It's a Wonderful Wednesday!!

Happy Hump Day Everybody!

The weather is beautiful, and there's lots of great stuff going on this afternoon and tonight!!

It's a Wonderful Wednesday in the Faubourg St. John!!  The merchants are hosting an evening of local art openings where you can meander from business to business, viewing cool local art, sample a little cheese and light food and enjoy our fabulous spring weather (Esplanade and Ponce de Leon).  Swirl is showing the colorful New Orleans themed work of Shaun Aleman in combination with “in nola words”.  Cafe Degas and Nonna Mia will be holding openings as well and please stop by Fair Grinds to check out “Gluttony” (this is not an opening, the show is already in progress). 

And while you're out there have dinner at Santa Fe' Restaurant (3201 Esplanade) and check out the silent auction.  You can help out Nuf-Nuf the dog with his vet bills.  He was hurt badly in a hit and run accident...a portion of tonight's dinner and auction proceeds will go to help him out :)



There's gonna be a block party tonigh from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.!!  It's the Naked Entrepeneur Experience - on Girod between Magazine and Camp...come celebrate your inner entrepeneur with vendors from around the City and music by Shamar Allen and the Underdawgs!!

Start off your evening with the early show over at dba (618 Frenchmen)....Leeroy Stagger gets things kickin' at 7:00 pm....and then stay on for Walter "Wolfman" Washington & The Roadmasters at 10:00 pm it's gonna be a fun one!!

Go by Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) for happy hour with Olive String Band at 5:00 pm, and stay on for the the Tex-Mex sounds of the Iguanas at 8:30 pm...go on and dance the night away!

Looking for some dinner and then some music?  Rock 'N Bowl (3016 S. Carrollton) can help you out!  Get an entree' over at Ye Olde College Inn and then get a half price ticket to the show right next door at Rock N' Bowl....Keep on dancin' with Johnny Angel and the Swingin' Demons tonight at 8:30 pm!

Another great evening full of music at the Spotted Cat with Brett Richardson at 4:00 p.m., The Orleans 6 at 6:00 p.m., and to top off the night St. Louis Slim & The Frenchmen St. Jug Band at 10:00 p.m.!

It's a Bead Puppies Party Tonight!!!

Get your Mardi Gras off with a "bark" with BEAD PUPPIES!!  The Louisiana SPCA is unveiling Paws on Parade, a new public art project, today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the W New Orleans. The art display includes 58 of the iconic Haydel’s Bakery Mardi Gras Bead Dogs, each sponsored by a local company and decorated by a local artist, to raise awareness of animal welfare. Title artist Alex Beard will be in attendance today. The Mardi Gras Bead Dogs will be on display until June 2012.

Go by Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) for some greta food and the Tex-Mex sounds of the Iguanas at 8:30 pm!  What a fun night!

Head on down to Banks Street Bar and Grill (4401 Banks) around 10ish for the sounds of Major Bacon and some tasty FREE BLTs!!

Go back to the '90s at Bayou Park Bar (542 S. Jeff Davis) when Grunge Jazz Trio hits the stage with freestyle (you guessed it!) Grunge around 9:00 pm.

What's happenin' this Friday night??  Lots!!

There's some great music for a great cause tonight! It's the Kipp Believe College Prep Benefit Concert starting up at 5:30 at Tulane University's - McAlister Hall. The performance includes local legend Deacon John, along with the Believe Symphonic and Jazz Bands. It's going to be a great concert and tickets are only $5!!!

If you're looking for a couple of wine tastings after work....head on down to Cork & Bottle (3700 Orleans) at around 5ish for some great wines....then make your way over to Swirl (3143 Ponce de Leon) at about 6 for another round of wine tasting, and check out their tapas bar too for some great food!!

After you get your wine on...There's lots more good music going on tonight!!

Head on over to Chickie Wah Wah on Canal for their happy hour with Wilson & Moore at 5:30, then stay on for Paul Sanchez at 8:00, and The Ramblin' Letters String Band at 10:00...what a fun way to spend your Friday evening...and don't forget to come hungry cause they got yummy food going on in the kitchen!

Celebrate Valentine's Day a little early with a FREE operatic performance of some "Sweet Songs and Sweet Treats" by vocalists from the New Orleans Opera Association for a very special Opera on Tap at The Inn On Bourbon's Puccini Bar (541 Bourbon) tonight at 7:00 pm!   The Inn On Bourbon is located at the site of the French Opera House (1859-1919) and continues to celebrate its history with the live performance series.  Special $5 parking at The Inn On Bourbon is extended to all guests attending the performances.

Here's the Thursday fun stuff going on today!!

Thursday Events

Looking for some free wine to taste??   Stop by Cork and Bottle around 5:00 pm in Mid-City, and be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more!

It's a big show at the Ogden this evening!! The Ogden Southern Museum of Art better known as Ogden after Hours starts up at 6:00 pm with the REBIRTH Brass Band and Cheeky Blakk!!  So come on down for some music, culture, fun and the "O" bar will be serving some yummy Mojitos!! (remember if you get down there early - go grab a cocktail at the Circle Bar on Lee's Circle...one of the best happy hours in town!)

Go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with Lars Edegrain and the New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra! The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

You can help out your four legged friends tonight by simply going out to eat!  The Louisiana SPCA's Pause for Dinner is pairing up with highly recognized restaurants from around Greater New Orleans to raise money for animal welfare in our region while attracting patrons and new clients to their business.  Participating in this event is SIMPLE- just eat dinner at one of the listed restaurants. Every restaurant is donating 20% of their dinner proceeds to the Louisiana SPCA!

In addition, The George Rodrigue Foundation for the Arts (GRFA) is offering a new Blue Dog print at each participating restaurant for silent auction. The silkscreen print, titled The Three Amigos, is not available to the general public, and is only available to non-profit organizations for fundraising purposes. Proceeds will be divided between the LA/SPCA and GRFA.
