Celebrate Peace

Come celebrate Peace Day with the New Orleans Kickoff from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Popp's Bandstand in City Park for The International Day of Peace Weekend. Celebrate with music from Paul Sanchez & The Rolling Road Show as WWOZ helps kick off the weekend of Peace.  There will be food and drinks available at Morning Call Coffee Stand too!




A Movie

Friday Nights at NOMA: Movie in the Garden
Start the weekend off right with NOMA! To celebrate the exhibition Gordon Parks: The Making of an Argument, they're screening the original 1971 SHAFT, directed by Gordon Parks. We've also got a family art activity, and the smooth sounds of Calvin Johnson.

A Concert

Head down to the Quarter for the kick-off of the Fall Season -  Concerts in the Courtyard at the Historic New Orleans Collection....Experience a concert in the courtyard at the Historic New Orleans Collection in the heart of the French Quarter - 533 Royal Street. The fall series opens Friday, September 20th with a performance the Brass-A-Hollics! Admission is $10, FREE for THNOC members, and includes 3 complimentary adult beverages from Old New Orleans Rum! Guests must be 21 or older to enter and memberships begin at the low low price of $35.00 per person.




SATURDAY

Oktoberfest

To kick-off Oktoberfest, Salú (3226 Magazine) is hosting a German-Style Pig Roast on Saturday! The Salú team will roast two pigs marinated in German beer, along with a citrus and sugar brine, garlic and rosemary. The pig will be served on a bun with red cabbage slaw and a coarse grain mustard sauce, and sold for $5. The restaurant will also be selling a selection of German beers at the bar. Prost!

Salú (3226 Magazine) will also be featuring a four-course, pre-fix Oktoberfest menu Tuesday, September 24 thru Sunday, October 6 featuring German-inspired beers and dishes. The meal can be purchased together for $40, or items will be served a la carte. All German-inspired dishes are prepared by our Executive Chef, Dustin Brien. Zydeco Fun

There's gonna be Cajun and Zydeco music and dancing on Frenchmen St. nearly non-stop from 4-11 pm on Saturday - Here's what's happening: Cajun/Zydeco Fais Do-Do at Maison (508 Frenchmen St.) with T'CANAILLE plus JOE HALL & the LOUISIANA CANE CUTTERS; free BASIC Cajun & Zydeco dance lessons  at 3:30 p.m. with Free admission!!* Bring your friends, family members and dancing shoes for 3 hours of *NON-STOP* Cajun & Zydeco music, dancing and family fun from 2 separate stages. Wine Tasting Fun!

Vino!
It's the weekly wine tasting over at Pearl Wine Company (Orleans at Moss St.) - from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Critically acclaimed Owner and Winemaker, Adam Lee, of Siduri Vineyards will be there tasting four of his outstanding Pinot Noirs. And come hungry - Every Friday, Rolls n' Bowls, a new Vietnamese Restaurant in town, will join us during tasting and live music. They'll serve a variety of selections from their menu, including, spring rolls, salad & pork sliders. All around $5!

And you can double your wine tasting fun! Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Antonio Molesini will be pouring 4 great wines from his native Italy this week accompanied by some delicious tapas by Chef Walter!

If you're Uptown head on over to Martin's Wine Cellar (3500 Magazine)....They'll be serving up some lovely wines from 4:30 to 6:30 pm!

Fun at the Museum!

1984 World's Fair
It's 80s night at NOMA! Listen to 80s tunes spun by DJ Bunny and DJ Lingerie or participate in The New Movement's 80s-themed comedy tour as the New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park continue to celebrate "Inventing the Modern World" and the 1984 World's Fair. You can also pop in Café NOMA for "Art You Can Eat," where Chef Chris Montero and Poppy Tooker, host of WWNO 89.9-FM's Louisiana Eats will lead a demonstration on culinary arts from Spain. (This event is included with museum admission.) In honor of Inventing the Modern World: Decorative Arts from the World's Fairs, 1851-1939, all "Art You Can Eat" demonstrations in June will focus on cuisine from a different area of the globe.

Celebrate tonight! It's the OffBeat Magazine July 2013 Issue Release Party featuring The Brass-A-Holics!! Come on out to the soon-to-be-open uptown music club and art space, GASA GASA (4920 Freret St.) from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The free party will feature live music from New Orleans' own Go-Go-Brass-Funk band, the Brass-A-Holics, who cover this year's July issue of OffBeat Magazine. In addition to snagging a free copy of the new OffBeat, guests will enjoy free food from GASA GASA's Freret Street neighbor, Wayfare Handcrafted Food & Spirits and Sammy's Deli, as well as complimentary cocktail tastings from Crown Royal and Glazers Liquor.

French Vino!

