Sunday Satchmo, Pelicanpalooza, and Lots Mo' Music!!

Good Morning Everybody,

Satchmo SummerFest gets an early start this morning with a Jazz Mass and second-line, 10 a.m., at St. Augustine Church (1210 Gov. Nicholls St.). The Treme Brass Band plays during a Mass at the church of Sidney Bechet.  About 11:30 a.m., following the Mass, there will be a second-line parade featuring Grand Marshal Boe Monkey Red, Jennifer Jones, the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Million Dollar Baby Dolls, Dumaine Street Gang, Sudan Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Undefeated Divas, TBC (To Be Continued) Brass Band, Baby Boyz Brass Band and more.

Then get your self down to the the corner of Decatur and Esplanade for Satchmo SummerFest today!  Satchmo SummerFest has extended its hours from noon to 8 pm and for the first time, fans will enjoy ‘Satchmo in the Shade’ - musical performances under completely tented areas. The new 40-by-80-foot tents will cover stage areas and provide relief from the August heat!!  Check out today's amazing musical line-up:

Looking for more fun stuff to do?

Have some fun and help out the kids over at Southport Hall (200 Monticello Ave.) with Pelicanpalooza starting up at Noon!!  The annual concert to support Camp Pelican, a sleep-away camp for children with pulmonary disorders.  They'll be music by The Molly Ringwalds, Five Finger Discount, Weathered and The Top Cats.  Admission is only $12 for this great cause and kids 12 and under get in FREE!!  Come on out and support the camp!

And if you want to dance the afternoon away head on down to the National World War II Museum (945 Magazine) for this FREE event the Summer Sunday Swing SeriesProfessional swing dancers will provide coaching for dancers at all levels while your swinging to The New Orleans Moonshiners - It's dance lessons at 1:00 pm and more great music from 2:00 to 4:00 pm!

Enjoy music in a beautiful setting at Trinity Episcopal Church (1329 Jackson) as the Trinity Artist Series continues this evening at 5:00 pm.  LPO violinist Kate Withrow and Eleni Dafeka from Greece, perform sonatas for violin and piano by Schubert and Syzmanowski.  This concert is FREE and open to the public.

Looking for a romantic evening of music?  Check out the
Summer Twilight Romance Series at the Jazz Back Porch at the N.O. Jazz National Historical Park Visitor Center (918 N. Peters) at 7:00 pm -  Harmoniemusik New Orleans continues a summer series of classical chamber music at the Back Porch, including trios, quartets, quintets and more.  Admission is FREE - but donations are accepted and appreciated.
