Mississippi Rail Company at Gasa Gasa Tonight!

The House of Blues (225 Decatur Street) celebrates their 20th Anniversary Saturday night as the longest running HOB in the country. It's the weekly wine tasting over at Pearl Wine Company (Orleans at Moss St.) - from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Come out and taste Hook and Ladder wines before you buy. Rolls n' Bowls will have their Spring Rolls from 5:00 to 9:00 pm and stick around for DeSoto Street Band at 8:00 pm!

And you can double your wine tasting fun! Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Antonio Molesini of Republic National and Chris Noyes of Winebow Imports are pairing up for a killer tasting of Italian wines this Friday, and be sure grab one of Chef Walter's Italian themed small plates!

If you're Uptown head on over to Martin's Wine Cellar (3500 Magazine)....They'll be serving up some lovely wines from 4:30 to 6:30 pm!

Gleason Gras!

Former Saint and veritable hero Steve Gleason loves music, and the annual Gleason Gras features performances by Galactic, Anders Osborne, John Micheal Rouchell and other local rockers.  Come on down to Champions Square for an evening of great music and food! Admission for the event benefiting the Louisiana Hospitality Foundation’s ALS awareness efforts and the Gleason Family Trust is free, but VIP tickets are available here!

Head on over to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) in the heart of Mid-City for an amazing show with Paul Sanchez and Friends including Arséne DeLay, Antoine Reynaldo Diel singing the songs and John Herbert playing harmonica on the songs of Paul Sanchez at 8:00 pm! And be sure to stay on for the band COOT at 10:30 p.m. Don't miss it - and be sure to come hungry for a sammich!

If you're craving the funky sounds of Egg Yolk Jubilee then get yourself down to the Bayou Beer Garden (326 N. Jeff Davis).  The party kicks off at 9:00 pm!

It's the 2nd Annual Tails & Ales presented by Abita Beer! This tasting will feature more than 100 beers from around the world and will be held in the Club House at the New Orleans Fair Grounds over looking the paddock and the track! In addition to sampling some great brews you will get to experience live quarter horse racing!! The event is from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Concerts in the Courtyard
It's the final Concerts in the Courtyard at the Historic New Orleans Collection for the Spring Season so come out and experience a concert in the courtyard at the Historic New Orleans Collection in the heart of the French Quarter - 533 Royal Street. The show is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with cellist and vocalist Helen Gillet. Sponsored by Associated Office Systems, the concert series features live music performed in a beautiful French Quarter courtyard. Admission includes three Praline Liqueur cocktails, provided by Sazerac! Admission is $10 at the door, free for THNOC members. Memberships begin at $35 per year. Guests must be 21 or older to enter.

Night at the Museum!

FRIDAY NIGHTS AT NOMA tonight from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tonight, NOMA presents a gallery talk with Rashaad Newsome and Miranda Lash in the Great Hall as well as screening two films in honor of Gay Pride Month. You can also check out Café NOMA for "Art You Can Eat," where Chef Haley Bittermann will lead a demonstration on culinary arts from the Caribbean islands. This event is included with museum admission. In honor of Inventing the Modern World: Decorative Arts from the World's Fairs, 1851-1939, all "Art You Can Eat" demonstrations in June will focus on cuisine from a different area of the globe.

Head on down to the Old U.S. Mint (400 Esplanade) as Sasha Masakowski and Cindy Scott performers lead a free Jazz showcase from 2:00 to 3:30 p .m.  If you haven't checked out the beautiful and cool theater - you really need to get yourself down there!

While your in the Quarter check out a double header of music at the Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur) - It's a performance by Mia Borders at 2:00 pm and followed by Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes at 3:00 p.m.  Be sure to check out their amazing music collection and go home with a CD or classic album!

BEER!

Celebrate all things BEER at the WYES International Beer Tasting - Saturday night at Mardi Gras World (1380 Port of New Orleans) from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. - There will be over 275 beers to sample at the state's oldest beer tasting event. Friday Night at the Museum!

