Join us today for the Satchmo Birthday Party at Armstrong Park 10 a.m. at the Louis Armstrong Statue (enter Armstrong Park at the Rampart Street at St. Ann gate) - It's FREE and open to the public Join us to celebrate the 111th anniversary of Louis Armstrong's birth. French Quarter Festivals, Inc. presents a birthday salute and press conference, New Orleans Style! Enjoy a very special birthday cake and music by the 'Satchmo of Japan' - Yoshio Toyama and the Dixie Saints!!

Mardi Gras World presents Jammin' On the River - A free series along the riverfront @ Mardi Gras World this summer featuring premier talent from New Orleans artists along with gourmet food trucks, beverage and craft vendors all in a family friendly environment. DJs close out each night as the sun goes down. Tonight it's The Bucktown Allstars plus The Scott Schmidt Band. Events start at 5PM.

    Happy Mercredi Gras!!!

    Happy Mercredi Gras - Hope everyone is having a wonderful week - parades are getting in full swing!!

    Wednesday Pee-rades!!

    Head on Uptown tonight for a double header of parades this evening!!  The Krewe of Druids, named for the ancient order of Celtic priests, rolls at 6:30.  The theme remains a secret until they roll!!

    The Krewe of Nyx, immediately follows Druids.  Get excited for the inaugural roll of the all-women parade named for the Greek goddess of the night!  It's another secret theme for this 20 float krewe..so get out there to check the ladies out tonight!

    Wednesday Fun Stuff!

    If you're not feeling like parades tonight come out and support the New Orleans Police Department's Mounted Horse Division and enjoy your favorite foods from Galatoires, Cafe' Reconcile to just name a few! Head to the Equestrian Center on Harrison Avenue and Marconi Drive in City Park from 3:00 to 8:00 pm for Horses, Hops, and Cops! Take photos with the Budweiser Clydesdales, participate in family-friendly activities, and enter a raffle to win a ride on the Budweiser wagon in the Mardi Gras parade! All proceeds support the N.O.P.D. Mounted Division that has been a crucial aid in deterring and stopping criminal activity in New Orleans.


    Experience an Evening of Cultural Indulgences at the JW Marriott Lobby Lounge (614 Canal Street)from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The featured artist this week is Dan Milham, presenting his beautiful photography (and you may remember him from his weather days over at WDSU).  Enjoy the sounds of Ricardo Crespo and a wine tasting with complimentary hors d’oeuvres.     Thursday Events

    Don't miss out on the weekly wine tasting at Cork and Bottle (3700 Orleans) about 5:00 pm in Mid-City - Taste some amazing wines.  So, come sip, shop and pick up your favorite wine or liquor! You can also stop at Clever (right next door) for their "tasting special" - $1 off your first cocktail after attending the free wine tasting.  And be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more! 

    Need a little art, culture and music? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) -better known as Ogden after Hours.  The concert starts up at 6:00 pm with Louisiana Hellbenders, Louisiana Hellbenders was formed after Hurricane Katrina ripped things up in New Orleans. In the midst of rebuilding our homes and the city it seemed like a perfect time to come together, meet some new people and play some ol' time rockin' roots music to put a few smiles on people's faces. And head on over to the bar for this month's signature cocktail the "French 75 - O my!" Champagne, gin, simple syrup & lemon juice.   Remember if you're a member of the Ogden you always get in free! 

    *(Oh, and I  can finally say again...if you get there a little early head by the Circle Bar right around the corner on Lee's Circle...Their big grand opening is tomorrow, but perhaps they'll be open today - worth a shot anyway.)

    Friday Satchmo Struttin' and Lots Mo' Music!!

    Happy Friday Everybody - I hope you're rested up cause you got a busy weekend ahead!

    Tonight kicks off Satchmo Fest with the SATCHMO CLUB STRUT on Frenchmen Street!!

    In true Satchmo style, there’ll be some Struttin' on historic Frenchmen Street tonight from 6:00 pm to 2 am.  The jazzy club crawl offers the perfect chance to experience the sights and sounds of New Orleans’ unique music scene in a progressive jazz concert that spans 17 locations along Frenchmen Street! 

    Throughout the evening, music aficionados will be treated to jazz performances by Centurion Lionel Ferbos and a variety of stellar musicians, including Chris Thomas King, Don Vappie, the Soul Rebels, Shamarr Allen, Ellis Marsalis, Charmaine Neville, Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Glen David Andrews, the Free Agents Brass Band, Tom McDermott, Fredy Omar, Jason Marsalis, and others, including the “Satchmo of Japan”, Yoshio Toyama.   Plus, New Orleans’ own Allen Toussaint & Jazzivity, Davell Crawford, Donald Harrison Jr. and the Treme Brass Band will be featured on the Red Stripe Stage in Jane Alley, a new outdoor venue at 619 Frenchmen.

