Dr. John and Opera Fun!!

Another beautiful day in the Big Easy!!

2010 HARVEST THE MUSIC CONCERT SERIES continues....the free concert series benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans & every WEDNESDAY from September 15-November 3 from 5:00 pm to  7:30 pm at LAFAYETTE SQUARE!!  In addition to a free, weekly concert, concert-goers will enjoy food and drinks for purchase (no outside food or drinks, please) from local favorites including: Rouses, Beaucoup Juice Snoballs, Crepes a la Cart, Miss Linda's Soul Food Catering, Lil Dizzy's CafĂ©, Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant, Oceana Restaurant, Boucherie, and Squeal. An artists' village will feature artwork and crafts from regional artists and designers, all available for purchase.

It's a double dose of Gershwin this evening!!  It's Masters Month as Irvin Mayfield interprets Porgy and Bess at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse (in the Royal Sonesta) at 8:00 pm.....Grammy-nominated and Billboard Award-winning Jazz trumpeter Irvin Mayfield's Masters Month series features The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and professors from the UNO Jazz Studies Program who together highlight the works of jazz masters.  Irvin has partnered with the NOOA for Gershwin Month to interpret music from each of this season's operas.  This first Masters Month performance will feature Irvin Mayfield's interpretation of Porgy and Bess.

You can also head on over to The Rusty Nail (1100 Constance) for Opera on Tap from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm....Opera on Tap is a casual, 90-minute concert featuring young local and regional opera singers. For Gershwin Month, the OOT singers will perform a selection of George Gershwin Favorites.

And of course you got even more music!

It's gonna be full afternoon and evening of music at the Spotted Cat with free swing dance lessons at 5:00 p.m.!!  Brett Richardson at 4:00 p.m., The Loos Marbles + The Rumblers at 6:00 p.m., and to top off the night St. Louis Slim & The Frenchmen St. Jug Band at 10:00 p.m.!

You'll be having a good time at d.b.a. on Frenchmen Street tonight with the early evening show with the Mirlitones at 7:00 pm and stay on for John Gros & the Roadmasters...they come on at 10:00 p.m....for a very small cover and he's worth it!