Check out Friday Nights at NOMA this evening over at the New Orleans Museum of Art beginning at 5:00 pm and celebrate the weekend!  The event is FREE with museum admissions. This Friday, Judith H. Bonner, Senior Curator/Curator of Art at the Historic New Orleans Collection will give a lecture entitled, "The 1884 World's Fair, William Woodward, and Women's Education."  $10 Adults, $8 seniors, students, active military, $6 children ages 17 to 7, children 6 and under are free.  Check out all the fun events this evening!

Friday Movie and Delicious Food!

Join The New Orleans Eat Local Challenge for a FREE on-location Green Screen event. Together with The Green Project and The Charitable Film Network, we will be showing the film "Ingredients". The screening will be held on the outdoor patio at Zeitgeist (1618 Oretha Castle Haley) with local food and beverage available for purchase. Come one, come all! Doors open at 7:00 pm and the screening starts once the sun goes down.

Weekend Fun!

It's Southern Fried Swamp Fest at the Audubon Zoo!! Traditional and non-traditional fried food will be featured, along with Cajun music in the Swamp Exhibit, lots more music on the Capital One stage, and animal presentations and crafters.  Also, DADS will enjoy FREE admission all day on Sunday in celebration of Father's Day! Festival season ain't over yet!  We got two big events in the Quarter this weekend! It's Cajun - Zydeco Fest at the The Old U.S. Mint (400 Esplanade) - Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 am to 7:00 pm - Admission is free!

COOL! INTERVIEW STAGE
The National Park Service and the Louisiana State Museum are providing access to the beautiful new theater on the Third Floor of the Old U.S. Mint - where the Jazz and Heritage folks will present interviews with many of the performers. Audience members will hear first-hand how our artists learned their craft and carry on our culture. And it'll be a great place to get out of the heat and enjoy some cool air before heading back out for more dancing, eating and shopping. Interviews will be from noon to 5 p.m. both days of the festival.

Saturday Night Fun in the Bywater

Swing by Mickey Markey Park for the start of the The Fourth Annual World Naked Bike Ride in New Orleans will take place today. The ride will start at 5:00pm from Mickey Markey Park (Piety and Royal Street)The riders will travel through the French Quarter passing Jackson Square and return to the park by way of Bourbon St. There will be an after party at the Country Club on Louisa St. Ride naked!

Party with Mr. Okra tonight at BJ's Lounge (4301 Burgundy St.). It's traveling produce man, Mr. Okra's, 70th birthday and the fun begins at 6:00 pm with music by Guitar Slim and delicious food from Sergio and family! Come wish him a happy day, and check out his veggie truck - if you've never seen it, you're truly missing a piece of rolling art!

Looking for amazing vino, delicious food, and music?  Then head on down to the Convention Center today and tomorrow for the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience (NOWFE) Grand Tastings this evening from 6 to 9 pm and tomorrow from 2 to 5 pm.  You're going to have an amazing time (believe me!!) Looking for more wine - then head on over to Bayou St. John (cause it's a wine kind of weekend!)  It's the Friday Free for All from 6 to 8 pm at Swirl Wine Bar & Market (3143 Ponce de Loen).  Don't miss our crazy fun Friday tasting with Beth Kehn pouring four great domesitc wines including some of the Jed Steele selections and chef Walter's "must-try" small plates! Well, if it's Memorial Day weekend it can only mean one thing...and that's Greek Fest (1200 Robert E. Lee Blvd.) The Big 4-0PA!!! It's the 40th annual Hellenic party with a uniquely New Orleans flair!  Join the fun for delicious food, delightful drinks, and entertainment the entire family will enjoy.  (Entrance fee is only $5...and children under 12 get in FREE!) The fest runs all weekend, and tonight things get kickin' at 5:00 pm...Oh....and make sure you check out the ouzo daiquiri...it's a good one!

Happy Weekend with Concerts in the Courtyard and Fun on the Bayou!!

Hurray for Friday and what a beautiful day it is!!

