TGIF w/Wine, Fishy Fun, Courtyard Concerts, Art & Lots o' Music!!!

Hurray for Friday and what a beautiful day it is!!

Always a fun way to kick things off.  It's the weekly wine tasting over at Cork & Bottle (Orleans at Moss St.) - today they have a wine flight with wine picks from the C & B staff!  Come taste some great, affordable bottles today at the FREE tasting from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. 

And you can double your wine tasting fun!  Check out Swirl located on Ponce de Leon right off Esplanade and enjoy a FREE wine tasting at 6:00 pm. Once you've tasted one of their excellent choices you'll be sure to be buy a bottle! 

Head down to the Quarter for Concerts in the Courtyard at the Historic New Orleans Collection....What a treat this is (and beautiful weather!).....Experience a concert in the courtyard at the Historic New Orleans Collection in the heart of the French Quarter - 533 Royal Street. The show is from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with Shamarr Allen & the Underdawgs...FUN!!! Admission is $10, FREE for THNOC members, and includes 3 complimentary beverages from Lazy Magnolia beer and white wine from Avia provided by Southern Eagle.!!! Guests must be 21 or older to enter and memberships begin at the low low price of $35.00 per household.

The Where Y'Art? party is celebrating SWOON this evening over at the New Orleans Museum of Art starting at 5:30 pm with Gallery & Exhibition Tours, lots of fun activities and music!! Thalassa is a large scale, site-specific installation by the internationally renowned artist Swoon. This unique sculpture will be coming down September 25th, so please join us in celebrating her successful run. There's only two weeks left to enjoy this artwork!  The event is FREE with museum admissions. $10 Adults, $8 seniors, students, active military, $6 children ages 17 to 7, children 6 and under are free.
  • 5:30 pm  to 8:00 pm: an art making activity for the kiddies
  • 5:30 to 8:30 pm: Music by DJ Kazu
  • 6:00 pm: Lecture with John Cort, Denison University, "Jainism as a Religion of Sacred Icons"
  • 7:00 pm: Discussion on SWOON by curator Miranda Lash
Come party at the Aquarium of the Americas tonight with Scales & Ales from 8:00 to 11:00 pm!!!  There's going to be loads of fun with live music and entertainment by Kermit Ruffins, the 610 Stompers, The Stooges Brass Band and Washboard Chaz!!  Sample wine and beer from more than 20 bars as you enjoy the sights and sounds of Audubon Aquarium at night.  Enjoy delicious New Orleans cuisine from local restaurants, soak up the sounds of live music, and watch the stars come out over the Mississippi River.

Head on over to Chickie Wah Wah on Canal for their happy hour around the 5 o'clock hour with music from the Pfister Sisters startin up at 5:30 and stay on for Paul Sanchez at 8:00 pm there's a small cover, but Paul is worth the dinero!!  And don't forget to come hungry cause they got yummy food going on in the kitchen with Taceaux Loceaux!

And there's more good music in Mid-City (almost Uptown) over at Rock 'N Bowl (3016 S. Carrollton) celebrate the anniversary of the Beatle's concert in City Park with the Sgt. Pepper's Beatles Tribute Band at 9:30 pm!!  Remember if you eat at Ye Olde College Inn right next door you get a discount to the show!  Happy rockin' and bowlin'!

Need more music??  Then go to Frenchmen Street! You can get started early at the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) with Brett Richardson at 4:00 pm, Jayna Morgan and The Sazerac Sunrise Jazz Band at 6:00 pm, and the New Orleans Cottonmouth Kings at 10:00 pm.

Stop by Mojitos Rum Bar & Grill (437 Esplanade - corner of Frenchmen) for some excellent margaritas and some great music all afternoon and stay late for Fredy Omar con su Banda at 10:30 pm!!

Right down the street you have another trio of shows at BMC (1331 Decatur)...with Moonshine and Caroline at 7:00 pm, and Dana Abbot Band at 10:00 pm and stay 'til Saturday morning with The Soulbillyswampboogie Band at 12:30 am!!

d.b.a.'s (618 Frenchmen) got The Hot Club of New Orleans at 6:00 pm it's FREE, but don't forget to tip the band!! And stay on for Walter Wolfman Washington & The Roadmasters at 10:00 pm...there's a $5cover, but you don't want to miss the Wolfman!!
