TGIF and Happy Friday!!!

Happy Friday everyone! I am filling in for Superstar Blogger Aimee today as she recovers from last night’s Ogden After Hours and the FANTASTIC free concert at the Mother-In Law Lounge featuring the Tin Men And New Orleans Nightcrawlers. That and she is busy moving offices or something at work…

Starting today through April 4 is NOLA Pyrate Week. There will be free and paid events all around the French Quarter. Last year, I particularly enjoyed the Lusty Pyrate Wench competition. Rumor has it there will be a stop at Arrrby’s this year … I just made that up.

The New Orleans Jazz & Historical Park continues its free concert series at the Visitors Center, 916 N. Peters Street, from 2 – 3:30. Eric Lucero will perform and focus and the role of the trumpet in jazz.

Over by Frenchmen Street way, today’s great free shows include golden-throated Sasha Masakowski 7 at the BMC (1331 Decatur), the licorice stick stylings of Evan Christopher’s Clarinet Road 6 at d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen Street), and at the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen Street) – Brett Richardson at 4, the Washboard Chaz Blues Trio at 6:30, and the Cottonmouth Kings at 10.

Also always great is the Pfister Sister Pfriday Happy Hour 5:30 at Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal Street).

Finally, if you feel like traveling down the parish, the Louisiana Crawfish Festival continues today (6 – 11 p.m.) – and all weekend – at the Frederick J. Sigur Civic Center in Chalmette

Happy Birthday today to Leonard “no, my ears are not really pointy” Nimoy (79) and Kiera “I don’t need a funny nickname when I look like this” Knightley (25).

Only 29 days until Jazz fest!