It's Concerts in the Courtyard at the Historic New Orleans Collection....What a treat this is (and beautiful weather!).....Experience a concert in the courtyard at the Historic New Orleans Collection in the heart of the French Quarter - 533 Royal Street. The show is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with Mas Mamones...Over the band’s nearly 20-year history, the mission has remained the same: to play authentic Latin music featuring rhythms from the Caribbean islands and Central and South America! Admission is $10, FREE for THNOC members, and includes 3 complimentary cocktails - Sazerac will provide Herbsaint Frappes! Guests must be 21 or older to enter.

There's lots of good times on the Bayou!  Start off your evening with a wine tasting at Swirl on Ponce de Leon (right of Esplanade) at 6:00 pm and right down the street at Fairgrinds Coffee House you got Lips and the Trips at 7:30 pm...you don't want to miss Lips - it's going to be a great show!!

Friday Artsy Fun!

Crafters Paradise: Selections from the Louisiana Crafts Guild
The Arts Council of New Orleans showcases some of the finest crafts persons from Louisiana in a group show currently on display in the Arts Council's Gallery ( 935 Gravier St.)
Featuring the work of Anita Ahrens, Amy Anderson, Greg Arceneaux, Annette Aucion, Rosalyn Bernard, Susan Breeland, Luann Duhon, Michelle Fontenot, John Gargano, Michelle Hudelot, Emma Hughes, Pat Juneau, Cynthia Kilgore, Laura Glen Lawson, Mandie Lucas, Terry Palmer, Andrew Jackson Pollack, Mark Sanders, and David and Emily Wortman.
The show will run through March 31st. A special reception will be held tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with food, drink, and fun for all. We invite all guild members and craft enthusiasts to view this exciting show!

It's a romantic evening of music at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art (925 Camp St.) - Ogden after Hours. The concert kicks off at 6:00 pm as the Ogden presents Dr. Valerie Francis and Dr. Wilfred Delphin.  Dr. Valerie Francis performs locally, nationally and internationally. Leading roles to her credit include: Aida, Bess, Serena, Magda, Donna Anna, Donna Elvira, Musetta, Madame Euterpova, Madama Butterfly and Carmen. Dr. Wilfred Delphin is one half of the internationally renowned piano duo Delphin and Romain, which debuted in 1977 at Carnegie Hall!  Tonight the O BAR's celebrates February with the O-Margarita! *Remember with your Ogden membership all of these excellent concerts are FREE!!!  And....my hubby Bill deTurk will be doing the interview today - so you definitely don't want to miss it!

It's a Valentine's House Party y'all - with Keith Burnstein and Lynn Drury! They've been having so much fun playing duo shows around NOLA and the Gulf Coast that we decided to share the love on Valentine's Day. So join them at their friends, Jake and Allisyn(and Camille)'s house, for a great night of Lynn and Keith originals, played in an intimate setting (1316 Joliet Street). They'd love to see you there! Stock up on all your Mardi Gras stuff at the Piety Street Market at the Old Ironworks (612 Piety) - It's Carnival time! 40+ vendors offer a festive array of Mardi Gras costumes, accessories & masks handmade jewelry and crafts, homemade goodies, vintage collectibles, and unbeleivable flea market finds!!

Zebras and Ostriches - oh my!!  Things just keep getting wilder at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, where live zebras will compete in an exhibition race on Saturday!! The first zebra race ever in the South will be paired with the return of ostrich and mascot racing. First post for the twilight Thoroughbred program will be 2 p.m., with mascots, ostriches and zebras scheduled to race under the lights in the evening hours, after 6 p.m.
General Admission will be $10 at the door. Clubhouse and Miller Time Beer Garden admission will be $15. Children 12 and under will be admitted free. The 8th Annual Queen's Balls will be held Saturday at  the Blue Nile (532 Frenchmen). Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes will rock your crowns off starting at 10:00 pm. To start, Queen's Cake!!! There will be a Queen's costume contest between sets. This is "Drag Queen" contest...Girrrrrrrl...There's gonna be hairy chests, furry legs and fuzzy beards in black mini skirts!!! And for all you ladies, EVERYONE is a Queen at the Queen's Balls. PRIZES GALORE. Show up for the Swingingest Sorrie` this side of Sweet Chalmette.
