Happy Friday w/Wine, a Movie and Lots of Music!

Hoorray for Friday!!

And hooray for wine!  It's the weekly wine tasting over at Cork & Bottle (Orleans at Moss St.) - from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Come out and sample some fantastic wines!

And you can double your wine tasting fun! Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Once you've tasted one of their excellent choices you'll be sure to be buy a bottle!

Where Y'Art moves outside to the Sculpture Garden for Friday, May 11th! A great night to treat Mom for Mother's Day! Join the New Orleans Museum of Art and the The New Orleans Film Society as they present music, art making, and an outdoor screening of the classic film, Breakfast at Tiffany's, tonight in the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA. See below for the night's scheduled events.
Admission: $6 for adults : Children (17 & under), free : $3 for NOMA & NOFS Members (Members are allotted 4 tickets at the discounted rate.)

Head on over to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) for happy hour and stay on for Paul Sanchez at 8:00 pm - it's his last solo show at Chickie for the summer so come on out! After Paul at about 10:30, the Geraniums are in full bloom again!

And there's more good music in Mid-City (almost Uptown) over at Rock 'N Bowl (3016 S. Carrollton) for Josh Garrett plus the Essentials at 9:30 pm!! Remember if you eat at Ye Olde College Inn right next door you get a discount to the show! Happy rockin' and bowlin'!

Blues Man Troy Turner heads on over to the Rivershack Tavern (3449 River Road) at 10:00 pm with an amazing night of music - Troy is a truly a master of the Blues guitar - it's gonna be a good one!!

Right down the street you have another trio of shows at BMC (1331 Decatur)...with El the Orazio and Friends at 3:00 pm, Peter Novelli Band at 6:00 pm, and Dana Abbot at 9:00 pm!!

d.b.a.'s (618 Frenchmen) got The Red Stick Ramblers at 10:00 pm...there's a $10 cover, but you don't want to miss the show!!

Art in the Park, Fishin' Rodeos, & Lots of Music!

Happy Saturday Everybody!

It's the Arts Market of New Orleans at Palmer Park (corner of S. Claiborne and S. Carrollton from 10 am to 4:00 pm today!!  Free and open  to the public!  The Market has the region’s best artists, music and great food.  Plus live music with Live performances in the Music Tent include New Orleans Moonshiners at 1:00 pm, followed by Oscar and the Blues Cats at  2:30 pm. .. food and drink from  your  favorite local restaurants, and exciting and educational kid's activities.

If you're looking for a road trip head down to Grand Isle for the International Tarpon Rodeo...This is the oldest fishing rodeo in the U.S., and the rodeo is making it's big return since the BP oil spill! The festival runs from 11:00 to 10:00 pm today with food, merchandise and exhibits. Children's crab races take place at 2:00 pm and be sure to stay on for music with the Wisegus at 6:00 pm! Lookin' for some more great music this afternoon...then head over to the Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur)  for two great in-store shows!! The Yat Pack at 2:00 pm followed by Eric Lindell at 3:00 pm...and don't while you're there pick up some great CDs for your collection!

Tonight is www.nolamusicnow.com's Launch Party Showcase at 10:00 pm over at Southport Music Hall & Deck (200 Monticello Ave).  Nolamusicnow is the brainchild of three life-long friends that started out as a facebook page called NOLA Music. The idea that music feeds the souls led to the creation of a calendar that covers live local music throughout the greater metropolitan New. Orleans area. Over 250 venues and as many as 2.000 events are included in the calendar each month.  To celebrate the launch of the new website, nolamusicnow decided what better way to highlight local music than with a musical showcase. Check out the great music tonight with Shamarr Allen & The Underdawgs, Credo Blues Society, and Funk Pocket - All this fun for the low low cover of only $10!!

Take a visit to Frenchmen St. and the Blue Nile (532 Frenchmen) with 2 great shows with Washboard Chaz Trio at 7:00 pm, and stay on for Mike Dillon, James Singleton and Johnny Vidacovich with special guests Yojimbo at 10:00 pm. (cover)

And a triple header over at Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) with Ken Swartz Trio at 3:00 pm, Panorama Jazz Band at 6:00 pm and top off the night with The Jazz Vipers at 10:00 pm.

Right down the street at the BMC (1331 Decatur) with 4 great shows starting with The Lushingtons at 3:00 pm, Sazerac Sunrise Jazz Band with special guest Lisa Lynn at 6:00 pm, Bo Dollis Jr. And The Wild Magnolias at 9:30 pm, and Ashton & The Big Easy Brawlers Brass Band at 12:30 am.

Head down River Road to the River Shack Tavern (3449 River Road) for Dash Rip Rock at 10:00 pm...this is always a good one, and be sure to try out the fried vegetable platter...yum!!
