Happy Weekend with St. John's Eve, Some Egg Yolk and Helpin' Charmaine!

Happy Weekend!

Head down to the Quarter and to the Old U.S. Mint (400 Esplanade) for a FREE performance by Seguenon Kone at 2:00 pm. African drummer and New Orleans musical master Seguenon Kone performs with his band Ensemble Fatien, combining Jazz with thraditional Senegalese rhythms!

Don't forget today is St. John's Eve...so celebrate this evening with the annual St. John's Eve Headwashing Ceremony on the footbridge over Bayou St. John (near Cabrini High School) from 7:00 to 10:00 pm.  There will be a headwashing ceremony (form of Vodou baptism) dedicated to Marie Laveau Wear all white and bring a white scarf or rag for your head (It will get dirty.)   Also, be sure to bring an offering for Marie Laveau; she likes flowers, blue and white candles, Creole foods, hair ribbons and hair dressing supplies, or Vodou-esque items -  Voodoo dolls, potions, gris-gris bags, or images of Marie Laveau.

Saturday Music!

It's Egg Yolk Jubilee time at 10:00 pm over at the Circle Bar on Lee's Circle.  Tonight it's time to get down with the brass band sounds - you don't want to miss out on the funky fun!

And get yourself to the Uptown Tipitina's (501 Napoleon) for some fancy footwork with The First Annual Second Line Showdown "Battle of the Footwork" The Ladies Edition - you don't want to miss this competition as the ladies show off their stuff - the fun  starts up at about 10:00 pm.

ALL-STAR FUND RAISER FOR CHARMAINE NEVILLE

An all-star fundraiser for Charmaine Neville will take place on Sunday, June 24 at the Westwego Farmer's Market. The Charmaine Neville Tribute and Benefit will feature a range of headlining talent from the Neville family, as well as performances by Dr. John, Kermit Ruffins, Kim Carson, Al "Carnival Time" Johnson, Jo-El Sonnier, and more.

Charmaine Neville was recently diagnosed with CADASIL syndrome, and is currently receiving treatment. Read more about her illness and progress. Funds raised by the event will go to pay for future treatment for Charmaine, and to help her recover from being unable to fully support herself since the onset of her illness.

Charmaine will also perform with her Charmaine Neville Band. A few more performers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

RAFFLE

There will also be a raffle and an auction of autographed New Orleans Saints and LSU Football memorabilia, including:
A football autographed by the Saints during this year's training.
A Saints basket of memorabilia and an LSU basket of memorabilia.
A framed print of a Fats Domino portrait by artist Michael Hunt, signed by both Fats and the artist.
A 2010 Most Valuable Player poster by artist Michael Hunt, signed by Drew Brees, Sean Payton, and the artist.

Tickets are $10, and concertgoers are encouraged to bring folding chairs if they like. The gates will open at 11 am, and from 11 to noon the Red Hot Brass Band will play throughout the grounds. The concert itself begins at noon and continues until 6 pm. Traditional Louisiana food will be for sale, including jambalaya and red beans and rice with sausage, as well as hot dogs and nachos, and a number of desserts. There will also be vendors selling beer and Coca-Cola products. All proceeds from food sales, and a portion of beverage sales, will go to pay for Charmaine Neville's treatment.