The French American Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 14th Annual Summer Wine Festival, "Summer in Provence," from 7 until 10 p.m. Saturday, at The Shops at Canal Place. Enjoy French food and French wines as well as live entertainment and an auction. Tickets are $55 in advance and $65 the night of the event. For more info click here.

It's the Trinity Patriotic Music Extravaganza at Trinity Episcopal Church (1329 Jackson) from 3:00 to 6:00 pm - and admission is free! Come enjoy three hours of patriotic music, featuring the Navy Band of New Orleans, The Marine Corps Band, Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, and pianist Quinn Peeper and organist Albinas Prizgintas performing "Rhapsody in Blue".

Live Like a Squirrel (LLAS) presents a celebration of the life of Robert Jefferson "Squirrel" Wilson to benefit his wife Rebecca at Southport Hall (200 Monticello) from 3:00 to 9:00 om.  The event features unlimited food and drink, live and silent auctions, plus music by The Chee Weez, The Molly Ringwalds, Bag of Donuts, Marc Broussard and more! Hooray for the Weekend with Vino, Museum Fun, Pat O's, a Healthy Movie, and a Southern Fried Zoo!

Vino Fun!

It's the weekly wine tasting over at Pearl Wine Company (Orleans at Moss St.) - from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Come out and sample some fantastic wines and take some home too!  (They're also having a big wine garage sale on Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m. - great prices for delicious vinos - go ahead and stock up!)

And you can double your wine tasting fun! Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Once you've tasted one of their excellent choices you'll be sure to be buy a bottle!

And there's more wine on the Bayou! It's Vino on the Bayou at The Pitot House (1440 Moss St.) from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Come enjoy the June Vino on the Bayou tasting with wine courtesy of Pearl Wine Co., musical entertainment from John Rankin,  Local writer Earl W. Hampton Jr. will be signing copies of his book "The Streetcar Guide to New Orleans". Admission is $5 for Landmarks members and $10 general admission.

Check out Friday Nights at NOMA this evening over at the New Orleans Museum of Art beginning at 5:00 pm and celebrate the weekend!  The event is FREE with museum admissions. This Friday, Judith H. Bonner, Senior Curator/Curator of Art at the Historic New Orleans Collection will give a lecture entitled, "The 1884 World's Fair, William Woodward, and Women's Education."  $10 Adults, $8 seniors, students, active military, $6 children ages 17 to 7, children 6 and under are free.  Check out all the fun events this evening!

Friday Movie and Delicious Food!

Join The New Orleans Eat Local Challenge for a FREE on-location Green Screen event. Together with The Green Project and The Charitable Film Network, we will be showing the film "Ingredients". The screening will be held on the outdoor patio at Zeitgeist (1618 Oretha Castle Haley) with local food and beverage available for purchase. Come one, come all! Doors open at 7:00 pm and the screening starts once the sun goes down.

Weekend Fun!

It's Southern Fried Swamp Fest at the Audubon Zoo!! Traditional and non-traditional fried food will be featured, along with Cajun music in the Swamp Exhibit, lots more music on the Capital One stage, and animal presentations and crafters.  Also, DADS will enjoy FREE admission all day on Sunday in celebration of Father's Day! To expedite your entry, purchase and print tickets at home. Saturday night it's The New Orleans Nightingales at Preservation Hall (726 St. Peter) from 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm!! It's going to be a magical evening with these lovely ladies - Featured vocalists are Meschiya Lake, Lena Prima and Ingrid Lucia.

There's a triple header over on Frenchmen Street at The Maison (508 Frenchmen) with the The Ben Slater Group at 4:00 pm, Smoking Time Jazz Club at 7:00 pm and the Russian sounds of Debauche tops off the evening at 10:30 pm.

Stock up on all your Mardi Gras stuff at the Piety Street Market at the Old Ironworks (612 Piety) - It's Carnival time! 40+ vendors offer a festive array of Mardi Gras costumes, accessories & masks handmade jewelry and crafts, homemade goodies, vintage collectibles, and unbeleivable flea market finds!!

Zebras and Ostriches - oh my!!  Things just keep getting wilder at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, where live zebras will compete in an exhibition race on Saturday!! The first zebra race ever in the South will be paired with the return of ostrich and mascot racing. First post for the twilight Thoroughbred program will be 2 p.m., with mascots, ostriches and zebras scheduled to race under the lights in the evening hours, after 6 p.m.
General Admission will be $10 at the door. Clubhouse and Miller Time Beer Garden admission will be $15. Children 12 and under will be admitted free. The 8th Annual Queen's Balls will be held Saturday at  the Blue Nile (532 Frenchmen). Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes will rock your crowns off starting at 10:00 pm. To start, Queen's Cake!!! There will be a Queen's costume contest between sets. This is "Drag Queen" contest...Girrrrrrrl...There's gonna be hairy chests, furry legs and fuzzy beards in black mini skirts!!!