    Strutters will dance, drink and dine the night away while supporting the New Orleans Jazz Celebration, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting and perpetuating jazz to audiences of all ages. Venues include Maison, Snug Harbor, Blue Nile, Three Muses, d.b.a., Vaso, Checkpoint Charlie’s and Bicycle Michael’s, to name a few. There will also be featured signings of jazz-themed books by John Swenson, Tom Jacobsen and Ricky Riccardi at Faubourg Arts and Books, and a display of children’s art from Benjamin Franklin, Edward Hynes Charter School, McDonogh # 42 Elementary School and McDonogh 35 High School, depicting individual interpretations of the contest theme, “What a Wonderful World”.

    Music & Market Workshops, Honeybee Tryouts and a Swingin' Sunday!

    Happy Sunday Everybody - had a little computer break yesterday, but hope everyone had a wonderful Saturday!

    The dog days of Summer have slowed things down a little bit, but you can still find some fun stuff going on around town!

    You can get an early start with the kids at Tipitina's (501 Napoleon) with the Sunday Music Workshop form 1:00 to 3:30 pm....Tony Dagradi, Roland Guerin and Johnny Vidacovich perform at the workshop and musicians are asked to bring their own instruments.  Admission is FREE and open to all ages (so, that means you!).

    And continue the fun with the French Market Fare Program with the Hollygrove Market at 2:00 pm.  The Market and Farm discusses local ingredients, urban farming practices, demonstrates how to use various products in creative ways, and how to preserve season produce.  So come on out and learn some fun stuff and go shopping in the French Market (located between Ursulines and Governor Nicholls Street) - what a fun way to spend your Sunday afternoon!!

    It's the Honeybees Final Audition, and you can show your support!!  If you want to cheer on your favorite New Orleans Hornet Honeybee then head on down to the House of Blues (225 Decatur) for 3:00 pm (doors open at 2:30) to cheer on the 34 finalist, and your favorite, competing for about 20 spots on the 2011-12 Honeybee Squad!  The event includes performances by DJ Jermaine Quiz and saxophonist James Martin, with drink specials too - admission is FREE!!!

    And if you want to dance the afternoon away head on down to the National World War II Museum (945 Magazine) for this FREE event the Summer Sunday Swing Series!  Professional swing dancers will provide coaching for dancers at all levels while your swinging to Jayna Morgan and the Sazerac Sunrise Band - It's dance lessons at 1:00 pm and more great music from 2:00 to 4:00 pm!

    Looking for a romantic evening of a music?  Check out the Summer Twilight Romance Series at the Jazz Back Porch at the N.O. Jazz National Historical Park Visitor Center (918 N. Peters) at 7:00 pm -  Harmoniemusik New Orleans continues a summer series of classical chamber music at the Back Porch, including trios, quartets, quintets and more.  Admission is FREE - but donations are accepted and appreciated.

    For you night owls - there's a couple great late music shows going on Uptown tonight!

    Le Bon Temp Roule' (4801 Magazine) has Chapter Soul featuring Calvin Johnson, Kirk Joseph & Kevin O'Day at 9:00 pm!

    The Maple Leaf Bar (8316 Oak St.) has the Joe Krown Trio featuring Walter "Wolfman" Washington and Russell Batiste with the Honey Island Swamp Band all at 10:30 pm!

    Wednesday Fun & Alternative Triple Header!

    Come on down to Lafayette Square for Wednesday at the Square and another stellar line-up for this year's concert series....there will be crafts, food and libations....The Iguanas and Los Po-Boy-Citos get things movin' this evening at 5:00 pm - and check out the entire line-up so you can make your plans.

    There's an amazing triple header of alternative music over at Tipitina's (501 Napoleon) tonight!!  It's Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker plus Mahayla...Doors open at 8:00 pm (tickets are $16 in advance and $18 at the door)..It's gonna be a great night of music - click on the Tips link for more info!

    Start off your evening with the early show over at dba (618 Frenchmen)....The Tin Men get things kickin' at 7:00 pm (no cover)....and then stay on for Walter "Wolfman" Washington & The Roadmasters (small cover, but it's worth it!!) at 10:00 pm (as always) it's gonna be a fun one!!

    Another great evening full of music at the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) with Brett Richardson at 4:00 p.m., The Orleans 6 at 6:00 p.m., and to top off the night St. Louis Slim & The Frenchmen St. Jug Band at 10:00 p.m.!

    Move down Frenchmen for a great show at Three Muses (536 Frenchmen)....it's the Loose Marbles at 7:00 pm...check it out for the music and their yummy food!!

    Looking for some dinner and then some music for dessert?  Rock 'N Bowl (3016 S. Carrollton) can help you out!  Get an entree' over at Ye Olde College Inn and then get a half price ticket to the show right next door at Rock N' Bowl....Tonight they'll be some swinging going on with Swing-A- Roux at 8:30 pm!!
