You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market! Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for the freshest veggies, fruits and seafood. This month the Market welcomes Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group to the GPS tent for March! This week, Ralph's on the Park is offering smoked duck boudin with green tomato relish, ya-ka-mien with beef brisket and bucatini pasta, and cherry tomato and pickled okra salad. For dessert don't forget to try their ginger spiced carrot cake.....yum!

"Musically Speaking:" free screening of Sparkle by Sam O'Steen tonight at the Antenna Gallery (3718 St. Claude Ave.) at 7:00 pm - Sparkle was recently remade with Whitney Houston and released in 2012, this 1976 feature film with the same name as a rags-to-riches (and, for some, rags again) story of three teenage singers in Harlem who form a girl group in the late 1950's. Starring Irene Cara, Lonette McKee, and Philip Michael Thomas, and featuring original music by Curtis Mayfield, the low-budget original has since reached cult classic status since its successful mid-1970s release.
MUSICALLY SPEAKING is a series of music-themed movie and documentary screenings, curated/hosted by DJ Soul Sister, and co-presented by Press Street, Charitable Film Network, WWOZ FM, and the N.O. African American Museum. Free admission and refreshments. Contact info@press-street.com

More fun on St. Claude Avenue! Tonight it's the Hi-Ho Songwriter Gumbo at the Hi-Ho Lounge (2239 St. Claude). Enjoy this community singer/songwriter showcase - more than an open mic, this weekly Tuesday event will provide a forum for songwriters to share their work and create community and opportunity for themselves and their peers. Each performer will have time for 3 songs and hopefully the evening will conclude with some jamming and collaboration. The show starts at 8:30 pm. Come play or just enjoy! Support you local Singer/Songwriter Scene!
There's a great musical evening on the Avenue at the The Columns (3811 St. Charles Ave.) at 8:00 p.m. tonight! Have a fancy cocktail and listen to the guitar sounds of John Rankin and Todd Duke.
Head on over to Mid-City and to Chickie Wah Wah (2828 Canal) for the bluesy, gospel and R&B sounds of Seth Walker at 8:00 pm!!
There's some fun on Frenchmen tonight too over at d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen) with the The Treme Brass Band at 10:00 pm - there's a $5 cover for the show - but you know you don't want to miss it!

Happy Tuesday w/Sunshine, Veggies, A Movie and Lots of Music!
Hooray for the sun and a beautiful Tuesday!
Farmer's Market!
You can get your day started off right with a trip to the Farmer's Market! Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for the freshest veggies, fruits and seafood. Today for the Green Plate Special Chef Lisa Barbato will be there to preview her soon to open café, Rivista. Look for it on Magazine Street in March. Until then, enjoy Lisa's themed lunches all month long! This week, Lisa is taking us on a taste adventure through Mexico this week! For a hot soup, give some Posole a try, or grab a bowl of vegan tortilla soup to go. She will also feature Yucca salad with cabbage slaw, and green chicken enchiladas. For dessert, tres leches cake is perfectly sweet and utterly delightful.....yum!

"Musically Speaking:" free screening of My First Name is Maceo by Markus Gruber tonight at the Antenna Gallery (3718 St. Claude Ave.) at 7:00 pm - MY FIRST NAME IS MACEO by Markus Gruber. One of the key sonic architects of funk, legendary saxophonist Maceo Parker first gained fame for his 1960s – early 1970s work with James Brown, whose impassioned shouts for a sax solo (“Maceo! Blow your horn!”) would make Parker the Godfather of Soul’s most famous sideman. After leaving James Brown, Parker joined Parliament-Funkadelic, becoming an integral part of the sound of hundreds of P-Funk recordings and concerts in the mid-late 1970s, under the helm of George Clinton and Bootsy Collins. Parker, who most recently has toured with Prince’s band, will be playing locallyl at Tipitina’s on February 28, two days after the screening of this documentary.

Visit the Crescent City's Farmer's Market at University Square (200 Broadway) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for the freshest veggies, fruits and seafood. Today for the Green Plate Special Chef Lisa Barbato will be there the whole month of February to preview her soon to open café, Rivista. Look for it on Magazine Street in March. Until then, enjoy Lisa's themed lunches all month long! This week, Lisa is taking us on a trip to Italy. Look for everything from minestrone and octopus & potato salad to braised pork belly with beans & kale, as well as her very own take on tiramisu, Strawberrisu!....yum!

"Musically Speaking:" free screening of Listen Up!: The Lives of Quincy Jones tonight at the Antenna Gallery (3718 St. Claude Ave.) at 7:00 pm - This 1990 documentary pays tribute to the life and work of composer, musician and producer Quincy Jones. Highlights include interviews with celebrities - from Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald to Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, and Barbra Streisand - who weigh in on Jones' widespread influence. From playing trumpet with Lionel Hampton, and then arranging for Duke Ellington and Count Basie in the '50s, to becoming the first African American record executive in America in 1964, to producing the best-selling album of all time, Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' (1982), Jones is one of the best-known and most respected men in the music industry.
