Gretna Fest, German Fun and Hamp Fest!!

It's a gorgeous Friday...Let's celebrate!!

Get your wine on this evening with a little tasting at Swirl (3143 Ponce de Leon) with the Friday Free for All from 6 to 8:00 pm....there's gonna be 4 free wines plus tapas from Chef Dan Esses' new restaurant, 3 Muses.   At the bar this week they'll be serving up some of Dan's empanadas, fresh pasta and more!!!

And you don't want to forget.....It's the opening weekend of the Final Oktoberfest at Deutsches Haus (200 S. Galvez)...this fun festival starts up at 4:00 pm today and is going on each weekend from Sept. 24- October 16...Admission: $8, Children 12 & under Free....The Deutsches Haus opens Oktoberfest for the final time at the original location in Mid City.  Enjoy great German food, drink, and music...come do the Chicken Dance!!!

All weekend long it's the 15th annual Gretna Heritage Festival, featuring local music, food and cultural experiences covering 25 city blocks in historic downtown Gretna. Acts include REO Speedwagon, Sister Hazel, The Vettes, The Doobie Brothers, The Charlie Daniels Band, Blake Shelton and Irma Thomas. Tickets are $15, $40 for a weekend pass and free for 12 and under. Friday’s festivities are from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday’s go from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday’s events last from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m...Click on the above link for all the details!!

Be sure to head on down to Hamp Fest tonight with ConFunkShun + Michael Ward + Kermit Ruffins from 6:00 pm to midnight at Saint Augustine High School.....The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation is a co-sponsor of the Edwin Hampton Music Festival.  As part of the Foundation's Jazz Journey series of tributes to important figures in New Orleans music, an all-star group of New Orleans jazz artists will perform at the festival.  The event honors the legacy of Edwin Hampton, who founded the St. Augustine "Marching 100" and was its band director for more than 50 years.  Proceeds from "Hamp Fest" will help to provide scholarship funds for needy applicants to St. Augustine, which was founded in 1951 as a Catholic high school for African-American males.  Tickets to Hamp Fest may be purchased online at http://www.purpleknights.com/. Hang out in Mid-City tonight at Chickie Wah Wah on Canal for Happy Hour with The Pfister Sisters at 5:30 pm, Paul Sanchez featuring Sonia Tetlow, Mary Lasseigne and Ruby Rendrag, and to top of the night Seth Walker at 10:00 pm...and be sure to come hungry...the got some yummy food over there!!

It's Foundation Free Friday at Tipitina's (501 Tchoupitoulas) with the To Be Continued Brass Band + Young Fellaz Brass Band + We Are One Brass Band (CD Release)...The fun starts up about 10:00 pm...and it's FREE!!!!
