Enjoy a taste of life in Louisiana with a day of cooking and crafts demonstrations (corn macque choux, Houma Indian baskets, Mardi Gras masks, Islenos remedies, spinning and weaving) along with music by the U.S. Navy Band (10:30 a.m.-noon), David and Roselyn (12:15-1:45 p.m.), and Tony Green and the Gypsy Jazz Band
(2:00-3:30 p.m.) FREE!
Today is also Part 2 the Between Daze Festival from Noon to 6pm at the Rusty Nail (1102 Constance) to benefit the New Orleans Musicians Clinic and the Gulf Restoration Network. There's gonna be great food from Woody's Fish Tacos and pristine oysters, boiled crawfish by Brett Ryan Boilmaster Extraordinaire, plus jambalaya and gumbo by Crescent Pie and Sausage Company. As far as drinks go there will be great beers from NOLA Brewery and special cocktails from Old New Orleans Rum and excellent music.....New Era Presents Papa Mali + Mario Abney Quintet + Barr Brothers + Nigel Hall + The Logeaux Trio (and more)...admission is only $5!

This is the time of year I wonder....why didn't I take off the whole week between Jazz Fest weekends? It seems like a pretty good idea right about now.

Jazz Fest "Fats" Monday
Hope everyone had a most excellent Jazz Fest weekend....Besides a little dampness (just a little) on Friday it was an amazing weekend!
Here's what's happenin' this Monday...if you still need to get your groove on!
Start off your day right at the Louisiana Music Factory (210 Decatur) with their continuing in store concerts - check out the line-up! 12:00pm Big Daddy O', 1:00pm Dwayne Dopsie, 2:00pm Honey Island Swamp Band, 3:00pm Little Freddie King, 4:00pm Zachary Richard, 5:00pm New Orleans Cottonmouth Kings, 6:00pm Eric Lindell, and 7:00pm Big Sam’s Funky Nation!!
Take a little time out from the Music Factory to grab a beer and celebrate Gil T.'s Birthday with his big B-day bash at Kerry's Irish Pub (331 Decatur) at 5:00 pm...it's gonna be a good time with Foot & Friends!!
Then move on down the road to "FATS MONDAY" TO HONOR NATIVE SON FATS DOMINO - The French Market Corporation and WWOZ 90.7FM will present "FATS MONDAY", the first annual procession will include Fats Domino and his family riding in golf carts and led by a brass band through The French Market District. It will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Washington Artillery Park, go up St. Ann and around Jackson Square, then return to Decatur Street to proceed down to the French Market Flea Market, then back up to Decatur Street. The procession will end at approximately 5:45 p.m. at The Market Café at 1000 Decatur Street, where a band will welcome Fats and he will sign autographs for his many fans!

There's a happy hour happenin' at Chickie Wah Wah on Canal with the Pfister Sisters at 5:30 pm...No Cover..snacks and kitchen open! Then hang out for the Evan Christopher CD Release Party at 8:00 pm - The resident ambassador for the living tradition of New Orleans clarinet debuts his CD Clarinet Road Vol III!!
You can always have a lovely evening at The Columns on St. Charles Avenue...Sit on the porch and listen to Cajun music legend David Doucet at 8:00 pm.
Go down to hear another amazing early evening show with the 100th Anniversary of Bob French and the Original Tuxedo Band at Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse (300 Bourbon) show starts around 8:00 pm!
You can also go on down to Donna's Bar and Grill at 800 N. Rampart Street - things get geared up at 9:30 with Les Getrex and The Blues All-Star Band and Blue Mondays means FREE red beans and rice and BBQ chicken!
If you're lookin' for some bluegrass music this evening...you don't have to go too far to find it....Check out the Hi Ho Lounge on 2239 St. Claude and the Bluegrass Pickin' Party at 8:00 pm...there's no cover and FREE red beans at this show too!
Rock 'N Bowl has a very special Monday night show with Alvin & the Guilty Women with special guest Sonny Landreth + Snooks Eaglin Tribute with Brint Anderson and George Porter Jr. starting up at 8:30...make sure to bring your socks...so, you can do some rockin' and bowlin'!!

It's another day with way too much stuff going on for one human to do...so make your plans now!
Thursday Events
Kick off work a little early, because the Louisiana Music Factory on Decatur (right across the street from the House of Blues) is starting off their Jazz Fest in store concerts. Today's stellar line-up is 2:00pm John Ellis & Double Wide, 3:00pm Spencer Bohren, 4:00pm 101 Runners, 5:00pm Maurice Brown, 6:00pm Lena Prima, 7:00pm Big Al Carson, 8:00pm Soul Rebels Brass Band - Wow!!!
If you're hanging in Mid-City do a little wine tasting from Cork and Bottle around 5:00 pm (along with the Farmer's Market)...then head on over to the City Park for a big evening!
It's The Thursdays at Twilight Garden Concert Series with accomplished jazz musicians Frank and Cindy Mayes. The gates open up at 5:00 pm and the performance starts at 6:00 pm in the City Park Botanical Garden Pavilion of the Two Sisters...There is an admission charge, but hey, it's helping the Park out..so....it's a good thing...$8 for adults and $3 for children.
Be sure to stay a little later in the park, because it's also Threadhead Thursday at the Botanical Garden! Gates open at 8:00 pm...it's an evening outdoor concert featuring John Boutte, Paul Sanchez, Susan Cowsill, Craid Klein, Shamarr Allen, Glen David Andrews, Mary Lasseigne, Alex McMurray, Margie Perez, Debbie Davis, Russ Broussard, and Matt Perrine and it's totally FREE!!!
If you're staying in the downtown area...don't fret, there's plenty to do!
You gotta go to the show at the Ogden Southern Museum of Art better known as Ogden after Hours. The concert starts up at 6:00 pm with DJ Jubilee Also known as Mr. Temple. DJ Jubilee and is one of the earliest New Orleans bounce rappers to come on the scene. Jubilee helped define the genre with pumping party anthems like "Get it Ready," and "Take it to St. Thomas."....so come on down for some music, culture and fun! (remember if you get down there early - go grab a cocktail at the Circle Bar on Lee's Circle...one of the best happy hours in town!)
Want to celebrate the Saints Draft and eat some crawfish? Join Harrah's on Fulton Square this Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm for Bugs, Buds and Bands with Bruce Daigrepoint Cajun Band and celebrate!! Enjoy music, beer, and crawfish "with all the fixin's" with special deals for Harrah's Total Rewards members (the crawfish is a $1.00 a pound!!) Ernst Cafe (right across the street) is joining in the fun with drink specials and televisions galore for the football fanatics!!

