Brass Band Blowouts, Halloween Fun and Noomoon Benefit!!

Happy Saturday!!!!!!

It's the Red Bull Street Kings - Brass Band Blowout Today!!!!  Four New Orleans brass bands, Free Agents, The Stooges, To Be Continued, and Soul Rebels, will march through Treme to battle it out under the Claiborne Bridge for Red Bull Street Kings, a first-of-its-kind brass band showcase and competition. This brass band battle royale will be hosted by none other than the Crowned Prince of Treme, Glen David Andrews.....Marching into battle, each band will be followed by a Second Line parade. Once taking the stage, the bands will incorporate traditional brass band standards and original tunes. Each band will be evaluated on appearance, energy, musicality, innovation and their material. A panel of New Orleans music and cultural icons including:

Uncle Benny Jones: Leader of the Treme Brass Band and founder of Black Men of Labor Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Gary Holzenthal: Owner of Odyssey Records, Allison Reinhardt: Co-founder and program director of The Roots of Music, Gregory Davis: Dirty Dozen Brass Band trumpeter, professor of music business at Loyola University, and jazz coordinator for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Mannie Fresh: DJ and hip hop producer, Fred Johnson: Founder of Black Men of Labor Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Community Activist, Former Spy Boy

EVENT SCHEDULE:
12:00 PM - 2:30 PM: Opening Celebration - Music by DJ Wop, DJ Dirty Red, DJ HC, and Slab-1

2:30 PM - 5:00 PM: - Red Bull Street Kings Main Event featuring Free Agents, TBC, Stooges and Soul Rebels hosted by Glen David Andrews

Nothing to wear? Don't panic! Many a costume crisis has been solved at this popular annual event....it's the 15th Annual NOLA Designer Halloween Costume Boo-tique today from Noon - 5 PM at the Blue Nile (532 Frenchmen St.) and it's Free & open to the public....More than a dozen of New Orleans' most creative designers, hatters, costumiers and mask-makers offer a vast array of one-of-a-kind costumes, masks, accessories & props at an indoor-outdoor sale. Featuring: Howlpop, Calamity, Kabuki, Cree's Cheap Chic, High Bohemia, New Orleans Masks, Avant Garbe, NOLAtelier, New Orleans Magpie, Miss Karina & more! A don't-miss event for people who take Halloween seriously!

Looking for more fun Halloween stuff!! Visit the French Market for the Boo Carre Halloween and Harvest Festival!! Trick-or-treating in the shops for children in costume, a petting zoo, pumpkin carving, costumed characters, havest foods and music from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm FREE!!! Check out the music - Lil' Malcolm & The House Rockers, Lynn Drury, Christian Serpas & Ghost Town and Amanda Shaw...it's gonna be a fun day at the Market!!!

While in the Quarter be sure to go up to the other side of the Decatur for the Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur) in store concert! You've got Ricardo Crespo at 3:00 pm and the Navy Band of New Orleans at 4:00 pm and of course it's FREE...with really great beer specials right down the street!!

Don't miss the Oak Street Pelican Block Party on Oak Street right off of Carrollton Avenue.....It's a day of shopping and specials to benefit the Humane Society of Louisiana from Noon to 5:00 pm....Shoppers can enter a drawing for prizes, pet grooming will be available. So look for the pelican signs or wildlife symbols for participating businesses!

AND OF COURSE!!! IT'S THE LAST DAY TO PUT ON YOUR CHICKEN HAT AND DANCE!!!!  If you don't do anything else this weekend head on down for the Final Oktoberfest at Deutsches Haus (200 S. Galvez)...this fun festival starts up at 4:00 pm today and this is the last weekend  (Friday and Saturday only)...Admission: $8, Children 12 & under Free....Enjoy great German food, drink, and music...come do the Chicken Dance!!!

It's a Benefit for Noomoon's Dan and Bacon at the Skull Club (1003 Spain St.) and doors open at 8:00 pm show starts up at 9:00 pm...Anyone who knows Dan Sheridan & Andrea Bacon knows NOOMOON and the Land Of Nod Experiments, from Dutch Alley to Voodoo and this Summer’s festival in Jackson, Michigan.....The efforts that both Dan & Andrea put into the Land Of Nod 3 Day Experiment in Art & Music, held this Summer in Jackson, MI, are unmatched in my experience....They created the impossible there, and it was a beautiful thing to see and be part of. It was not, unfortunately, financially successful. This is the part where we, all of us who have benefited so much by the hard work of these folks, get to do something beautiful in return.
