Wine Tastings!

Hooray for wine!  It's the weekly wine tasting over at Cork & Bottle (Orleans at Moss St.) - from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Come out and sample some fantastic wines with all tasting wines 10% off!

Double your wine tasting pleasure in Mid-City! Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. .. Plus the folks at Swirl will be dishing out Chef Walter's fabulous tapas ranging from $5-$7.

Night at the Museum!

Check out Friday Nights at NOMA this evening over at the New Orleans Museum of Art beginning at 5:00 pm and celebrate the weekend!  The event is FREE with museum admissions. NOMA celebrates two exhibitions:  Lifelike and Ida Kohlmeyer: 100th Anniversary Highlights, with an artist’s perspective, a gallery talk, music and fun! $10 Adults, $8 seniors, students, active military, $6 children ages 17 to 7, children 6 and under are free.

5 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Art Making Activity with NOMA
5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Performance by the Tufts University Wind Ensemble in the Stern Auditorium

Help out the pups and kittens at Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO) Annual Twelfth Night Fundraiser from 6:00 until 10:00 pm at the Creole Gardens Bed and Breakfast Hotel (1415 Prytania). Come for an evening of ARNO-tastic revelry with live music, delicious food, a silent auction, and a chance to win a fantastic grand prize! Saturday Fun!

Stock up on all your Mardi Gras stuff at the Piety Street Market at the Old Ironworks (612 Piety) - It's Carnival time! 40+ vendors offer a festive array of Mardi Gras costumes, accessories & masks handmade jewelry and crafts, homemade goodies, vintage collectibles, and unbeleivable flea market finds!!

Zebras and Ostriches - oh my!!  Things just keep getting wilder at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, where live zebras will compete in an exhibition race on Saturday!! The first zebra race ever in the South will be paired with the return of ostrich and mascot racing. First post for the twilight Thoroughbred program will be 2 p.m., with mascots, ostriches and zebras scheduled to race under the lights in the evening hours, after 6 p.m.
General Admission will be $10 at the door. Clubhouse and Miller Time Beer Garden admission will be $15. Children 12 and under will be admitted free. The 8th Annual Queen's Balls will be held Saturday at  the Blue Nile (532 Frenchmen). Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes will rock your crowns off starting at 10:00 pm. To start, Queen's Cake!!! There will be a Queen's costume contest between sets. This is "Drag Queen" contest...Girrrrrrrl...There's gonna be hairy chests, furry legs and fuzzy beards in black mini skirts!!! And for all you ladies, EVERYONE is a Queen at the Queen's Balls. PRIZES GALORE. Show up for the Swingingest Sorrie` this side of Sweet Chalmette. Remember.......THE KINGS MAY HAVE THEIR DAY BUT THE QUEENS HAVE GOT THE BALLS!!