There's more crawfish waiting for you at the one and only historical Mother-in-Law Lounge tonight - starting at 6:00 pm and rolling on 'til 10:00. The Funk'n Blues'n Crawfish experience continues tonight with Ernie Vincent and the Top Notes with fresh CRAWFISH by Shaggy's Boil.....this boil will be rockin'!!!

Wednesday at the Square or Under the Oaks???
Good Morning All,
Why is there sooooo much to do in this Town?? But seriously I'm not complainin'....
Two of my most favorite events are today, and I haven't figured out how to clone myself - so you decide what you want to do.
Wednesday Events
First, it's Wednesday, so that can mean only one thing....Lafayette Square and this is the big one before Jazz Fest weekend. For this week's installment of Wednesday at the Square....we have Amanda Shaw (who I love!!) plus Mark Adam Miller (who is amazing!). Things get kicked off at 5:00 and go all the way to 7:30. Be sure to check out the cool art and yummy food while you're cruising around.
Okay, to make my life super confusing it's also the Ochsner Swing in the Oaks. It's a free concert with the LPO on City Park's Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn starting up at 6:30 pm. Enjoy a spectacular evening of popular favorites from Sullivan's H.M.S Pinafore to Gershwin's Girl Crazy Overture to Sondheim's Gypsy Overture. Be sure to bring your picnics, family, and friends for a fun-filled evening! This is such a special event and it's so much fun to check out the super fancy picnics some people bring out there!
Alright, once you've solved your early evening scheduling dilemna...here's what's going on tonight!

The Iguanas are back at Chicke Wah Wah on Canal for a Wednesday night show through April 19th. The band gears up at 8:00 pm - so put on your dancing shoes and go check it out!
A little later in the evening you've got Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue record release party at the Republic (828 S. Peters). Show starts up at 9:00 pm ..check out this line-up! The event will be hosted by Kermit Ruffins with performances by Rebirth Brass Band, Free Agents Brass Band, Hot 8 Brass Band and Juvenile. Other Special Invited guests include Irvin Mayfield, James Andrews, Big Sam of Big Sam's Funky Nation, Shamarr Allen and actor Wendell Pierce. The event is open to all fans and friends of Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue. To attend, Please RSVP to meetusbackatown@gmail.com for list admission.

The event will be hosted by Kermit Ruffins with performances by Rebirth Brass Band, Free Agents Brass Band, Hot 8 Brass Band and Juvenile. Other Special Invited guests include Irvin Mayfield, James Andrews, Big Sam of Big Sam's Funky Nation, Shamarr Allen and actor Wendell Pierce. Tuesday Countdown to Jazz Fest!
Mornin' Everybody,
Okay...only three more days 'til Jazz Fest - can you believe???
Start off your Tuesday with some fun culture and go to the Ogden Museum of Southern Art with this cool event starting up at 7:00 pm....In conjunction with the Ogden's exhibition "Where They At: New Orleans Bounce and Hip-Hop in Words and Pictures," a special screening of the definitive bounce documentary Ya Heard Me? Featuring DJ Jubilee, Kilo, TTucker, Katey Red, Big Freedia, Mia X, and many more. RESERVATIONS RECOMMENDED - Museum Members get in FREE! General Admission: $10 (Contact Susan at 504-539-9616....reserved seats deadline was Friday the 16th...but call for more info to see if you can get into this fabulous event!)
Music for Tuesday
Head on down to Canal Street, because Chickie Wah Wah has the amazing sounds of Anders Osborne, John Fohl and Johnny Sansone. Show starts up at 8:00 pm...and bring your hunger they have some yummy eats!!
And if you want to hang out Uptown, spend this beautiful evening out on the porch at The Columns. Watch the streetcars go by, sip a martini and listen to the guitar styling's of John Rankin.
Need some more Anders after the Chickie show.....head on over to Le Bon Temps Roule on Magazine for another dose of Anders Osborne at 11:00 pm....there's NO COVER...and the beers are extra cold!!
And of course...if you're looking to gear up for Jazz Fest make your way to the Maple Leaf for THE REBIRTH!!! I'm sure it's going to be a packed house with Fest mode in high gear - party starts around 10:30ish, but it's worth a little hangover for tomorrow.
