Celebratin' Thursday with Some Pre-Satchmo Fest Fun!

Good morning everybody...one more day 'til the weekend...alleluia!!!

Kick off your Satchmo Fest celebratin' with a FREE in-store concert over at the Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur)!  It's The Kid Chocolate Quartet with special guest Davell Crawford at 3:00 pm! You don't want to miss this one - and be sure to buy a CD while you're there!

Celebrate some more with a little culture and music.  Head on over to the concert at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art - better known as Ogden after Hours.  The music starts up at 6:00 pm. with Big Daddy 'O'.   For more than 30 years, Big Daddy ‘O’ has been playing in roadhouses and bars in the Delta area near the Louisiana/Mississippi border. Rabadash Records "discovered" Big Daddy 'O' playing at Betty’s Bar in Amite, Louisiana in 2000. Now a decade and three critically acclaimed CDs later, Big Daddy ‘O’ is finally reaching a national audience........so come on down for some music, culture, food, fun and my hubby, Bill deTurk, will be doing the in depth interview so you don't want to miss it!!And don't forget to try out this month's signature drink the "O Gimlet" it is really good!

Go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with Paul Soniat - his songs will have you singing and laughing the evening away!  The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out so it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

Head on over to Frenchmen Street and to d.b.a (618 Frenchmen) for an amazing evening of music with Young Pinstripes Brass Band at 10:00 pm (there may be a small cover - but it's worth the money!)

Satchmo Celebratin' Tomorrow!!

Friday! Friday! Friday! - It's the Satchmo Club Strut on Frenchmen Street!!

In true Satchmo style, there’ll be some Struttin' on historic Frenchmen Street tomorrow night from 6:00 pm to 2 am.  The jazzy club crawl offers the perfect chance to experience the sights and sounds of New Orleans’ unique music scene in a progressive jazz concert that spans 17 locations along Frenchmen Street!

Throughout the evening, music aficionados will be treated to jazz performances by Centurion Lionel Ferbos and a variety of stellar musicians, including Chris Thomas King, Don Vappie, the Soul Rebels, Shamarr Allen, Ellis Marsalis, Charmaine Neville, Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Glen David Andrews, the Free Agents Brass Band, Tom McDermott, Fredy Omar, Jason Marsalis, and others, including the “Satchmo of Japan”, Yoshio Toyama.

Plus, New Orleans’ own Allen Toussaint & Jazzivity, Davell Crawford, Donald Harrison Jr. and the Treme Brass Band will be featured on the Red Stripe Stage in Jane Alley, a new outdoor venue at 619 Frenchmen.

Strutters will dance, drink and dine the night away while supporting the New Orleans Jazz Celebration, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting and perpetuating jazz to audiences of all ages. Venues include Maison, Snug Harbor, Blue Nile, Three Muses, d.b.a., Vaso, Checkpoint Charlie’s and Bicycle Michael’s, to name a few. There will also be featured signings of jazz-themed books by John Swenson, Tom Jacobsen and Ricky Riccardi at Faubourg Arts and Books, and a display of children’s art from Benjamin Franklin, Edward Hynes Charter School, McDonogh # 42 Elementary School and McDonogh 35 High School, depicting individual interpretations of the contest theme, “What a Wonderful World”.
