Thursday Fun w/Wine, Jazz, Folk and Mirlitons!

Happy Thursday!

Don't miss out on the weekly wine tasting at Cork and Bottle (3700 Orleans) about 5:00 pm in Mid-City. Come sample some delicious vinos and kick off your early weekend right! You can also stop at Clever (right next door - don't even have to walk outside) for their happy hour specials after attending the free wine tasting!

And be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market (right outside the door) and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more! The Market will be celebrating National Food Day with cooking demos, seed giveaways, treats for the kids, and a free raffle of signed copies of Farm to Fork by Emeril Lagasse, The Art of Simple Food by Alice Waters, and Crescent City Farmers Market Cookbook by Poppy Tooker.

And there's more wine!! Come to Tastings at the Track and celebrate a Bigger is Better: Robust Reds from Around the World! The reception-style tasting will feature more than 25 bold reds from Amarone to Zinfandel.  Held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the clubhouse at Fair Grounds Race Course and Slots (1751 Gentilly Blvd.), the spirited sampling is sponsored by Dorignac's. Wine experts are on hand to answer all of your wine questions, and there will be gourmet cheeses to compliment the wines. Cost to attend is $25 per person. Tickets are sold at Dorignac's or at the door. Don't miss it!

Jazz in the Park Free Concert Series continues this evening in Armstrong Park! PUfAP is proud to present the 2012 second season of Jazz in the Park, inside of the historic Louis Armstrong Park. The events are FREE, begins today and runs from 5:00 to 8:00 pm for seven Thursdays until November 1st featuring a Marketplace that provides an opportunity to purchase fresh food, produce and craft market available to the public from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - better known as Ogden after Hours. Tonight the Ogden presents Shovels and Rope -Hailing from Charleston, South Carolina, Shovels & Rope (Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst) prefer to keep it simple. They have cleverly managed to take three separate recording projects and combine them into one cohesive, folk rock, sloppy tonk, harmonized, loose but tight, streamlined audience killing machine! Tonight the O BAR's celebrates October with is Oktober Fest Beers! *Remember with your Ogden membership all of these excellent concerts are FREE!!

It's almost time for the Mirliton Festival and you can start celebrating tonight at The Mirliton Festival Kickoff Party, presented by the Bywater Neighborhood Association, and sponsored by Old New Orleans Rum. Join in the fun at The Country Club (634 Louisa St.) in the Bywater to help kickoff this year's Festival. The evening will feature the vinyl sounds of DJ BUNNY & DJ LINGERIE. And be sure to check out he Old New Orleans Rum Bywater Bomber, Official Daiquiri of the Mirliton Festival. The Country Club kitchen will be previewing some of the "Mirliton Specials" they'll be offering at the Festival:

-Braised Pork & Cho-Cho Stew
