Celebratin' the Last Wednesday in 2011!!

Holiday Fun!
Celebrate the season at Lafreniere Park (3000 Downs Boulevard) - The annual “Holiday in the Park” The beautiful light display is nightly from dusk 'til 9:00 pm and admission is $3 a car. The light display is generously donated by the family of the late Al Copeland - The park comes alive for the holidays with thousands of twinkling lights and displays.
And there's more holiday fun at City Park with Celebration in the Oaks! The Celebration runs nightly through January 1st - Sunday thru Thursday from 6:00 pm to 10:00pm and Friday & Saturday 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm (closed New Years Eve). There are fabulous new exhibits, nightly entertainment, synthetic ice skating rink, amusement park rides. Sunday Fun at the Children's Museum & Show Some Support with Sunpie!
Happy Sunday Everybody!
It's a Target Free Sunday at the Louisiana Children's Museum (420 Julia) all day long from Noon to 5:00 pm!! Visit the Museum for FREE this Sunday, courtesy of Target. Participate in fun, physical activities beginning at 1:00 p.m. Watch the Red Shirt Brigade perform their Let's Move dance at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Plus, enjoy a special jump-rope performance at 2:45 p.m. Bring your dancing shoes and let's get fit together!
A benefit - Rock, Ride ’n’ Rescue, featuring musical entertainment by Sunpie Barnes, tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at Rock ’n’ Bowl Mid-City Lanes, 3000 S. Carrollton Ave. There's gonna be a silent auction with each organization sponsoring a table, bowling, cash bar and a lot of fun. The cost is $10 per person and tickets can be purchased in advance through each organization, which will keep those admission fees. Proceeds from tickets sold at the door will be split among the groups. Organizations participating are:

It's Back to the Point - Tonite!

Just cause Wednesdays at the Square is over doesn't mean the music is going to stop...No way!
Starting today the Wednesdays on the Point concert series begins in Algiers and runs through August 10th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and of course, admission is FREE...Tonight head to the Algiers Ferry Dock (200Morgan St.) for Sasha Masakowski and Glen David Andrews - remember you can take the ferry over for free - it's a beautiful ride across the river! THIS evening at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art (925 Camp St.) - Collecting 101: A Conversation with Collectors: Sydney Besthoff, Jill Dupre, Josh Mayer and Will Erickson. How does one become an art collector? This panel will give a first-hand account how these four collectors started, and how their collections grew and changed (and are still changing). Questions will address the basics of collecting—such as dealing with a gallery or artist, and funding—to the more personal, such as why they collect what they do. Go by Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) for an amazing musical line-up tonight with Camile Baudoin (you know him from the Radiators!), David Doucet (you know him fron Beausoleil!) and Harry Hardin (a classical violinist, who has played with almost everybody in New Orleans music!) the guys starts up at 8:00 pm - so, be there or be square (there is a cover, but it will be worth it)!! And don't forget to come hungry for some super yummy Taceaux Loceaux!
Stay in Mid-City and head on down to Banks Street Bar (4401 Banks) for some Major Bacon and some FREE BLTs - tonight at 10:00 pm...you can never get enough of the bacon!!

Enjoy Concerts in the Park and a Beautiful Church!
Happy Wednesday!
Come on down to Lafayette Square for Wednesday at the Square and another stellar line-up for this year's concert series....there will be crafts, food and libations....Tab Benoit and Navy Band New Orleans Full Steam Brass Band get things movin' this evening at 5:00 pm - check out the entire line-up so you can make your plans.
The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra presents its first free outdoor park concert at Lafreniere Park today at 6:00 p.m..... Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets to the gazebo on the center island in Lafreniere Park, 3000 Downs Boulevard, and enjoy the glorious sounds of live music during the LPO's first free outdoor concert in this beautiful green oasis! The LPO will serenade listeners with a selection of well-known and well-loved orchestral works including John Williams' famous movie music from Star Wars and E.T., as well as a medley from Richard Rodgers' The Sound of Music. The evening will close with Tchaikovsky's rousing 1812 Overture, and while you won't see any actual cannons in the park, you will hear their sounds, thanks to modern technology, in this stirring conclusion to a wonderful, family-friendly musical evening.
Come be a part of history! Archbishop Gregory Aymond will celebrate Mass in St. Alphonsus Church (2025 Constance Street) tonight at 7:00 pm. This will be the first publicly held mass in St. Alphonsus since 1979. A reception will follow the Mass, and if you've never visited this National Historic Landmark you really should...it's more beautiful than words can describe.

The Bayou Boogaloo continues on today with a full day of fun starting up at 11:00 am on the banks of Bayou St. John (and Orleans Ave.) with a full weekend, of music, food, art and the "Derby Duck Race" for Second Harvest this Sunday. I got my "Quack Pack" did you get yours???
