Take a stroll along the River Road levee and stop at the River Shack Tavern at 7:00 pm tonight for some really GOOD red beans and rice, and the cool sounds of Amanda Walker....this is one great way to spend your hot Monday night with a cool river breeze!

More Oysters Please!!
Good Morning Everybody,
Yesterday, turned out to be quite nice, and hope you got to do many fun things in our fair City.
Here's what's happenin' today........
It's the second day for the first annual New Orleans Oyster Festival with great Louisiana music, a cultural oyster tent, the finest local cuisine, and competitions for oyster shucking and the largest oyster. The "Acme Oyster House, World Oyster Eating Competition" will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the revered New Orleans institution. Weekend performances on the Event's Stage include the James Andrews Band, Mustang Sally, and closing out the day Cowboy Mouth. Be sure to click on the above link for complete details!
For you folks on the Northshore...it's the 2nd Annual Gospel Music Jubilee with the Zion Harmonizer +Ron Snow & the French Market All-Stars at the Abita Trailhead. The Music will begin at 1:00 pm and go on until 7:00 pm...This would be a lovely day for a trip across the Causeway!
For all you history buffs.....I'm sure you know this weekend is the anniversary of D-Day...and it's D-Day and the 10th Anniversary of the WWII Museum. If you haven't taken the time to check this museum today would be the day....with all kinds of activities going on, from kids activities, PT Boat tours, the Living History Corps, and be sure to see the amazing 4-D movie "Beyond all Boundaries" while your visiting....for a complete list of events going on today!

Later this evening there will be a Second Line and Procession for Jane Allen Sessions today at 6:00 pm....Gary Reiger's companion, Jane Allen Sessions, recently passed away. Gary is the drummer for the Danny Alexander Blues Band and he is having a second line/jazz funeral memorial for Jane. The procession will begin at Grit's Bar (Lyons & Annunication in New Orleans). Bring, your umbrella, 2nd line rag, tambourine, etc......Jane Allen Sessions (January 8, 1953 - May 2, 2010) Jane was a wonderful lady and made a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her time in this world was short, but she will not be forgotten.

It's Saturday...Oysters, Beer, Art, etc!

Tonight is the WYES International Beer Tasting....this a great one for all you beer lovers out there...You will be in beer heaven!! Sample over 200 beers, ales, lagers and more....This event is at the UNO Lakefront Arena and goes from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Tickets are $30 for groups of for seniors and groups of six or more, $35 for individual and $45 at the door...you really can't miss this beer event!
Tonight is also a time to band our community together against the Gulf Oil Spill....with the 1st (and hopefully only) Procession of the Krewe of Dead Pelicans....The procession will start at 5:30 pm outside the Canary Collective Gallery (329 Julia)....Please join in this most important event.

It's Back to the Beach and Beer!!
Happy Friday Everybody,
How come when you have a shortened week it always seems to go sooooo much slower? Well it's the weekend now so, let's see what's happenin' this Friday night!
Friday Events
For early Friday fun...it's Frappe Fridays at Arnaud's (813 Bienville)....Each Frappe Friday will include Historical overview of J.M. Lengendre with Herbsaint memorabilia and artifacts on display, hands on making of a Herbsaint frappe by each person, an exclusive tasting of the new Herbsaint Original, a hand crafted French Creole inspired meal, and all attendees will receive a Herbsaint Frappe completion certificate for framing with Herbsaint recipes, PLUS a few surprises! In honor of the craft of American and European brewers, this event will feature the hardest to find craft brewed beers, specially made cask and home brewed beers, as well as special one-off beers from local breweries. Guests will be able to talk one-on-one with brewers, home brewers, and other beer industry members, as well as talk amongst fellow beer connoisseurs. Tasting tickets are $50 which also includes lip-smacking food by Crescent Pie and Sausage. Also, the President and staff of NOLA Brewing will be available to meet and greet, as well as answer any questions guests may have. It Must be Thursday..Oysters, Wine and Music!

In Search of the Best Wine Pairing for the Gulf Coast Oyster this afternoon?? Then you gotta go to the Wine and Oyster Pairing Competition at the Bourbon House (144 Bourbon) from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Now more than ever our thoughts are with Louisiana seafood. Over the last five years, our oysters have faced many challenges. But the good news is they're available, delicious and safe. The weekend of June 5th, the city is celebrating the Gulf Coast Oyster at the first annual "New Orleans Oyster Festival." As a prelude to the weekend, oyster enthusiasts will gather at Bourbon House to determine the best wine pairing for the Gulf Oyster! There will be two award categories: People's Choice and Experts' Choice. The cost of the event is $10 and includes a half dozen oysters with the wine tastings...What a deal!!!
Looking for some free wine to taste?? Stop by Cork and Bottle around 5:00 pm in Mid-City, and be sure to stop by the Crescent City Farmer's Market and patronize local Louisiana vendors with fresh veggies, seafood and more!
Need more wine?? Then you need to stop by Partysist (200 Metairie Road) between 6:00 and 8:00 pm for THE PROJECT: A collaboration founded in 2008 between Food & Wine Magazine 2009 Winemaker of the year, Charles Smith (K Vintners, Charles Smith Wines) and Charles Bieler (Three Thieves, BIELER Pere et Fils, Sombra mezcal). The label is an abstract play on the American Flag done by the well loved and historic Nashville, TN poster shop, Hatch Show Print. Taste a sampling of the 2009 rose' and the 2007 cab with Dave from Artisan Fine Wines.
Need a little culture and music and cocktails? You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art better known as Ogden after Hours. The concert starts up at 6:00 pm. with Jake Smith....so come on down for some music, culture and fun! (remember if you get down there early - go grab a cocktail at the Circle Bar on Lee's Circle...one of the best happy hours in town!)
Go hang out at City Park this evening for The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with Musica de Camera! The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.
Have you heard of Camo Fest....well if yes, or if no...be sure to head down to the Bridge Lounge (1201 Magazine) from 6:00 to 8:30 pm for the first ever Camo Exchange! It's a great opportunity to learn about two different new organizations. Stop by on your way home or on your way out. Girls on the Run is starting up in New Orleans. Come meet the organizers and throw five bucks in the bucket. The Camo Fest Krewe will also be on hand to spread the word about Camo Fest Three on June 12th. Bring your leftover camouflage to sell, giveaway donate or exchange. You may even get a surprise that helps you out at Camo Fest.

The result is 27 rarely seen treasures in an exhibition called Swamp Tours, on view at NOMA from June 2 to August 29, 2010.
