Happy Healthy Tuesday with Fresh Food, Red Beans and Wine, Beer and Lots of Music!

Farmer's Market and Fresh Food!
You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market!  Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for the freshest veggies, fruits and seafood.This month the Market welcomes La Cocinita food truck to the Green Plate Special. This week choose from Market Arepas, stuffed with chile-roasted squash, kale and black bean relish, and goat cheese (add some brisket if you want!), a variety of tasty tacos, and a side of rice and beans. Finish your lunch with a watermelon-mint agua fresca and an apple-dulce de leche bread pudding. Lunch doesn’t get much tastier!

Beer!

Come on out for the Taproom Grand Opening at NOLA Brewing (3001 Tchoupitoulas) - this evening from 4:00 'til 11:00 pm. Come celebrate our taproom's grand opening! They'll have 16 beers on tap, including eight specialty beers that you can only get at the brewery (hint: Girl Stout Cookie, rum barrel aged Saison, Peach Blonde, etc). They'll be music from Magnitude at 6:00 pm and the Brass-a-holics 9:00 pm and come hungry for the food trucks with La Cocinita and Rue Chow.

Beans and Wine!

Come celebrate Red Bean Tuesday with Pearl Wine Bar (3700 Orleans). Red beans and rice will be served up every Tuesday from 6:00 to 10:00 pm (or until they are gone). Bring on the beans and there will be a couple of wine pairings on special for $6 per glass too!

Good Music Tonight!

Enjoy some fancy cocktails on the Avenue at the The Columns (3811 St. Charles Ave.) at 8:00 p.m. tonight!  Relax on this lovely Tuesday evening and enjoy the music of - John Rankin plus Paul Sanchez!

Get your self to Mid-City and to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal St.) for the lovely sounds of The Honeypots tonight at 8:00 p.m. and make sure to come hungry for a sammich!

There's some fun on Frenchmen over at d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen) with the The Treme Brass Band at 10:00 pm - there's a $5 cover for the show - but you know you don't want to miss it!

Right down the street the Spotted Cat (623 Frenchmen) has a triple header with no cover - Andy Forest at 4:00 pm, Meschiya Lake & The Little Big Horns at 6:00 pm, and top off the evening with the Shotgun Jazz Band at 10:00 pm!

Top off the evewing over at the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street...with the REBIRTH Brass Band - they come on around 10:30ish - there's a cover, but you'll be glad you paid and stayed up late!!

Weekend Fun with a Benefit, Some Seersucker, and Mentor, Forest, Veggie, India, Champagne and Mom Fest!!

The weekend is chock full of fun things to do, and don't forget to celebrate your Mom on Sunday too! Here's some fun things happening this weekend....

Friday!

Tonight come out for a very important fundraiser - Throwing Shade on Skin Cancer: A Benefit for Kara Morgan - 5:30 to 10 pm at NOLA Brewing (3301 Tchoupitoulas St.). Throwing Shade on Skin Cancer will have music, burlesque, beer and liquor (included in the cost of the ticket), silent auction, raffle, food trucks, and more! Freaksheaux To Geaux will be the burlesque troupe, and there will be music by Craig Klein, Bert Cotton, Margie Perez, Derrick Freeman, Ingrid Lucia, Paul Sanchez, Marc Stone, Soul Apostle, Chris Boone with Sol Fiya... and more! Come on out, have a great time, support an amazing person. She'd do the same for you! Tickets are $55 and well worth it for this amazing event!!!
**Community activist, neighborhood leader, and mother, Kara Morgan, was diagnosed with Stage IV Melanoma in February 2013, and has begun aggressive treatment at the renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Over and above what her medical insurance covers, Kara will incur the cost of frequent trips to Houston with extended overnight stays. These expenses, combined with the mounting out-of-pocket medical costs, will place a significant financial burden on Kara and her family.

It's time to do some Sippin' in Seersucker this evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Shops at Canal Place (333 Canal St.) - Don your best seersucker ensemble - or summer chic - for the party that kicks off the summer social season. Hosted by the Shops at Canal Place, the event benefits the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Party goers will enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres from local restaurants and luscious libations; shopping specials, entertainment with Bonerama and Luke Winslow-King, and raffles. There's even a seersucker ensemble contest!

Saturday!

Want to make an impact in the life of a New Orleans Youth? Then you don't want to miss Mentorfest 2013 the New Orleans Kids Partnership's major volunteer recruitment of the year!! It's Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Lawrence Square (corner of Napoleon and Magazine). Come find out about a range of opportunities to mentor and tutor youth across New Orleans. We are also excited to have live music with the Roots of Music, TBC Brass Band and Hot 8 Brass Band, food (crawfish) and entertainment from the 610 Stompers. Come join this major effort to support the youth of our city. Celebrate FORESTival 2013 from 11:00am - 5:00pm today at A Studio In The Woods (13401 Patterson Road)....For the third year in a row, A Studio In The Woods, will host FORESTIVAL - a celebration of art and nature. The festival showcases former artist/residents work as well as the history and happenings of this unique environment. FORESTIVAL is open to the public and offers families a chance to experience Louisiana's Wetlands set to live music, food, artistic demonstrations and more. The event is free, food and drinks are available for purchase and a $5 donation is suggested. It's India Fest from 10 am to 4 pm at the New Orleans Museum of Art (1 Collins Diboll Circle) - Explore Indian cuisine, music, and dance at India Arts Circle’s 2013 festival, which also features educational demonstrations, henna tattooing, children’s activities, and a vendor bazaar - And it's FREE!

Join Magazine Street Merchants Association for their annual Champagne Stroll on Saturday night from 5 to 9 pm. There will be complimentary Champagne from Martin Wine Cellar, Champagne cocktails, trunk shows, live music, art openings, in-store promotions and hors d'oeuvres. Sunday!

Fresh from crowd-pleasing appearances at Jazz Fest, Irma Thomas returns to celebrate Mother’s Day at the Audubon Zoo this Sunday. The music starts at 12:30 p.m. with the Washboard Chaz Blues Trio. At 2:15 there’ll be a tribute for Irma for her 30th Mother's Day performance at the Zoo!!  Don't miss the Queen of Soul and treat your Mom to this New Orleans tradition!!

All Weekend Long!

Get your inner veggie on at Veggie Fest - New Orleans Vegan Food Festival!! The fun is all weekend long Saturday 11:00 to 6:00 pm and Sunday Noon to 6:00 pm at the Healing Center (2372 St. Claude).  There's also a rocking after party at Cafe' Istanbul (in the Healing Center) which kicks up Saturday evening at 7:00 pm.  Click here for more info on the fest on the link for tickets!
