Hooray for wine!  It's the weekly wine tasting over at Cork & Bottle (Orleans at Moss St.) - from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Come out and sample some fantastic wines!

And you can double your wine tasting fun! Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Once you've tasted one of their excellent choices you'll be sure to be buy a bottle!

Wednesday w/St. Alphonsus - Fun Under the Frescoes - Irish Extravaganza!

Good Morning Everybody, Happy Pre-St. Patrick's Day and Erin go braugh!

Kick off your Irish festivities a little early and head on out to St. Alphonsus Church (2025 Constance) in the Irish Channel for Fun Under the Frescoes - Irish Extravaganza - the concert begins at 6:00 pm with the Crescent City Celtic Band plus the McTeggart Irish Dancers!  Beverages are generously provided by Gordon Biersch and the Boondock Saint.  Admission is $10 and includes three complimentary beverages and a $25 membership (per person) gets you a free pass to the entire concert series! (no worries - we'll be kicking the series back up in the Fall!)

**St. Alphonsus Catholic Church was built in 1855 to serve the needs of the Irish Catholic immigrants who began settling in the neighborhood in the 1840s. In 1979, the church was closed. After a continuing fall into decline, FOSA was formed in 1990; in 1996, the building was declared a National Historic Landmark. Join the New Orleans Film Society to watch the Oscars® live on the BIG SCREEN at the Prytania Theatre for an unofficial screening of the 84th Annual Academy Awards®. Walk the red carpet in your finest glam garb—or come dressed as a character from your favorite nominated film (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo anyone? Or how about wearing a Bridesmaids dress? Or a Descendants Hawaiian shirt?). Also, be ready to flaunt your film knowledge for Oscar trivia! Prizes will be awarded to all trivia and costume winners. Happy Jeudi Gras!!

Happy Jeudi Gras Everybody...the parades keep on rolling along!!

First up this evening are the Knights of Babylon at 5:45 pm....Formed in 1939 by professional men of New Orleans, the Knights of Babylon proudly adhere to traditional float design, which has remain unchanged for over 60 years. Also according to tradition, they continue to light floats with flambeaux and ride on 12-man floats. The king's float is drawn by a team of mules, followed by 12 riding lieutenants. Collectors of Mardi Gras throws are expected to line the route in droves, in quest of Babylon's exclusive jester heads and hats, Knights of Babylon backpacks, Knights of Babylon lighted disc necklaces, soft baseballs, cups and doubloons.



Following right behind is the highly secretive Knights of Chaos, formed by former members of the Knights of Momus, first paraded on the traditional Uptown route in 2000 and does not unveil its theme until the procession takes to the streets.

Baseball-type collectible cards, depicting each float and with a description of that particular title, will be thrown by Chaos members. This tradition began in 2006 and was the first of its kind in the history of Carnival throws.  Plentiful beads and trinkets are also promised, including Chaos Orange Demon lighted beads, plus plush Chaos knights, float-specific cups and more. Also expected to be thrown to spectators will be doubloons and many trinkets signifying the generosity of the riders.



And rounding up the evening the Krewe of Muses rolls on a slightly different parade route (see below), named for the daughters of Zeus and patrons of the arts and sciences, is New Orleans' only all-female night parade. The parade has become one of Mardi Gras' favorites, thanks not only to its humorous and biting parade themes, but also for its sought-after throws....SHOES!! 



And AFTER the parades there's free music!!!

GEAUX TIGERS - BEAT BAMA!!!

Okay, if you're lucky enough to have off work today - there's good stuff going on all day long!!!

The Piazza d'Italia (300 Poydras St.) will host a "Boudin vs.  Barbecue Tailgate" from 11 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Afterward we can all  reflect on the wisdom of hashing out a decades-old football rivalry by  arming the fans with knives and hot surfaces. Admission varies from $2  to $8 depending on how hungry and thirsty you are!!

Join thousands of Tiger fans near the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for a pre-game day warm-up Tiger Block Party on the 700 Block of S. Rampart between Julia/Girod Street.  The Big Game Bash, featuring local DJs (DJ Jive, DJ Ronnie Roux, Beverly Skillz) and the Chee Weez, starts up at 10 a.m.  General admission tix are $25, and VIP tix are $45 and includes 5 food and drink tickets...or just hang out on the periphery and bring your own beer (it IS New Orleans)!!!

Lucy's (701 Tchoupitoulas) is having their huge block party!! They project the game onto the side of the building next door and take over the entire street. They're also opening up their loft space upstairs with its own projector screen and offering Alabama Slammers and LS-Shooters. Head down early the fun starts up at 11:00 am!!!

Maison (508 Frenchmen) will be hosting a massive party for the BCS Championship game starting up at 5:00 pm. They'll be showing the game on 10 large flatscreens around the building as well as a giant projector screen. You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!!!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 to 1:00 pm and pick up some fresh seafood, veggies and you can even grab some lunch!  November brings Ann Churchill of Karma Kitchen to the Green Plate Special tent.  We're super excited to try the Lentil, Meyer lemon and cilantro soup, quinoa salad with pomegranate and Rockin' R Dairy goat cheese, lamb shwarma or homemade falafel with oven-roasted market vegetables, and Iranian pistachio cake......yummy!!

Today is also the 31st Annual Day of the Dead/Gede Celebration from 7:00pm to 10:00 pm at 3319 Rosalie Alley (Dirt Alley off of N. Rampart, Between Piety and Desire, in Bywater)  Please wear white with a purple headscarf or black and purple for Gede. Today is Wine Walk Tuesdays this evening from 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm starting at the Ste Marie (930 Poydras) and ending at Bouche...with many stops in between. 411-365 Creative is proud to introduce one of NOLA's premiere weekly events. The first series of events will begin at Ste. Marie and end at Bouche NOLA, stopping at destinations on the way. The Wine Walk Passport will allow you to sample unique wines and small bites, while paying homage to existing establishments in the CBD area as well as experience new, up-and-comers, along the way.
