Fun on the Other Avenue and Food for Funk!!

Yea it's finally Hump Day!!

Celebrate all things Lakeview at the Harrison Avenue Marketplace....today from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM at 801 Harrison Avenue.....It's time to start your holiday shopping and Buy Local! With over 70 arts and craft vendors with items that would make great gifts.  St. Paul's will offer complimentary gift wrapping as well.  Entertainment for the evening provided by Big Daddy 'O' a blues guitarist who is a mainstay on WWOZ!!  It's gonna be a fun evening on the Avenue!

Head on over to the New Orleans Museum of Art and meet one of my favorite New Orleans Chefs!!!  Chef John Besh will be signing his latest book, "My New Orleans: The Cookbook" from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm....This beautiful publication features 200 recipes as well as fascinating stories about New Orleans. Perfect for holiday gifts!  Also, at the Museum....artists Matt Vis and Tony Campbell discuss their work in the Déjà Vu All Over Again exhibition, including photography, video, and sculpture.  Both event are free and open to the public. Go by Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) right after work for a fun happy hour that kicks up at 4:00 pm, the Tex-Mex sounds of the Iguanas at 8:30 pm, and there's gonna be Zydeco dance lessons too (check out the website for sign-up info!!) 

Head on down to the Sandbar (Deck area of the University Center’s cafeteria) over on UNO's campus at 7:30 pm tonight for guitarist, Ted Ludwig....it's going to be a great nite and admission is only $5.00 for this amazing show...UNO Faculty, Staff and Students get in for FREE!!!

There's another special show over at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse at the Royal Sonesta!!  Irvin Mayfield's NOJO Jam presents the music of Wynton Marsalis this evening at 8:00 pm...it's gonna be an amazing concert!!

Another great evening full of music at the Spotted Cat with free swing dance lessons at 5:00 p.m.!!  Brett Richardson at 4:00 p.m., The Orleans 6 at 6:00 p.m., and to top off the night St. Louis Slim & The Frenchmen St. Jug Band at 10:00 p.m.!

And you really want to go on over to Tipitina's (501 Napoleon) tonight for "Givin' Up Food Fo' Funk": A Benefit for New Orleans Food Banks featuring Kirk Joseph's Backyard Groove + Jesse Hiatt Band...the show gets kickin' about 9:00 pm...Come party for a great cause!!  Bring a can or more of food and cover is only $10 in advance and $12 at the door for this incredible musical line-up!
