Tom Hook

It's a great night to hang out at City Park and enjoy Tom Hook for the Twilight Garden Concert Series! Musician, songwriter, historian, Tom will be joined by some of New Orleans finest musicians, and will perform music of Tom Waits and Randy Newman, along with some New Orleans R&B, jazz standards, and originals. The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out...$10 for adults and $3 for children.

Dave Malone

Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden has Dave Malone with Friends and Family. For more than 30 years, Dave Malone was best known as the guitarist/vocalist and one of the songwriters of The Radiators, with whom he recorded more than a dozen albums. The group performed over 4,000 shows in their 33 years together. For this Ogden After Hours, Malone will perform with his daughter, Darcy, Graham Robinson, and Steve Spitz.
*Be sure to head on over to the bar for this month's signature drink - O-Sangria. And remember with your Ogden membership all of these excellent concerts are FREE!

Tonight is the Tastings at the Track Wine Series Kick Off at the Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots (1751 Gentilly Blvd.) from 6:00 p.m. 'til 8:00 p.m.  The fun tasting series returns with "Bountiful Bubbles: Sparkling Wines from Around the World." The reception-style tasting will feature 30 sparkling wines including those from California and France, Cava from Spain and Italian Prosecco. The tasting will also feature a selection of gourmet cheeses, and wine experts who will answer wine-related questions. Cost is $25 per person. A very special night at Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) - Eric Cashus Clay Memorial Celebration at 7:00 pm.   It's going to be a Super Great and Gettin' Better Tribute to festival friend and family member.  Proceeds from this benefit will to go help defray medical costs from Cashus' battle against cancer. The musical lineup is superb: A house band with Gregory Davis, Derrick Freeman, Thaddeus Richard, Todd Duke & Mark Brooks. Guest appearances by Dirty Dozen and Treme Brass Bands, Delfeayo Marsalis, Kermit Ruffins, James Andrews, Roland Guerin, Renard Poche, Dr. Michael White and even more we can't mention! If that list doesn't say something about how much this guy was loved and is missed, I don't know what could!

If you're looking for some more dancing - head on over to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal)  for swing dance lessons - 6:00 to 7:00 pm for beginners and 7:00 to 8:00 pm for advanced  (go to http://www.nolajitterbugs.org/ for more info and to sign up for lessons.)   And stick around afterwards for the Kristin Diable and The City at 9:00 pm (there might be a cover, but the sultry sounds of Kristin is worth it)!  It's gonna be a fun night at the Chickie's!!

More fun in Mid-City with a different kind of dancing over at Bayou Park Bar (542 S. Jeff Davis)!  It's the burlesque stylings of Spooky Lestrange and Her Million Dollar Baby Dolls...the show consists of a rotating cast of local dancers and out of towners, venerate cultural icons, both classic and cult.  With a literary flair, their past “Church of Burlesque” events include ‘sermons’ on True Blood, banned books, and comic books.   This should be a good one!  (Might be a small cover - but it will be worth it!)

If you're looking for some wine to taste in a unique setting you need to head out to the New Orleans Fairgrounds from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for the first "Tastings at the Track - Great Values from Around the World" sponsored by Dorignacs.  Attendees will have the opportunity to taste a collection of 35 delicious great value wines from around the world.  This casual, reception style tasting will also feature a selection of cheeses and wine experts who will discuss and answer wine related questions.  Tickets are $25 per person and are available at Dorignac's (710 Veterans Blvd in Metairie). Tickets will be available at the door if the event is not sold-out.

Celebrate some more with a little culture and music.  Head on over to the concert at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art - better known as Ogden after Hours.  The music starts up at 6:00 pm. with Paul Sanchez......Paul is a New Orleans singer-songwriter whose music continues the city's longstanding tradition of performers melding jazz, blues and funk with lyrics of wit, wisdom, sorrow and joy.....so come on down for some music, culture, food, fun and my hubby, Bill deTurk, will be doing the in depth interview so you don't want to miss it!! And don't forget to try out this month's signature drink the "Limoncell-O" it is really good!

Go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with Julio And Cesar!  The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.

Tonight it's the second concert for Live at Lafreniere Park (3000 Downs Blvd.) at 6:00 pm with The Yat Pack.  Look for the huge stage on the island, and the best part?...Admission is FREE!!! Kids and pets are welcome too!

There's fun on Frenchmen at the Maison (508 Frenchmen) with a triple header tonight with Those Peaches at 5:00 pm, John Dobray at 7:00 pm and stay on for Doombalya at 10:00 pm!

d.b.a. (618 Frenchman Street) has a spectacular double header!!   Piano man Jon Cleary at 7:00 pm and stay on for Spy Boy at 10:00 pm (there's a small cover, but you don't want to miss it!)

Spotted Cat Music Club (623 Frenchmen) has a triple header too with Brent Richardson at 4:00 pm, Miss Sophie Lee at 6:00 and top off the evening with The New Orleans Moonshiners at 10:00 PM!!

A Thursday with Wine, Music and a Big Irish Party!!

You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art - better known as Ogden after Hours.  The concert starts up at 6:00 pm. with Shannon McNally's earthy, bluesy and fresh voice.  Her unbridled approach to songwriting carries the great blues and blues/rock tradition on to new generations of fans......so come on down for some music, culture and fun..don't miss it!!

Celebrate the Launch of the brand new website for the Irish Network in New Orleans tonight at Finn McCool's (3701 Banks) from 5:30 pm to 11:00 pm in beautiful Mid-City...There's gonna be free food free Guinness, Jameson cocktails, NOLA beer and Merlin wine.  Entertainment from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the students from the Joni Muggivan School of Irish Dance, and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. the New Orleans-based Irish roots rocker Danny Burns performs, and throughout the evening DJ Dylan O’Donnell (of NOLA Bulls fame) will spin tunes! Sponsored by the Irish Network of New Orleans - sign-up this evening to become a founding member!!
