It's Saturday...Oysters, Beer, Art, etc!

Good Morning Everybody,

It's a most beautiful Saturday morning...so it's time to get up and enjoy this most beautiful NOLA kind of day!!!

Here's what's happenin'........

It's time for the first annual New Orleans Oyster Festival with great Louisiana music, a cultural oyster tent, the finest local cuisine, and competitions for oyster shucking and the largest oyster. The "Acme Oyster House, World Oyster Eating Competition" will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the revered New Orleans institution. Weekend performances on the Event's Stage include Irma Thomas, Rockin' Dopsie, Jr. & The Zydeco Twisters, and the James Andrews Band.  Be sure to click on the above link for complete details!

It's the monthly  Freret Market (corner of Freret and Napoleon) today...where you can get beautiful crafts, yummy food, hear some great music and even adopt a new forever pet friend....So come on out for the Louisiana Hell benders at Noon and stay on for some Billy Iuso and the Restless Natives at 1:45 and Fredy Omar at 3:30...You'll never know what good stuff you'll find at the market!

The woods will come alive with the sound of music, artistic performances and lively bidding at the auction planned for FORESTival,  a celebration of art and nature at A Studio in the Woods  from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm 13401 Patterson Road.  There will also be the amazing sounds of Panorama Jazz Band and Beth Turner & friends. (Check out the link for a complete schedule of events).... If you haven't checked this place out....you really must...it's gonna be wonderful way to spend your day!  

For all you history buffs.....I'm sure you know this weekend is the anniversary of D-Day...and it's D-Day and the 10th Anniversary of the WWII Museum.  If you haven't taken the time to check this museum today would be the day....with all kinds of activities going on, from kids activities, PT Boat tours, the Living History Corps, and be sure to see the amazing 4-D movie "Beyond all Boundaries" while your visiting....for a complete list of events going on today!

Don't forget it's the second day at Back to the Beach (where Williams meets the Lake)...There's gonna be more food, fun and music today...check out today's line-up!  Gates open at 3:00 and Vieux Carre starts things up at 3:30, The Mixed Nuts at 4:50, Rebirth Brass Band at 6:10, Benjy David Project at 7:50 and to close out Contraflow at 9:35...Go out and support our Lake and our Coast!!

Tonight is the WYES International Beer Tasting....this a great one for all you beer lovers out there...You will be in beer heaven!!  Sample over 200 beers, ales, lagers and more....This event is at the UNO Lakefront Arena and goes from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.  Tickets are $30 for groups of for seniors and groups of six or more, $35 for individual and $45 at the door...you really can't miss this beer event!   

Tonight is also a time to band our community together against the Gulf Oil Spill....with the 1st (and hopefully only) Procession of the Krewe of Dead Pelicans....The procession will start at 5:30 pm outside the Canary Collective Gallery (329 Julia)....Please join in this most important event.
