, photographs, yard decor and more created by more than  100 of the region's best artists. Plus live music, food and drink from  your favorite local restaurants, and exciting and educational kid's activities.

 It's the Summer Wine Festival...tonight at Canal Place..It's "Everything French" hosted by the French American Chamber of Commerce.  There will be fifteen local restaurants and plenty of libations from 6:00 to 9:00 pm tonight!  Tickets are $45 for members and $55 for non members..it promises to be a wonderful evening!
