Good Friday Fun w/Concerts, Paul Sanchez at Chickie & Much More!

Free Friday Concerts

Head on over to the Quarter and the Old U.S. Mint (400 Esplanade) this afternoon for a performance by The Panorama Jazz Band at 2:00 pm!

It's the annual Good Friday Celebration at Magnolia Food Cooperative and Market (2132 Simon Bolivar) today at 5:00 pm...Join the community renewal and gospel concert featuring Jo "Cool" Davis, Cordell Chambliss and many others and it's FREE!

Wine!

Hooray for wine!  It's the weekly wine tasting over at Cork & Bottle (Orleans at Moss St.) - from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  Come out and sample some fantastic wines!

And you can double your wine tasting fun! Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Once you've tasted one of their excellent choices you'll be sure to be buy a bottle!

After the wine....There's good times at the New Orleans Museum of Art this evening with Where Y'Art from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
  • 5pm to 8pm: Art Making Activity
  • 5:30pm to 8:30pm: Music by DJ Kazoo
  • 7pm: Film: Mr. Dial Has Something To Say
  • 8pm: Film: Passionate Visions of the American South
The cost of this event is free with regular admissions. Prices range from: $10 for adults; $8 for seniors, students, and military members; and $6 for ages 7-17.

Head on over to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) for happy hour fun startin' up at 5:00 pm with Don Scott then be sure to stay on for the incredible Paul Sanchez and his Rolling Road Show at 8:00 pm!! Come hungry too - there's delicious pizza and other yummy items being served up!

Need more music?? Then go to Frenchmen Street!

You can get started early at the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) with Brett Richardson at 4:00 pm, Washboard Chaz Blues Trio at 6:00 pm, and the New Orleans Cottonmouth Kings at 10:00 pm.

Stop by Mojitos Rum Bar & Grill (437 Esplanade - corner of Frenchmen) for some excellent margaritas and some great music all afternoon J-Cube at 4:00 pm, Fredy Omar con su Banda at 7:00 pm and stay late for Javier Olondo & AsheSon at 10:30 pm!!

Right down the street you have another trio of shows at BMC (1331 Decatur)...with El DeOrazio & Friends at 3:00 pm for an early happy hour, Gypsy Elise and the Royal Blues at 6:00 pm for more happy hour fun, and top off the night with the Dana Abbot Band at 9:00 pm!!

If you're feelin' the Quarter this evening Kerry Irish Pub (331 Decatur) has two great shows tonight!  Start up early with the Brown Chicken Brown Cow String Band at 5:00 pm and get your Irish on with Crescent Celtic Band at 9:00 pm - it's going to be a great show!

For more good music make your way over to Lee's Circle and Circle Bar (1032 St. Charles) for Debauche with George Kilby - the proclaimed Russian mafia band will get you up and dancin'!!

A Night at the Museum, Drive-Ins & Some Crazy Good Music!

Happy Weekend Everybody!

This is always a fun way to kick things off.  It's the weekly wine tasting over at Cork & Bottle (Orleans at Moss St.) - today they have a wine flight with wine picks from the C & B staff!  Come taste some great, affordable bottles today at the FREE tasting from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

And you can double your wine tasting fun!  Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Once you've tasted one of their excellent choices you'll be sure to be buy a bottle!  (And don't forget their big Bastille Day celebration tomorrow!)

The Where Y'Art? party is going on all night over at the New Orleans Museum of Art from 5:30 pm to 1:00 am with Gallery & Exhibition Tours throughout the night and lots of fun activities and music!!
  • 5:30 pm  to Midnight: an art making activity for the kiddies
  • 5:30 to 8:30 pm: Music by Bamboula 2000
  • 6:00 pm: Walk Through of "Ancestors of Congo Square" with Dr. Sara Hollis,Director of Museum Studies at SUNO
  • 9:00 to Midnight: Music by the New Orleans Jazz Institute Quartet
  • 8:00 pm to Midnight: Museum Shop hosts "Congo Square Deals" with discounts up to 30%!
The event is FREE with museum admissions. $10 Adults, $8 seniors, students, active military, $6 children ages 17 to 7, children 6 and under are free!

There's another drive-in movie this Friday night...but read carefully, because the location is different from the last one.  NOLA Drive-In and NOFS Present a Drive-In Screening of Dr. Strangelove in the parking lot of the First Schwegmann's Giant Super Market at the corner of St Claude and Elysian Fields in the Marigny.  The new location is a lot smaller so bike-ins/walk-ins are encouraged as there is a nice little park to enjoy the film, so bring your blankets!  Come hungry and thirsty there will be food trucks and booze for sale!  Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the movie starts at 8:30 p.m. And don't forget there will be a suggested donation of $5. See you there!

You say - you still don't know what to do??? There's even more fun!!

And even more fun close to Mid-City (almost Uptown) over at Rock 'N Bowl (3016 S. Carrollton) it's a double header with the Creole String Beans and Los PoBoyCitos at 9:00 pm!!  Remember if you eat at Ye Olde College Inn right next door you get a discount to the show!  Happy rockin' and bowlin'!

Head down St. Claude Avenue around 10:00 pm to the Hi Ho Lounge (2239 St. Claude)..It's the DeBauche Russian Mafia Party featuring DEBAUCHE (the Russian Mafia Band) and Di Nigunim (Klezmer punk band from the West coast) there's also gonna be FREE Ukrainian home made BORSCH and Honey Pepper VODochKA...how do you say tasty in Ukrainian??

And for those of you hanging out Uptown don't forget it's Free Fridays at Tipitina's (504 Napoleon Ave.) with New Orleans Bingo! Show - the band starts up about 10ish, and you really don't want to miss it - this is not your average band concert - the theatrics alone, will leave you wanting more!
